  • jesus "everything in Italy was Italian" lol Oh Tom! What always made Synder a great interviewer I think it's because he was dumb. i'm not kidding it's that very reason why this worked, because he was ignorant, he knew nothing and came to a person, a subject matter always as a virgin. everybody was an alien to him, making them explain in greater details who they were.

  • Tom Snyder - We should've cloned him, or transfused his RNA into someone else. He was a fantastic talk show host.

Harlan Ellison - Maybe somewhat abrasive, maybe sometimes as charming as a canker sore that's had steel wool rubbed over it, but still the man is a cultural treasure. I loved his work in " Mind Fields ".

  • Hopefully we can see the interview they did together back in the late 70s on Tom's show, a classic!

  • 1:57 LOL!

  • Wow, you used to be able to hear intelligence on TV 30 years ago....

  • You're off by about a decade, but I understand the confusion. This was from one of Harlan's many great appearances on Snyder's CNBC show in the early 1990s.

  • Man I miss Tom Syder.

  • I loved the Tom Snyder Show on CNBC....I watched this interview...it was a very good one!!!

  • I want to hear the Steve McQueen story!

  • Search for Harlan Ellison Mind Fields part 2.

  • Snyder was the last non-mugging interviewer.

And he kept Ellison the most civil he ever appeared.

    Two good guys.

  • typical limoscence liberal tom synder..we can learn from european countries,,but we lets all cheer how the church is decaying....unbelievable...hey tom...why dont you learn other languages..?..we were born english ..you made your millions speaking english......such hypocracy

  • The volume on this is nearly silent. I can see the video though. It would be a little cooler to actually hear what's being said.

  • I wish all Tom Snyder's shows were available in some form. I hope they are at least preserved for future generations.

I wish they'd finally release that Harlan Ellison documentary, "Dreams With Sharp Teeth." (The trailer can be found on YouTube.) It looks like Robin Williams had the time of his life hanging out with Harlan.

  • Perhaps when Bush is finally out of office, I can catch a doc in theaters that isn't there to remind us what a nimrod he is (as if we needed to pay $7.50 to figure that one out).

  • you dont need to go to the cinema at all - try the library once in a while.

  • May 26th, according to Amazon.

  • Snyder was alright actually, he liked sci fi it seems. Heard a good interview with him and Ray Bradbury once, it was pretty interesting and respectful.

    Harlan rules too ;D

  • I didn't mean to say that out loud. He was actually a swell guy - apart from the small-minded xenophobic comment he makes near the start of this video.

  • The late Tom Snyder was a HELL of a broadcaster and a great guy. One poorly thought-out remark doesn't take away from that. And how is support of nations having official languages xenophobic?

  • People like to paint this picture that we're a melting pot. But like all the leftovers in your fridge don't make good meatloaf, so it is with our notion of "American Culture"

We're mutts, and I think he was bitching about that.

  • Right on! Tom Snyder was born to host a television show, and late night is not as fun without him.

Before there was political correctness, there was a long-standing adage, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

Well, when in the U. S., a nation founded & populated by persons whose primary language is English (or a close approximation thereof--granted, not the queen's English), then English should be spoken.

When I go to Mexico or Spain, I expect Spanish to be spoken & must conform therein.

  • Completely agree.

Years ago at a sci-fi convention I got to have dinner at a table that included Start Rek's George Takei. He made the most convincing argument for making English the official language of the US that I've ever heard. One question of his that no one could answer: Name one culture that has endured that did NOT have a common tongue.

  • Jeez, I meant Star Trek. I can't believe I made a typo that stupid.

  • i thought it was intentional

almost looked like like Start (to) Wreck to me;)

  • How about China?

They have thousands of minor ones and several dominant ones.

    Just a thought.

  • you cant get on a bus these days and hear english...

  • Cant get on a bus in Denmark and hear Danish either - it's islamic gibberish most of the time.
