I'm not being bias becuase I think that Billy Joel is a legendary musician and I haven't seen any indication that David Archuletta can do anything but sing...but I don't like this. It seems like he just read the lyrics and decided to sing them. What I mean is, his tone doesn't fit the song. Billy performed these absolutely gorgeous lyrics with a very quiet and sincere character to his voice and it worked beautifully. I'm not getting any emotion here. Sorry. Just my humble thoughts.

marianas trench does a fantastic acapella version of this. way better in my opinion. the focus is left on the lyrics and harmonies, not so overplayed. this was not written to be a pop song

He's a cute kid and is obviously talented, but this song is meant to be sung simply with spare accompaniment. To do otherwise violates its essential meaning. There are too many pop embellishments here that call too much attention to the singer's acrobatics rather than the heartfelt, simple meaning of the song. Like a lot of youngsters, he thinks more is more; it takes age to realize that sometimes it's better to underplay to make a deeper impact.

Way to much reverb on that mic! He did a good job on this and sometimes an artist can pull off an older hit and knock it out of the park, but I really don't see anyone ever touching the soul & feeling Billy Joel put behind this one, they are his words.

I find it incredible that people continue to harass this young man for his interpretation a beautiful song. I agree that the song is deeply meaningful, and Billy Joel sang it quite simply for a reason. But perhaps it has a slightly different meaning to Mr. Archuleta.

This young man is talented, and he put his heart into this song. Only shallow-minded elitism could inspire such abject comments as I have read below. Open up your mind to someone else's interpretation, and learn to appreciate it.

i agree. that song is a very hard song to sing, considering less musical instruments in the background, one little mistake can ruin the whole performance, but it worked. yeah and simon saying that its "predictable". what do u want him to do? jump around and run to make it "unpredictable". lol... overall a very good performance, just wait when this kid grows up a bit as a musical artist, he will be more amazing... considering he is already amazing at that young age.
