  • @TheJoaquen Sankofa Strings y Ebony Hillbillies

  • Yes finally! It's about time black folks take back Dixieland!

  • @dodofairyfromhell

Dude you have no idea what "dixieland" is. Wasn't all that great. Died finally when they stopped playing it on the roof of the Monteleone Hotel in Nwalns. Nothing lost.

  • I'm a white 50 year old englishman and this type of stuff always rocks.

    Love it.

  • Real ROOTS music! I wish more youth especially black youth would take interest in this sort, instead of what your "supposed " to like!

  • "Y'all come black now, y'hea?"

  • THIS is the music that needs to be kept alive. It embodies our history and many cultures.

  • this chick was on on NPR today--- top grade -- if i had any money id buy their new CD ,or all of them !

  • the first version I heard of this song was elizabeth cotten. You guys make it sound rad!!! Keep shreedin that ho-down!!!

  • i have the cd it is the BEST!!!!! you guys are going to get your grammy!!!!

  • I'm a white boy of mixed cultural heritage, but 100% American, and I cannot contemplate or conceive of an America without this! God Bless the Drops!

  • "Right before this clip begins, Rhiannon was explaining that the jug is not of the Carolina Piedmont tradition"

What's more, jug was apparently rarely used musically in the vast majority of the South during the actual old-time era (before roughly 1910). Much of what's been written about supposed pre-1920 widespread musical use of jug is based on the writings of the late Fred Cox, writings that people are realizing these days were apparently completely fictional in places.

  • They are the roots and they are the fruits. Long may the play!

  • wicked tune. big up.

  • Can we have more young cool black american intellectual musicians up to the point where i dont have to write the word "black" anymore in sentences such as this one <-

    Great work CCD.

  • @Marubi2 you should check out cedric watson

  • @Marubi2 you should check out cedric watson

  • @Marubi2 They're out there. You just have to go to shows where they play. Unfortunately, this is a country where ethnic traditions play better when someone white is doing it. Oh, how novel!

  • @Marubi2 You don't have to use "black" in a sentence. They are powerful musicians keeping a beautiful tradition alive.

  • @Marubi2 I CPOULD NOT HAVE said it any better! I like some rap,r&b, hip hop and other similiar music but I also love this kind of music. And I'm so excited about this band.

  • @Marubi2 who cares what race/nationality they are, right? they are just damn fine musicians!!

  • I dont like HIp Hop, But I like this!

  • these guys (and gal) are smokin! what else can you say? i can't wait til they come to my area in late june!

  • THESE GUYS CAME TO MY SCHOOL YESTERDAY!! They were fucking awesome.

  • You are just wonderful! Awesome!

  • Saw these guys at Flat Rock 07, they were definitely the best band there. I would have gotten chills, but I was too busy dancing. :D

  • I saw them in Belfast the other night & they were fantastic.

    Thanks for putting this up.

  • This music aint nothing but Hip Hops Great Great Great Grandfather. All I can say is they Tearin some stuff up............!!!

  • Nice, very good job, y'all.

  • They just played the Ottawa folk Festival and there was nearly a stampede to pick up the CDS afterwards before they left to go to Philadelphia. PUre magic... we loved them... though they thought we were trying to freeze them to death. LOL!

  • Awesome!!! Really awesome! This is the music that Alice Travels for, string band music!

  • We love thier music!! We've seen them several times now, even went to a dance workshop they had. My 5 year old daughter just got her first fiddle because she loves them so much! She got to play with them this weekend at Mt. Airy, and she's on cloud 9!!! THEY ARE AWESOME!!!

  • Awesome music. Gives me the shivers!

  • I didn't think I was the only one meister. I saw them this weekend and it was a revelation. Chills yes, and misty eyes too. There is magic here...

  • YES!!!

  • You are just wonderful! Awesome! I get chills from your music

  • You know how string bands take turns on leads and make the music flow like a story? CCD take turns verbally describing the rich history of their music, just like a song. Their dialogue jams is as good as their string band jams. The past and future of black string band music/tradition is saved!

  • More oldtime history please, I liked the preamble.

  • Right before this clip begins, Rhiannon was explaining that the jug is not of the Carolina Piedmont tradition, but Dom plays it in this song just because it works. The CCD borrow and arrange according to their own sensibilities, but they sure deliver the goods!

  • @newoldtymer

And thank gods for that. One thing that got me away from Old Timey was that some of those cats get into straight reenactment mode.
