  • REPEAT and how! Discovered this on 24 Hour Party People OST, too bad I was a bit too young at the time when this came out to be clubbing . So this is acid house then eh, I'm liking it.

  • TAKES. ME. BACK. Acccciieeeeeeeeeed!!!!!

  • jese reminds me when i was a kid this, where;s the time gone!!

  • Blow your house down

  • @FunkySheep88

    D thanks for the response

probably the only thing i will have over you. i cant help when i was born!! with age comes wisdom, but id trade my wisdom, just to do the hac again in that period

    Have a good life

  • If only this music was current in 2011.

  • @Eoinposse Impossible, we'd need to revert to hardware production and sequencing and toss the computer out the window.

  • i nearly wore out the stylus playing this tune, still sounds amazing!!!!!

  • @WhyYouJelly Yeah sankeys has had a decline back when I was 19 it was immense i went to see wolfgang gartner and it was full of the wrong people we will never have the hacienda but its about time we have the hacienda for our generation Sankeys is good still rated #1 club in the world and the empty warehouse is very much like the haciendas warehouse appeal although sankeys seems a lot darker and grimey I do wish I went and like I said its about time Manchester had a hacienda for us

  • I went to see wolfgang this year lol just read that and it just makes me sound like im contradicting myself haha

  • good old times :)

  • @mroldraver Im thinking theyre not on drugs :D im only 23 never had the chance to go to hacienda but this is a tuuuuune :) love it sankeys is my hacienda but it will never be it so wish they would reopen a hacienda event or night whatever and get these back and get happy mondays stone roses inspiral carpets and new order back for one night!! what id pay for that!!

  • @FunkySheep88 I'm 19 not a fan of sankeys as it gets full of muppets on the weekends but I suppose that it's the closest you're gonna get to the hacienda. There are a few places in the Gay village that come close to what people describe it as too. Every 30-something year old goes on about how good the hacienda was and we never got to experience it. Oh well!

  • i'm 50 and it still takes be back to those crazy nights at the HACIENDA in 1989

    TUUUUNNNNNNEEEEE

5 dislikes- are you on drugs!!

  • 42 and still get a buzz of this it is one of my happy place songs along with orbital chime

  • ERR MOM.....I'M IN THAT BEST FUCKIN PART OF YOUTUBE AGAIN....

  • abd yes its a Roland TB-303...wicked sound

  • 1/3 of 808 state until they ripped him off

  • Is he using a TB-303?

  • @piper4seeformerly

Yes he is. Its the higher toned sequence.

  • @piper4seeformerly Gerald was using a Roland MS-202 at the time. because he could not aford a TB-303..or could not find one..

The Ms-202 has similar possibilities as a TB-303 and more... ;-)

    Short..its much more versatile....

  • @piper4seeformerly Sorry its a Roland MC-202...sorry for the misspelling. :-)

  • @pommol very interesting,,thanks!

  • saw him 1990 in Roskilde and will never forget :)

  • one of the most important and defining tunes of a generation

  • Did you know that Gerald was one-third of 808 State?

  • @Eoinposse yup, and...sadly....eastern bloc has now moved from Oldham Street. End of an era :(

  • Banger !

  • XFM, Rick Shaw brought me here.

  • to think those of us who remember this being released r all prob pushing 40 now! what a pile of crap! the body might be a little less athletic but the mind is always voodoo ray!!!!!!!!!!!

  • roller disco!!!!!

  • And acid exploded to the world!!

  • FIRST track of the acid house scene!!! .... That was any good anyway xxx

  • @iowdave talk shit. d-mob, we call it acieed.

  • Oh shit - what a munter of a chick (if it is one).

  • Classic beat, love the laugh at the end ...

  • GTA SA ALL DAY!

  • the bell, in king's cross london, 1988!

  • Before Raves, there were Warehouse Party's. And THIS in my humble scattered opinion, would one of THE anthems. Respect from Melbourne, Oz.

  • Oh eye takes you back !

  • proper trippy acid house track purple omms boss.

  • So what ever happend to the half black chick in the video?

  • @Crisfromcal She turned half white.

  • (: ACID :)

  • roland 303 lover

  • My fave tune from back in those days. Still sounds fresh.

  • Way back in the day. I now have my teenagers listen to this while in the car.

  • Not forgetting Maya Jane Coles

  • @00twanga00 I don't entirely agree. Vinyl was cool and acid house was cool, and raves were cool. But there are alot of good acts today like seth troxler, lee foss, jamie jones art department, maceo plex etc who are realising some songs exclusively on vinyl and experimenting with music. and also the more minimal and techno side like Sven vat and cocoon that are making sick music. But I do agree that a lot has changed, it's a little too serious now. Love this song though

  • loved this is gta san andreas

  • played @ the pier for me 4 weeks after the release went down well n really down to earth , gud works respec

  • best old skool ever fact

  • We are going to be the best fuckin pensioners ever. Cant wait till i see all u cunts in the same retirement home as me still rockin out to this. Keep smiling like its 1991 : )

  • I got 6 years on yers both! 45 Classic tune! Still ravin on but take the kids with us now! It all began here, we all shed our provisional ways and styles and danced together as one. Children of the revolution all!

  • Yep, I'm 39 too. Used to love this. Ground breaking

  • big 4.0 here and will always love this and the era!!!!!

  • Awesome tune still sounds timeless,

  • Guy called Gerald, Franky Knuckles, 808 State, Inner City, Orbital, New Order. Fuken proper this lot is.

  • Comment removed

  • great tune this i remember this over 20 yrs ago mad innit

  • aint heard this for 20 years great tune luv it madchester all the way!!

  • 20 years young and this is one of my faves!!!!! blap blap makes me bop bop like proper loads mate!

  • This tune somehow finds an incredible space between being fun & stupid, but yet not ridiculous - so you can still look cool or get your head down when dancing to it. Its a rare and fine musical space that not many producers have ever found.

  • Lick!

  • I'm not crying, I just got citric acid in my eye. No really, it hurts, I got citric fucking acid in my eye. Plus this is a sweet ass song. Born in 83 but this shit is sick. Better than a lot of stuff I'm supposed to like today.

  • Manchester

  • @brickiedave Not Manchester, Madchester*. Top one, nice one, get sorted!! The Hacienda. Warehouse parties. Smiley face badges (when they were still underground)

  • @brickiedave Thumbs up from me because i am a Manchester United fan :)

  • Still, dont feel too bad,i think teenagers of any generation tend to latch on to whats popular, when i think of sum of the stuff i used to listen too i cud cringe,it wasnt all so incredible, its just whats around at time, besides,it aint all bad,i still like the odd track i hear , even though i outgrew the clubs...pete tong plays sum good stuff, hes really on the button,i think we old skoolies are just sore cuz we miss the old days,it is hard 2 let go of such fantastic good times and memories.

  • oh,and if u were wondering what old skool was look for any WBMX(american radio station) stuff on youtube ...u may have ashock..yes house was around even then,no chipmunks,no scatman,no pop rip offs, true wicked djs who knew their stuff...mmmmm let there be house!!!

  • (cont)compared to the stuff out then...believe u me me,listening to a fucking sample of a fucking chipmunk over 200bpm just wasnt considered hip ,not only is it infuriating,it is quite scary,(u know the tweaked vocals on so many 'trance' tunes now)Everything has come so diluted, back then u wud recognise a genre instantly ie house/acid/trance/techno/jungle/hardcore/rave....now its kind of like the weakest link and your guess is as good as mine.

  • Yep,it must be annoying for people who were not there in 88/89 i guess, after all,who hasnt used the term old skool....but its all too often abused.4 me,old skool music is rave/house music from say 84(its true!)to maybe 92,mainly 88 to 92 though..not sum pop r n b track latching on 2 the term. But if u fell into rave etc in the mid late 90's,its not that people want to get at you,its just so annoying/perplexing to see kids 2day rave to what seems 2 us like the most shit music imaginable (cont.)

  • Nice to see the video for this one. We had it all in this era...

  • Does anyone have the Tong and Rogers Edit of this.

  • I said enough. Im listening to this right now to shut myself up.

  • Why the fuck do some fickhead people say that this tune is Drum & Bass. This is not D&B dumb retarded people who dont know about music genres. This is House Music with elements of Rave beats and Electro Breaks not Drum & Bass. Surly some people are fick. DRUM & BASS IS LIKE LONDON ELEKTRICITY, DOM & ROLAND, ECT. A GUY CALLED GERALD HAS MADE THIS TUNE INTO HOUSE-RAVE/ELECTRO-RAVE.

  • "Voodoo Ray"

Single by A Guy Called Gerald

    Released 1988

Format 7" vinyl, 12" Vinyl CD maxi,

    Genre Acid house.

YES ACID HOUSE NOT DRUM & BASS. ACID HOUSE IS A GENRE WITH RAVE BREAKS AND ELECTRO-POP ELEMENTS. GOD SAKE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO NEVER LISTEN TO MUSIC SHOULD KNOW ABOUT GENRES OF MUSIC.

  • We had some good clubs over in Liverpool at the time The Underground, the Twilight and even the state was a bit tasty at the time but the mancs had it boxed.

Went to a couple of places around then in Manchester that blew minds.

    And then Blackburn came along!!!!!

  • i'm 26 but i'm so in love with this song, blows up my mind, hope some of the producers will recover this track on the dance floors

  • still rules!!!

  • Im 39 too but dont feel old ( the wife is 26 :)))

    Great track

In the blink of an eye time flies...Squeeze every last drop outa life..peace to all :)

  • memories..... music just isnt the same.

  • We had a good time.

    Didn't we!!!

  • @mainadapter Ohhh yes, we did have a good time :-)

  • Sends shivers down my spine! =)

Brings back boss memories of some of the best days of my life! :) xxx

  • Back in the day I was buzzin 2 this tune and I wasn't just high on life ya get me hehe gud times :)

  • MCR represent :)

  • This is the better, original version I think. the steel drum sound has more impact than the other mixes...rawer and more intense! The sound of late 80's Manchester :))))

  • Great days 89 to 92 time, really good dance music. Playing with Knives, Dirty Cash, 2unlimited, vanilla ice...oh those great times!!

  • @dawnl66 oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

still my all time favourite track, bar none

  • @mykeydread2000 I'm 47 as well, where the hell did the time go? Personally, I blame my pure hedonist lifestyle. Time flies when you are having fun.

  • God this takes me back to Ibiza 1989.......San An.......

  • one of the best tunes ever when tripen out

  • ..more old stuff. Keep 'em comin'.

  • Though I'm in my mid-20s, I consider listening this to be included on everyone's bucket list.

  • If I went back in time to 1989/90, the first thing id do is get my arse over to manchester hacienda, get shitfaced and trip to this track. Pure class.

  • @JordanEmonds ill join you man

  • Totally agree with last post

  • mau5/harris remix anybody? although this tune means so much to me it should be left strictly alone

  • Im old and greying now (39) I was at the traffic lights with this on the cd.Two young geezers pulled up in a saxo and the passenger shouts across "respect to you Grandad.Cheeky b*****ds.I was getting down to this most weekends back in the day.I would do now but the arthritis is bloody murder!!!

  • @wesleypresley1000 Christ !!! for Gods Sake !!! Bring out the WD 40, Penetrating OIl Arthritis it's contagious You know to us old geezers ;))) lol my theory is Arthritis is like a rusty mechanical lever add oil or exercise regularly ;))LOL

I will not be assimilated into OLD > I'll send you a vid of Jetman

I used to spin this track @ my club The Twilight Zone Good memories woof woof !

  • @wesleypresley1000 I respect you as well man this a classic

  • @wesleypresley1000 I'm 43 no hair, but nor arthritis either. Still getting down to it. Not as often as I'd like to, but clubs out there and raves still playing all da old hits. We'll be that generation playing choons so weird that our grand children will be tellin' us to chill and not to take any tabs!!!

  • @Doodlebugdude 43 too, still Dj'ing at parties and loving it more than ever. its a lifestyle choice and dance music is a movement that unites us all. . keep on ;)

  • @wesleypresley1000 i was at the hacienda in manchester dj ing when an undergroung rec label gave us this to play it went through the fucking roof grandad i know what you mean i am also one of those now but i think our days were much more fun all this was new then we were there at the crest of it all what is there now a load of shit whiped up in a clone factory by some mouse clicking college kids with no pulse for music just a theory book and no rythum baby, oh the good old days tripsndips

  • @stampy138 couldnt've said it better stampy.

  • @wesleypresley1000 i know how you feel my knees are bad, lol

  • @wesleypresley1000 wicked comment i full understand.....i'm 40 and fookin luv this tune :-)

  • @ellabubs06 VOODOO VOODOO VOODOO RAAAAAAYYYYY

  • @wesleypresley1000 Those 2 kids are just jealous / what have they got on the music scene now ? let me see, oh yes not a lot !!!!

  • @wesleypresley1000 know what you mean mate, ive tried to explain to the youth of today how the club scene and raves was back in the day and they look at me fucking stupid.

fuck i now feel old but im glad i was 18 in 1988 and not today.there is no dance scene for the youngsters now just fucking x factor and shit like that , that dominates the music scene.

  • @smithdvr Comments like this don't half get repetitve and tedius on all the old skool tracks by people like yourself. Believe me mate there is a dance scene, don't judge today's scene by X-Factor etc. it's the equivalent of me basing the scene of the 90's on Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.......Sankeys, Warehouse Project, still representing the scene in Manchester!!

  • @WythenshaweMancunia yeah sankeys, know it well went there in 96 you could`nt fucking move in the place.but that dos`nt change the facts its still WANK TODAY.

  • @smithdvr No offence mate but if you were there in 96 your best clubbing days have gotta be behind you, if you went today you probably wouldn't enjoy it as you'd stick out like a sore thumb, get off your high horse and come to terms with the idea that maybe, just possibly, young people still like to have fun and know how to! By the way I'm 30 so I'm no whipper snapper but the scene at the minute is thirivng, the only difference between now and the early 90's is that it was a pioneering era then

  • @wesleypresley1000 LOL, at least we had the chemicals to go with the music ;)

  • @wesleypresley1000 i,m the same little txxts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @wesleypresley1000 i,m the same little txxts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! class tune from back in the day.........

  • @wesleypresley1000 nice 1 same as

  • @wesleypresley1000 same people just get it so right, cheers Mr gerald

  • @wesleypresley1000 lol you aint old, I saw him somewhere in Liverpool I am from the US but have tons of family in the UK. I still go out and dance all the time 45 here...:)

  • @wesleypresley1000- Your only as old as the tunes that you spin...I mostly wear a hat these days

  • @wesleypresley1000 I played this to my 11 year old daughter. She looked at me as if i'd gone out.Glad i had the 80's an 90's

  • @wesleypresley1000 39 too,and I blast this from the Goodmans cassette deck in my beige Austin Maestro ,with tartan blanket on the back shelf.Big up the pensioner massive.

  • @wesleypresley1000 i`m also a 39 year old pensioner and I have fond memories of this blasting out of home stereo speakers wedged on the parcel shelf of my VW Derby

  • @wesleypresley1000
