what a match, 2 warriors and legends at their best. Where is the line though? without stuff like this, Kobashi would surely be much healthier and misawa would still be with us (god bless his soul) great match, respect to these 2 legends
Its Great Match by 2 human being.....but at the end, If Misawa didnt do so many matches like this.....i am sure he is still around now and Kobashi doesnt need to have so many injuries....Its great but its too much....
i missed smackdown to watch this....and am I ever glad i did.
Wow......just....what a match, the WWE can't even compare. Misawa floored me more than usual, and Kobashi was born to do this. The Emerald Flowsion, The Burning Hammer, that Insane Tiger Suplex off the ramp....damn, Best Match I've ever seen, kudo's to both, and Rest in Peace, Mitsuharu Misawa.
this is seriously one of the sickest matches ive ever seen. unbelievable psychology, no weapons, no interference, no groin shots. epic buildup, german suplex off the ramp onto the concrete?!!!
Jesus, I don't even know why WWE is being compared to 90's Japanese wrestling. Both are good in their own rights, but those goofy japs pound the shit out of eachother. "Go watch Cena vs Punk"? That was retarded. Cena vs Punk has nothing on Japanese strong style. Go Watch 90's all-japan and new japan, and then you tell me cena vs punk was better. Much respect for Japanese. Nothing better in my opinion.
@jnor3 True. Cena v Punk is one of those instant classics in the WWE world, but really there's nothing comparable. I appreciate WWE... though I basically fast-forward through a lot of the junk nowadays. But, it's ridiculous to compare to the Japanese style, especially Misawa. The guy was in a league of his own.
OK let's saddle this. The WWE in-ring style is diffrent and a lot softer then japan because of their schedule. If the WWE went crazy in the ring like these japs, injuries and carrer endings would come in quantities.
This is skilled choreography. I am not knocking it. It is an art form in the gymnastic moves they coordinate together. Of course, we all know this is not real fighting like you would see in an MMA fight. I enjoy watching their skill.
Misawa is FUCKING INSANE!!! That guy is like the craziness of Jeff Hardy, the power of Brock Lesnar and the talent of Ric Flair all rolled up into one awesome Japanese body.
@Wurzelknecht not sure what i expected to be honest. im not to much of a fan of ROH and i can't watch TNA. i grew up on WWE style in the 80's and 90's, so thats what i'm used t,o but i really don't watch that much either anymore. maybe i would have liked more selling but in the end it was just not my cup of tea. also, im sure having the commentary in Japanese and not knowing the guy's moves took away from it for me as the only other Kobashi match i have seen was with Joe which i liked
@Espo354 do you have a specific taste in wrestling though? Lucha, Puroresu, British, Technical, American, Southern, there are many different styles, which does seem to reflect what they like or not. Im a fan of many styles, and by watching many videos and reading comments, i've found alot of fans of this style of wrestling are straight up WWE/TNA haters, ROH goes both ways for them, they love and hate it.
@Espo354 It's a fight between two heavyweights who are known for brutal high impact moves. What did you expect? Or two rephrase the question: what would've made the match better in your opinion? Just curious.
He probably expected a high flying spot fest that made no sense whatsoever and had no storytelling or ring psychology. Basically what would be seen in TNA.
@HowTingz I have to admit I like spotfests or really fast-paced matches were psychology is dropped in favor of the action. But you're right. There are simply too many so-called wrestling fans out there who aren't able to appreciate the art of in-ring-storytelling anymore. Just as more and more Wrestlers (at least in the US mainstream) can't understand the necessity to learn it. Recently saw a young Cena training vid where he couldn't grasp the notion that a russian legsweep involves a legsweep
True lol but what I like about John Cena is that he at least tries to learn to do moves properly. A guy who cares so much that he'd stick with it and force himself to do better in training is hard to find now. Have you seen some of the tryout tapes sent out to businesses now? Absolutely no idea what they're doing.
I love to see high flying spots when the time calls for it (BJW or any cool Gimmick Match). But when I'm seeing 5 450 Splashes in one match I turn away from the circus.
@HowTingz His willingness to learn is something I admire about Cena despite how little I think of him as a wrestler. Most of the heat he gets is because how he is booked anyway. The way he is "protected" is something that I never liked. Not even back in the day with Hogan or later Rock/Austin. Making a top star look strong and hard to beat is one thing, but making them look like unbeatable Supermen just kills all the drama for me and makes the heels look not the least bit intimidating.
@HowTingz And yeah those guys who think they're good wrestlers because they can do a lot of high risk moves...that's Teddy Hart-mentality which I as a wrestling fan find insulting to the business. Sure there are high flyers whose main offence (because of smaller stature) are those kind of moves. But there's a difference between making it look like compensating Height/strenght through speed/highflying and the need to do as many flips as possible to show off.
Once again I completely agree with you. Gosh it is so hard to find people on youtube with intelligence anymore.
I have been watching wrestling ever since I was 2 years old and honestly I don't see it as a sport, I see it as a play/act.
I love it and it kills me to see guys like Teddy Hart just completely shit on the desire to book some credibility into matches. AND HE'S A HART WTF!!!!!!!
Thankfully I have my DVDs and my Laptop (and my FPR Game) so WRESTLING MATTERS in my house.
As for John Cena I'll admit I love his work ethic and it's something I admire in guys like AJ Styles too because those guys are young and care about the business. WWE has a different style of wrestling that cries for shorter matches with limited movesets to draw in the little kids, then blow ppl away every now and then with great matches. But they focus too much on stars and money and too little on match quality and newer talents.
really dont want a "dump all over antsman88" here, but which one is kenta kobashi? the one in the green tights? please forgive my ignorance, pretty new to puro.
@antsman88 Kenta Kobashi is the man in the black trunks mate. Mitsuharu Misawa has always worn green, hence his finisher's name, Emerald Frosion, Flowsion, Erosion ect.
The best match of all time. These two were born to wrestle each other. The endurance level is off the page. They must have felt like they were dying when this was over.
A MASTERPIECE! I give it eleven stars!! The greatest match I've seen between Misawa and Kobashi. Then again, I always prefer Ocean King style matches to King's Road. In my opinion, they have superior storyline threads running through them and better transitional phases. I find a lot of the AJPW classics, and I'm not saying their bad matches, I admire the effort involved and they were cutting edge in their era, meander until hitting the home straight.
And one other thing, a 5-star match doesn't mean kicking out of 10 finishers, it means telling a story of power, deceit, failure, persistence, resiliency, redemption, succes, defeat!
Now this is how wrestling should be done in order to look "real", in order to feel respect for the sport and the competitors, in order to say- "DAMN"!!!
burning hammer FTW. This match will always be better than any match at Wrestlemania, or the January 4th Dome Show. Sorry Vince there is no way you can come up with a match that is this intense, edge of your seat, makes the audience tired match likes this. Its impossible. I couldn't think of another 5 star match that could remotely come anywhere close to this.
These are the matches I live for. Each combatant is exhausted to the brink of unconsciousness, yet, they keep rising to feet, and battling one another like gladiators until their opponent is put down for the count. A terrific match.
hell yes these two man are the definition of what make wrestling the sport of kings as long as njpw and noah are still around then it will remain so rip sensei misawa
i think the last WRESTLING match in u.s. wrestling was austin vs rock at wm 17, the rest has been diffuse dalliance. vince had done much for wrestling u cant deny that if u want to say the whole truth, but he is also destroying it year for year. i really have to say it: its also the american crowd that destroys the art of wrestling, the uneducated, disrespectful and ignorant crowd that makes any higher levels of professional wrestling impossible
@clockworkdroog84 Even in WWE, the Benoit match at WM 20, Benoit vs. Angle at RR 03 were better. And no, that was about as good as 60 minutes gets (aside from Toyota/Inoue, maybe).
@TheCrimsonKing92 I just didn't find Punk vs Joe that good. Maybe its also because I already knew the outcome and wasn't watching it when it happened. Just saw it last year. Agree on those Benoit matches. Also Jericho vs Benoit ladder match RR01 and HBK vs Jericho WM19 are up there too.
to stereotype all american crowds as ignorant is ignorant in itself. There are individuals in that crowd. Vince is just adapting to the times, i dont think rock vs austin was the last WRESTLING match
@vereistesHaff I'm inclined to agree but ROH honestly does put on WRESTLING matches. I'm not gonna deny what you said because believe me I agree. But Ring of Honor wrestlers work their butts off to bring wrestling back to the US.
@vereistesHaff You don't have to say because it's not true. You know, we aren't all like that. That's like me calling all Germans Nazis. You aren't all Nazis right?
@vereistesHaff benoit/angle at royal rumble 2002 is up there too. but ill give it to them, most recently cm punk vs cena (i bet punk called most of the match). it was definitely an old school style, the first 10-20 minutes was slow as hell, and slowly built up to the epic conclusion. other than that, most of it is garbage
@vereistesHaff Yes Austin vs Rock wm17 I was at a sports bar and the place was pack and people were hanging on to each pinfall that was the last time wrestling was exciting then Austin turned bad guy at the end of the match and year after year wrestling has become stale.
@Siracul Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 2000 was earlier than Rock vs Austin, wasnt it? After all i have to say that i also critizise Germany which doesnt mean that i critizise all Germans. Like this: there are many American wrestling fans as well who know about the ignorance i talked about. They are the ones who decide on the future of wrestling and its attraction. So it was no anti-US-comment. It was pro-US, but critics. Sorry for my english language.
@vereistesHaff I understand what you're saying but you made the simple mistake of generalizing, also don't blame the people, blame Vince, WWE's fanbase is mostly made of young children, we all know how easily children can be tricked, and that's the whole PG game, more money, easier product
There are a handful of great matches even after the Benoit Angle Summerslam match
WWE's style is completely different than Japan's. WWE is focused far more on psychology and playing it safe in the ring. Obviously Puro is stiff as hell and more about intensity in the ring.
They certainly can pull a great match if they want to.
Do you mean Wrestlemania 17? Because 2000 was Jericho/Angle/Benoit which should've been great but was too short. Also Benoit vs. Angle Royal Rumble 2003 is one of my favorite WWE matches of all-time. Those three and Eddie single-handedly kept me moderately interested in WWE through my high school years.
wow......that match just completely changed my perspective of what a pro wrestling match can be. no words are inadequate to describe what i just watched. ive been into NOAH and Japanese style of pro wrestling for a little over a year now and i know realize....i knew nothing. thanks are not enough for this post......
misawa thank you so very much for your bravery and your eagerness to always put on a great wrestling match for all you fans around the world . r.i.p champion.
if you ask me, Even if these two only went for 20 minutes, they would have still won match of the year all over the globe. This match is nothing short of stellar And I'm glad to have seen it!
I don't understand how japs can take bumps on their heads like this and not hurt their neck. Every suplex is brutal.

@vereistesHaff watch some kurt angle or bryan danielson man. that might give u some hope lol!

Austin/Rock at Mania 17 was the last wrestling match in WWE? Give me a break. I can name a ton that were "wrestling" matches since then.
AmericanNohbuddy 9 months ago
@AmericanNohbuddy ikr? wtf lol
giannaluva65 9 months ago
@vereistesHaff
to stereotype all american crowds as ignorant is ignorant in itself. There are individuals in that crowd. Vince is just adapting to the times, i dont think rock vs austin was the last WRESTLING match
giannaluva65 9 months ago
@vereistesHaff I'm inclined to agree but ROH honestly does put on WRESTLING matches. I'm not gonna deny what you said because believe me I agree. But Ring of Honor wrestlers work their butts off to bring wrestling back to the US.

@vereistesHaff you never watched RHO?

@vereistesHaff You don't have to say because it's not true. You know, we aren't all like that. That's like me calling all Germans Nazis. You aren't all Nazis right?

@MyAnonymousTroll right.

@vereistesHaff benoit/angle at royal rumble 2002 is up there too. but ill give it to them, most recently cm punk vs cena (i bet punk called most of the match). it was definitely an old school style, the first 10-20 minutes was slow as hell, and slowly built up to the epic conclusion. other than that, most of it is garbage
mmabuff101 7 months ago
@vereistesHaff Yes Austin vs Rock wm17 I was at a sports bar and the place was pack and people were hanging on to each pinfall that was the last time wrestling was exciting then Austin turned bad guy at the end of the match and year after year wrestling has become stale.
J5MARLON 7 months ago
@vereistesHaff So Chris Benoit Vs. Kurt Angle at SummerSlam 2003 was not wrestling ?
And Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 2000 was not wrestling ?
The disrespectful, uneducated, ignorant crowd says hi by the way =)
Siracul 7 months ago 24
@Siracul Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 2000 was earlier than Rock vs Austin, wasnt it? After all i have to say that i also critizise Germany which doesnt mean that i critizise all Germans. Like this: there are many American wrestling fans as well who know about the ignorance i talked about. They are the ones who decide on the future of wrestling and its attraction. So it was no anti-US-comment. It was pro-US, but critics. Sorry for my english language.
vereistesHaff 7 months ago
@vereistesHaff I understand what you're saying but you made the simple mistake of generalizing, also don't blame the people, blame Vince, WWE's fanbase is mostly made of young children, we all know how easily children can be tricked, and that's the whole PG game, more money, easier product
There are a handful of great matches even after the Benoit Angle Summerslam match
Benoit Vs. MVP WrestleMania
HBK Vs. Ric Flair
WWE delivers just not as much as it used to.
Siracul 7 months ago
@vereistesHaff
WWE's style is completely different than Japan's. WWE is focused far more on psychology and playing it safe in the ring. Obviously Puro is stiff as hell and more about intensity in the ring.
They certainly can pull a great match if they want to.
AmericanNohbuddy 7 months ago 2
@Siracul
Do you mean Wrestlemania 17? Because 2000 was Jericho/Angle/Benoit which should've been great but was too short. Also Benoit vs. Angle Royal Rumble 2003 is one of my favorite WWE matches of all-time. Those three and Eddie single-handedly kept me moderately interested in WWE through my high school years.
darreneugenerichards 5 months ago
@Siracul Chris Benoit did not wrestle Kurt Angle at SummerSlam 2003. And their match at WrestleMania 2000 was a triangle match with Jericho.
smr182 3 months ago
@Siracul, It Jericho vs Benoit vs Angle at WrestleMania 16 btw...lol

@Siracul american wrestling is a joke... common its childish...

@vereistesHaff i think that CM Punk vs John Cena at Money In The Bank was also a WRESTLING match.
kftherasmus17 7 months ago
@vereistesHaff i think the undertaker vs shawn michaels at wm25 and 26 were also pretty good wrestling matches
