  • la mejor cancion y el mejor cantante de esta pelicula

  • I don't care what color the man is, he's GREAT.

I can see why they had him play the part he deserves the part.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Scotarg1973, that's a little racist

  • Judas was black in real life but the point is that Jesus forgave him. Ultimately, the film demonstrates beautifully that even though judas is black he is welcome in the kingdom of heaven. It's all about forgiveness. Also, Judas betrayed him so that makes it even more poignant! Also, subtle but nicely done, Judas wearing white thus implying that he has been changed from an evil black man to a good man.

  • I am not the most religious person, but over the years it seems to me that Judas loved Jesus the most. I find that strange but thats how it seems to me.

  • Ахренительно!!!

  • Jesus was a real person! But was he the Christ is debatable!

  • Actually, according to many beliefs (including mine) Judas was the one Jesus trusted most and was closest to (other than Magdalena) So Jesus sent Judas to "sell him out" so he could carry out his destiny. This is why Judas threw the coins away afterward.

  • @SuperDecision Interesting although I always though he tossed the coins back out of remorse. Along with your theory how would you explain his motives for suicide ?

  • @WRI2012 Have you ever been responsible for the death of someone you love, few people have. To me his suicide proves that he truly loved Jesus, and could only have done what he did out of that love. Afterwards, he couldn't bear it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have cared. The only other possibilities are, he was greedy or resentful. In either of those two cases, he would have kept the coins and skipped town. Maybe with a twinge of guilt now and then, but nothing more.

  • jesus: an imaginary character made up to scare children into going to bed earlier.

  • Oooh, you're edgy. Hey guys, this guy is edgy. Real freethinker.

  • @tigging No, I am (including historians) sure Jesus was a real person! Now, weather he was the Christ is debatable in religious studies!

  • i loved this movie !!! i saw it 39 years ago as child ... loved it then & still love it !!!

  • @trifulquita15

So you've never heard of sister act?

  • "god' myth! the invention of man to cope with the harsh realities of everyday life and to cope with ones own personal mortality its called a denial of fatalism there was no first couple in paradise no fall no tower of babel no universial flood this is all mythology!

  • @LVCrocky Well, tell us then, what came first the chicken or the egg?

  • @WRI2012 ya can't have a beach without water. They call that a desert!

  • Anyway, the Evil (personal entity or not) is always associated with the black colour, from ancient times...

  • The only and last christian musical

  • Haha the Devil is black of course...bah is only a matter of representation, He hasnt shape

  • @calderona100 Why do people always think he is the devil? he is Judas Iscariot's spirit coming to Jesus asking him who he really is..

  • @TheTitanic4 Actually Judas isnot the Devil , but the devilish spirit resides into him as a spiritual personal entity, I mean a diabolic possesion as learned in Demonology

  • i love this musicaaaaaaaaaalllllll

  • Saw the play at the Muny outdoor theater in St. Louis in 95 and I think Ted Neeley did the role of Jesus. That or Carl was Judas. A bit fuzzy now.

  • Out standing Effort to date 2012 Carl Anderson is still the best May Carl R.I.P

  • LLLoyDD wEBBBBBBeR rulllesss

  • NO OTHER VERSION COMPARES TO THIS.

  • Do you know why Judas is black? The guy walked in, auditioned, and got the part. That's why he's Black.

  • @Bangurdead25 bad mouths said also that his parents were black

  • as Loobz73 says, stop. please. don't miss the message.

  • It doesnt matter about why Judas is black, feck sake, Ted Neeley (Jesus) is white. I dont even think there are any Jewish singers in this film. Carl Anderson is an amazing singer and no one else could sing his songs in this film better. Why do people have to analyze things. Just watch the film, listen to the music and enjoy.

  • Show me 1 white guy that mocks Tim Tebo and I"LL show you 10 blacks that do...

  • jews kill your jesus

  • Who cares if he is black it matters if he can do good acting I seen this since i was 4 and its still good music

  • Why Judas is black in the movie?

  • @klaudjow04 cuz no whiteass could sing and act like Carl Anderson did.

  • @klaudjow04 because Carl Anderson is a badass, and so was Ben Vereen. A better question is why is Jesus always played by a white guy in this show?

  • @klaudjow04 Some of the other apostles are African American too. They wanted a diverse cast and that's great.

  • Jesus Christ Superstar - Because religion is fucking dope.

  • @Godisfinger What is your basement to say this? Why the movie likes you, but not the religion? Perhaps only the face , the aggreable skin but the message is the same, hidden to mundane eyes

  • I have ALWAYS loved this "rock opera"!

  • i have never seen the film but my son(who goes to catholic school) has and it is love of this song that has brought me here.never has religion been so funky!

  • this was a great play and had many wonderful songs in it...

  • Public Relations

  • PR is Public Relations

  • so sad to say that justine biever have million viewers than this vedio.. :(

  • London vinyl album was major.

  • Believe it or not, Sister Mary Joseph of high school parochial socialism class played the original vinyl album for us back in 1973, and she was the last remaining strict nuns from the disciplinary old school. That alone left me shell shocked, of all people. But I still got the album myself, and still have it to this day. Got the movie on DVD last year. Thank god they kept Yvonne.

  • this is my childhood i loved this version the best go Carl Anderson

  • Fabulous song! One of the best musicals ever!!

  • Truth, can only be told to, who is willing to listen and to understand.

But, just like in the matrix, once you know, there's no turning back.

    for you will be awakened.

  • I have to admit, people in the 70's knew Rock and Roll.

  • @BillyJim1970 i don't what you're raving about or to whom, but it's a little negative & unpleasant & tempting out the rest of us to be too! (:D got anything NICE to say?

  • a great movie with awesome songs

  • @pornbunny5 unlike your repulsive name

  • As A Christian I'm sorry to say that I spend Sundays in the pub rather than in church but everytime I hear this it gives me goosebumps. Andrew and Tim have been touched by God, I hope I have too in some way.

  • @weecassie1 if you are talking to your pub buddies about Him, maybe that's where God is using you. (but if it makes you feel sorry, lol, maybe us fellow believers will pray you get it all straightened out, & you pray for me too, 'k? :)

  • He probably could move a mountain, he was just given the oppertunity to have it done for him (SAW) and he said No, Believers might come from that town! Most of the people of the town to be squeezed between two mountains, eventually became SINCERE BELIEVERS in the Creator of Existence!!!!!!!

  • Jesus Christ is the only superstar in the all world

  • glee aint got nothing on this...they dont make them like they used too..

  • great

  • There's no question of this film having been labelled as blaphemous. I remember when the film was first launched in Catholic countries (1971?) in Europe it was allowed to be circuited in all cinema halls as it had been vetted as 'positively oriented' by the Vatican authorities in Rome. At the time, censorship in Catholic countries was really tight and influential, so no question of it having been banned or labelled as blasphemous.

  • Comment removed

  • @Toottycat Thankfully they showed us this film in Catholic school. :)

  • JESUCRISTO, el hombre más grande en la historia de la humanidad.

  • jesus here is superserious in Godspell Jesus is portrayed as a clown -- both not jesus but what we think jesus may have been like writing.com eliasstone

  • Everytime I watch this movie, I sing it from beginning to end,....LoL (annoying movie watcher) LOVE It!

  • Three days He was up there. 72 hours of misery... as much as the human body could take. Ask yourself if you believe Jesus existed. If you do believe He existed, ask yourself what you believe He did, and who He really was.

  • don't ya get me wrong, man...DON'T YA GET ME WRONG!

  • I actually love the bassline to this xD its so... funky!

  • I grew up listening to this....memorized much of it. It was the music of the very early years of my childhood. So brilliant. We are allowed to interpret Him and His life any way we like. This is just one way to know Him. If it entertains us, makes us happy and joyous, keeps us mindful of Him, brings us closer to Him...I believe He would be happy. I believe Christ to be infinitely more kind, compassionate, forgiving, and tolerant than we are to each other. I find this beauty. Not blasphemy.

  • Now if church was like this they might get me out of bed on a Sunday LOL

  • @stevoleanne

because of the songs or the girls?

    if u ask me BOTH!

  • @AwOme3s Both

  • @stevoleanne me too! lol

  • @stevoleanne Or if movies were still like this they might get me into a theatre on Sunday.

  • carly's angels.... get it

  • When I die I totally want wings made of white fringe.

  • @mokster5 and a star with a chain hanging from it that I can ride down to the top of a random amphitheater

  • @lgmmrm Obviously! Not to mention awesome backup dancers. A gloomy Jesus can stay out of the picture though.

  • Anyone notice that they go slightly flat at the part with the choir of women? It doesn't bother me much, I just noticed it.

  • @CrimeAndMistermeanor I think its becuase they dont either have enough women or women with a powerful enough voice singing it :/ Tis good though :)

  • I just really love this movie and all the music!!!

  • anderson kills every song in this great movie.

  • GRooviest angels ive ever seen. xD

  • And of course, this is Judas getting the last laugh. But Jesus is the real hero of this! He rose from the dead 3 days later; Judas....? Hell, no!

  • Ted Neeley was fuckin HOT! ;-)

  • the only thing about this film i liked was how immensly fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine the actor who played jesus was DAMN

  • black disco judas :)

  • 2:11 wow

  • "Could Mohammad move a mountain, or was that just PR?"

  • @DickieAnginson what does the PR mean?

  • by the look of those angels i nave to ask,Heavens got peeler bars?

  • Just have to say it...Judas has a point.

  • QUE MARAVILLA ¡¡¡¡¡¡.....MY LORD

  • cool mannn!!!

  • If one reads the Gospel of Judas, whose discovery was just made public several years ago, there is more than a suggestion that God was not the only one who knew "the plan". Jesus and Judas, as Jesus' right-hand-man, knew all along what had to be done to fulfill the prophesies. Nothing happens without reason or without design.

  • @98Leolover

The Gospel of Judas is badly fragmented and written at least two centuries after the fact. I wouldn't put much stock in it. Though I think Tim Rice's interpretation is nonetheless brilliant.

  • @LTF6161

You say that as though the other gospels were any better. The four canonical pieces of rubbish were all written well into the Second Century. We don't have a historical account of the life of Yeshua of Galilee--nothing close. Get over it.

  • @Anomalous59

I don't know where you get your information. Almost all Biblical scholars, including the more secular ones like Elaine Pagels, Bart Ehrman, etc., put all the Gospels 70-100 AD. Plus Paul's letters, although they include little about the life of Jesus, do make concrete references to him and were written decades earlier. Furthermore, I have nothing to "get over". I am not particularly religious and most Christians would probably not consider me Christian but secular.

  • @Anomalous59 Blasphemy ftw

  • My favorite part of the movie.... I agree with ravenblackwings comment - this movie made me think differently about Judas...

  • Chuckles123thefish, i quite like that they portrayed Judas in a way that creates pathos for him. At the end of the day, Judas was a man, just like any other, yet the history books make him out to be some kind of unnatural being, almost akin to the devil, for betraying Jesus. Think about what Judas says, 'I'll never know why you chose me' if God created everything, then he knew that Judas was going to betray Jesus. Perhaps Judas was just the puppet.

  • 2;58! Carl Anderson was such an extraodinary gifted singer & perfomer..& so is Ted Neely. So cool that they garnered so much acclaim from the film, that until Carl passed, both toured the live stage revival, which I saw & was tremendous, all the people who love the film version came to know Ted & Carl for just making this show all their own & so memorable.

  • Seen this a million times, in the theater, on TV, bought the soundtrack album, CD. program,! I just love this, more so the film version than the stage show..mostly due to the amazing artistry of Texan TedNeely, the late, great dearly missed Carl Anderson, Yvonne Elliman, Norman Jewison's brilliant direction, & some of the phunkiest dancing & set, & lighting in the title song, ever! When Carl Anderson outstretched his arms with those 70's fringes..surrounded by his phunkalicious dancers., bliss

  • this is only complete with pilot's rant at him. pilot was the most forgiving, personable and understanding person in the play.

  • Jesus Christ superstar, looks like a women and he wears a bra!

  • This part of the movie always gives me goosebumps because Jesus did transform from the beaten and bloodied man to a ressurected being who took his blood sacrifice to his Father in the heavens. My only criticism of the rock opera is that Judas is made a victim of God. He was actually a dishonest man who betrayed Jesus, and so his infamy is due to his own selfish behavior. i love this actor who plays Judas because he has a beautiful voice, but his portrayal is due to the writers of the opera.

  • i dvr'd the whole movie

  • If I was God then this song kicks it, so does the rest of the movie to boot. So glad some of the humans can be understanding without the need for worship this and that crap!

Don't pray to me, live it out in a good way and help thy neighbour, as it should be xxx

  • Carl Anderson! Good God!

  • Jesus Christ thank you

  • My Mom found the Lord through this movie. Love it

  • This is a great movie, some are destined to help people so do not abuse, take care of each other and yourselves, Tammy Mast, Your Royal Countess, Savior Healer

  • When this came out, christians were OuTrAgEd that people DARE make a "mockery" of the story of jesus. A "musical" of the story of jesus? They were fuming.

It's amusing how perception changes over time. Now it's seen as a sort of charming "retro" rendition.

The Passion of the Christ was a far worse movie, but christians flocked to it and gave great, weepy reviews on the news.

it's amusing to see christians are no more enlightened than anyone else ;)

  • @xxartisticxx Very good observation, I never thought about it but very insightful.

  • Jesus rocks...

  • oh my gosh, in my last post, i put " we would kill the guy" but I really ment "wouldn't"! Sorry. I type fast...

  • Awwwwwwww... the bit at the start makes me feel really sad and guilty even though I wasn't there. He just looks so innocent in his white robe, like two little puppies cuddling eachother. And I really don't know why! But it really makes ya think. Jesus would have been better off today because we would kill the poor guy... we would just check him in to the loony bin (Mental hospital) for a couple of months!!!

  • Who is this that suffers for not just a few in the world but all the world? Who is this that Loves not just part of the world but the entire world. Can it be that we who cannot see the Truth but are blinded to the Truth in our own ignorance. A life was given for not just one person, but everyone. In a place where admission is free and eternal life is your reward. Have Love, Compassion and Forgiveness for one another always! Peace be with you all

  • So awesome!

  • I want one of those white "Vegas Elvis" fringe outfits like Judas wears. This number never gets old, the dancing is SO 70's Soul Train and Anderson's vocals are the best rendition of this song ever. Classic.

  • JESUS is my superstar..........

  • jiMMY dIVINE AND THE DOORS+++

  • WEIRD.

  • Uma das maiores obras alguma vez realizadas.

  • Album jacket credits one Steven Vaughan with guitar. Hmmm

  • Tim Rice (who wrote the lyrics) was quoted as saying "It happens that we don't see Christ as God but simply the right man at the right time at the right place."

Me thinks a lot of people are missing the point of what this movie was actually saying. There is a reason they don't show him performing miracles in this film. What you are seeing is everyone around him projecting things upon him.

This movie was condemned and picketed for being blasphemous. The irony is incredible lol

  • @thechurchofdave, very good analysis. worth thinking about.

  • This is a tough song/scene to interpret. Judas looks like an angel and comes down from a star, but remains angry and critical and his girls come out of a seeming cave filled with fire, hellish image.

So is Judas in heaven or hell in this song? Why does this song seem mocking?

The way I look at it is just a big showy finale- broadway style. Also meant to appeal to the acid type generation.

I don't think it adds much or seems to have much bearing on the story itself.

  • It is also possible that this is Christ's last temptation on the cross - a vision of "what he could have been" in a world of mass communication and so forth, like when Satan showed him all the kingdoms of the earth and said "All this I will give to you if you will bown down and worship me".

  • @ambariel Judas is the audience. He is the real star of this film. He is simply asking the same questions mankind asks. Posing the very simple question, "Why would the son of god chose this location, at this time in history, to say something that would have no chance to make it out to most of the rest of the world for well over a thousand years. Hence "No mass communication"

  • I love the music. I saw this when it was traveling around before it went to Broadway. It was the first introduction to Andrew Lloyd Webber for me and I've been in love with his music and shows ever since.

  • I'm starting to get annoyed by their white costumes..

  • jesús live superstar great picture great songs classic JESUS LIVE FOREVER

  • @judoshawa I TOTALY AGREE

  • A classic!!!

  • 40 years on (nearly)..and ageless.....great movie...great songs..great performances...luv it..it rocks!!!!:-)

  • I saw Ian Gillian sing a portion of this on a show with Deep Purple back in the 80's, so cool and so unexpected when the band did it perfectly

  • This seems so much more realistic and sounds better than the 2000 version

  • Carl Anderson was so intense when he did this! Superb!

  • Awesome choreography...I want to do this show again!!!

  • i never understood the end of this, though its very good performance and all, it makes no sense in the story...i view it as simply the creater of the rock opera, asking, through judas, "were you who you said you were jesus?" in other words, "were you real or a joke?".. not a question i need to ask, but regardless, good performance

  • @longfootbuddy well it makes plenty of sense coming from judas, after betraying jesus he kinda reconsiders whether jesus was the real deal, and also illustrated a point of view of many civillians at the time

  • this version is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY better than the 2000 version. i like the way judas is depictedin this version better, as a conflicted man who struggles with his choices instead of a heartless cruel monster

  • @JRYStudios1 i think judas was an evil and confused man that realized his error in the end...much like most people in the world

  • @JRYStudios1

Oh, I don't that the other one in the 2000 version wasn't such a "heartless cruel monster" as all that. The moments when they look into each other's eyes: One does see a conflicted man who struggles with his choices.

  • I love the song, i just hate how it comes to an end so fast :/

  • amazing musical :')

  • @ByeByeRocky yes i done this one as a kid one time and it was the funnest show ever

  • Be Love!!!!

  • i chose the Christ Door!!! lol

  • ExcELLeNT!! many thanksssssss

  • I think the Oriiginal LP is and always will be better sung than the movie version.

  • I saw this movie 14 times when it first came out, I was about 13

ad another dozen times later in life I am 50 now, know every word

probably the best opera rock ever written, saw it Live with the late Carl Anderson

and Ted Nesley in Austin, TX Fantastic !!!

  • U got to love the lyrics...

Buddha, was he where it's at? Is he where you are?

Could Mohammed move a mountain, or was that just PR?

  • Jesus wiped the floor with those liars lol

  • nein..........tut ihm nicht weh..............

  • To sherylinturngek: I hear what you're saying but this is a musical, it's art. This was a great movie and I've loved it since it first came out. It's not the exact story of Jesus (and yes, I'm a believer) but an intrepetation of the writers aka the artists who created this.
