The family is not necessarily scarred for life. If you look around, many families grow with this because of the honesty and sharing involved. If you understand the issue, you would know that family could be somewhat aware of what is going on anyway. Ultimately it is a personal decision and a transsexual individual does not have to sacrifice their emotional well being for their family. All can learn to adjust, grow, and learn to be understanding.
