whoa that was crazy...i'm dong this piece as a quartet in my percussion class & its mucho hard!!! i didnt think a wind ensemble could do that....that was coolness
Sorry. Sometimes, when I hear a performance that takes what I think is a tempo that distorts so much of the beauty of a work, I get a little nuts. On second hearing it's really not , , , ah.. not . . . GAaaaaa!! It's too fast!!!! AAuuurrrrghghgh!!!!
Unfortunately, being able to compose a fantastic musical piece has no impact on being able to criticise a piece whatsoever, please don't say it does. I can't compose a piece, yet I can sure as heck say "I don't like this piece"
I don't like this arrangement as much as other ones I've heard for orchestra, but those emphasized strings.
Sorry, a picardy third isn't genius, btw. The fugue is close enough to genius though.
Very professional. And thank you for posting on you tube. Please post more as soon as possible I enjoyed your video.

to alexjohnson10, you are right, but think that even playing in a pure mathematical form, in the baroque period you had to play including a certain feeling, that was marked in the way you attacked the notes, thats the diference with the romantic, the tempo was the same, but the note had to be played in a light way, like a river, calmed and fluid. This is what made and still makes Bach so famous and genious.
Actually, Bach wrote the Little Fugue very mathematically and precisely. You're not supposed to have "feeling" in a piece that is very strict to its tempo.
just because it's mathematical doesn't mean it can't have feeling and be aesthetically beautiful. during the baroque period composers were experimenting with the theory that music could make people feel a certain way, called the "Doctrine of Affections." otherwise why have dynamics, hmmm?
We don't. The GDYO is the organization comprised by various young performer's orchestras. This is the wind symphony, as labeled in the description. If you're interested in learning more about it, follow the link.
It's amazing what an ensemble of young musicians can play. I know two of the those euphonium players (on the ends), and they are amazing! :) And really nice too. The Plano East cluster has a lot of good euphonium players, and I'm proud to be one, haha.

This is the Stokowski arrangement of the famous Bach piece, and I think they did a very good job of it -- if not taken it a tad fast. Good job!

indeed... so on organ it's one guy having to do all the hard work, and as a result it sounds better...
no offense...

dramamajor1985, Bach really was a genius, but what dudeman0501 said is tha this final cadence is very commun in the baroque period.
this final cadence for my is very simple, but the genius in this peace is not the cadence, of course.

LOL did i say he wasnt? Why else would I do my thesis on Bach? Although bwv 537 is my favorite.

hard to imagine that bach could play all this by himself

It is not hard... This piece was written for Organ and Bach was a brillant organist...
Here, it's just a transcription for orchestra
