  • Speak sing for the win. Marlon aslways kills it.

  • Love this song. Love Brando.

  • i love how he looks so smug, and she just slaps him across the face :D

  • UUU that slap was sexy...haha

  • I'm auditioning for the musical tomorrow and this is the song I'm singing!! Love it. We're not doing G&D for our musical this year though.

  • @CookieMischief8 ME TOO!

  • Our school just did this musical and it was FANTASTIC this makes me cry

  • K seriously, every time someone asks me out, i'm just going to quote these lyrics. XD

  • K seriously, everytime someone asks me out, i'm just going to quote these lyrics. XD

  • Such a great musical!

  • this is gonna be a play at my school ^^

  • @ilikemusic361 Same.

  • @afimcr28 Also I'm playing Sky.

  • I dont neccissarily think Marlon Brando is good looking .. but theres something really intense and steamy about him .. *.*

  • This song reminds me of Carousel's "If i Loved You"

"I wonder What it'd be like?.." --- ('What?') ---- "If ....I loved you..."

'Suppose I said that I'd marry you? Oh..that scares ya doesn't it?.... Well I'm never gonna marry, even if a girl was foolish enough to want me to...I wouldn't !'

I'm never gonna marry, if I was going to marry, I wouldn't have to be such a stickler. But I'm never gonna marry and a girl who don't marry has got to be much more... particular"

  • two big legends!R.I.P.

  • Marlon Brando was a FINE man! woo.... wish i was Jean! God, no wonder she fell in love with him!

  • she meeeeeelted

  • Thanks so much!!! This is going to be a big help 'cause i have to learn the song for a singing thingy.

  • definitely the best number from this movie. Thanks for sharing.

  • and i'll stop and i'll stare and i'll know long before we can speak. great song can't get it outta my head.i love this scene

  • Marlon Brando created sex appeal. Yes, he's that damn sexy.

  • Why can't all men be like that?

  • I would have liked to be jean... I love this movie! I love Brando!

  • @DaniLicious1989 they could remake this. do a new version.

  • he sounds like billy crystal.

  • @BenJamminAsh You mean Billy Crystal sounds like him... but yeah, you're right.

  • god i wish that i was Jean in this scene!!

  • I would have slapped him too but I would probably have the same reaction as she did: "stop struggling and give up"--esp when you look like Marlon Brando.

  • now THATS romance.

  • @yt1account yes-romance, not Drive Angry-sex with a cigar in a tawdry motel room-although that can be quite hot too, but depends on the man & the woman.

  • I would've fainted then and there.

  • Wow, Jean Simmons is pretty good at singing...so is Brando!

  • oh my god, i'm annoyed everytime my mom open this kind of song,

    but OMG MARLON BRANDO!!

  • Brando is the greatest actor of all time.

  • I blind man could tell she loved that kiss.

  • @UNC3345 but she slapped him..........

  • @TheWildswan69 there's this thing called critical thinking, you should check it out :)

  • @UNC3345 WOW. A GENIUS on here.

  • @UNC3345 he loved kissing her, and HE MARRIED HER. even after she slapped him.

  • @UNC3345She was a great actress too!

  • Im Sarah brown at the moment...She's the best character I've played...Jean Simmons will ALWAYS be the best though :) <3

  • A great stage show, and it made a great film.

  • i thought it would be like another predictable cheesy yet somehow enjoyable classic but that ending was so unexpected lmao!

  • ::SWOON!!!:: what is it about the "bad boys"?!

  • This song is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @olikmj123 Lovely song! This song and "I've Never Been In Love Before" are both gems from Frank Loesser. They remind me of Leonard Bernstein's music from "Wonderful Town." It was said that Sinatra wanted this Skye Masterson role instead of his Nathan Detroit role in Guys & Dolls.

  • @Glinkaism1 I never knew that frank sinatra wanted wanted to do Sky masterson instead of Nathan detroit!!!

But i find that marlon brando did sky masterson way better! and i also find that Frank sinatra did Nathan detroit very well! and did u know that Samuel golgdwyn produce the musical film and that it premiered on the 46th street theatre in New York and ran for 1,200 performances! LOL

  • @olikmj123 oli, I agree with you. Brando was best as Skye, as a romantic lover working with Jean Simmons. And Sinatra with his capacity for brashness was best as Nathan. I didn't know the show ran that long.

Here are some esoteric facts about the composer Frank Loesser. Did you know that he wrote "Hoop-Dee-Doo" made famous by polka king Frankie Yankovic, "Just Another Polka" and the Lawrence Welk Show theme, "Bubbles In the Wine?" There's an astounding list of all his songs on his web site. :)

  • I'm doing this for school, man, Sky's parts gonna be TOUGH.

  • I got the lead role of sarah. Now im nervous about the kiss

  • @Sagiebear7 same here :)

  • i love the way he sings and talks...

  • i saw a little kid verson it was good my audition is tuesday

  • "to the homey aroma of his pipe"

    wow.

  • Auditioning for Sky or Nathan On Monday for school play. Thumbs up if your telling me to break a leg.

  • @Dave7oddjob Good luck man! my school is doing the same starting this week. I'm hoping to get a good part.

  • @Teddius1138 my school's doing it too so break a leg!!!! I'm going for Sarah!

  • @AllieSingsAlto sweet! Good luck. : )

  • @Teddius1138 what school do you go to i may no you and you got to say break a leg not good luck they say its bad luck, but thanks

  • @Dave7oddjob sorry "Know you"

  • @Dave7oddjob In Indiana Mississinewa High School? Near Marion?

  • @Dave7oddjob Ha. sorry 'bout that. well i guess it's bad to break a leg also. but i go to Mississinewa High School.

  • She didn't put enough feeling behind it, and every guy in my high school chorus could've sung Sky's part better...

  • Go to ten high school productions of Guys and Dolls and in nine of them the leads will sing better than this. Love Simmons, love Brando, but they have no more business in these rolls than they would in Swan Lake.

Simmons (if it is indeed she singing) has a pleasant voice, but way too weak. Or maybe she was deliberately holding back to keep from leaving Brando too far behind. He's a great actor, but, as a singer, there's just no help for the man.

  • @keithsmd this song is not supposed to show Sarah's strong side. Her true side comes out in Havana

  • not yet i'll let everyone "know when my audition comes along" break a leg as we theathere people would say "break a leg" if i don't make it you can sue me sue me what can you do me i love youtube

  • i'm problely going to enjoy being in it if my auditions for the role sky (marlon brando's role) is sugcessful

  • @EricEdwards13 Have you auditioned yet.

  • my school is doing this musical and i'm audtioning for marlon's role Sky wish me luck on my audition

  • aefguwhldskfhadskjfhasdhfkdsdajhfkdsahfksad

you know an actor is timelessly attractive when both a girl and her grandma can swoon while watching a scene like this.

  • That kiss still melts me, no matter how many times I see this movie.

  • RIP Jean Simmons. We will miss you!

  • very few people could turn that last situation around like that

  • A knee to the groin would have gotten her point across better.

  • @CrandMackerel Maybe, but there's not a bible verse about that. ;)

  • totally tring out with this song for guys and dolls

  • @Chinadollyoucrazy OMG! we're doing it too! and we have to sing this song as one of our audition songs! I'm so nervous! :)

  • mmm<3

  • Ok iv just gotta say-4 me-this wuz very misleading. I wuz trying out 4 my schhols drama club nd b4 i went, every1 else wuz doing a different version. It totally messed me up. =(

  • @skilletluvr13 Well, this is the movie version. Next time try a Broadway soundtrack or iTunes?

  • @sparklegrl0713 kk thnx ill keep tht in mind

  • "And you'll know at a glance, by the two pair of pants" - hilarious

  • I wonder how far down her throat his tounge was.... You can see his cheek muscles trying to stroke her tonsils

  • That kiss was so real looking. I mean after she stopped struggling and all, Marlon just holds her close. Look at what he does with his hands on her back, so real. And his reaction to the slap what hilarious, *Clears throat* "Mm-hmm" xD

  • classic. "that makes it necessary for me to drop by again. matthew 5:39"

  • And she ends up with him. :)

  • that kiss scared me!! it looked like he was strangling her!!!

  • Man ! It's high quality.

  • i'll know when my love coms a.. SLAP!! love that part :)

  • Whats the characters name? Cuz i wanted to try out for the female part.

  • @silverwings101096 Sarah Brown, Marlon is Skye Masterson. we did this show a few years ago at my school :)

  • "Well, that makes it necessary for me to drop back again. Matthew 5:39. Don't bother looking it up, it's the bit about the other cheek."

God, he just got slapped across the face and Marlon Brando's still as suave as can be.

  • If only.

  • marlon brando, frank sinatra, dick van dyke, richerd gere, there all better as apposed to zac efron and justin beiber

jean simmons sally ann howes, vivian blane, judy garland, grace kelly etc are all better as apposed to miley cyrus and the HSM girls

  • See Kids this was what Marlon Brando used to look like....not the big Buddha of a man but a much slimer more smoother guy

  • he was so the hottest thing ever in his prime

  • Did she do her own singing?

  • I never watch the musical before but saw it recently at a high school and I loved it. Marlon is so suave. But dang he lost it when he grabbed her to kiss her like that. I would have slapped him too. lol

  • It looks like she really hit him at the end?

  • He is so slick :P he plays his character perfectley! The perfect, gentlemanly, gambling, ladies man! His voice is fantastic to top it all off!

  • LMAO...

Thought this role as nathan would be a fun one but sky got better songs, better lines, and a kiss scene...

  • I almost cried when i heard that she had died. At least they included her in the tribute at the Oscars.

  • Aw this is lovely, I'd love to see this whole movie.

  • I wish I could play her part, but I, being an alto, can not hit most of those notes..at all.

  • Marlon Brando was one of the greatest actors of all time

  • like Bertolucci said, " An angel as a man, a monster as an actor."

  • @92af

No question. The versatility, the charisma, the style. Sheer raw talent. I also find it interesting that he grabs the scene where ever he is without any special effects required.

  • I'm auditioning for Sky but I can't hit those low notes because I'm 12.

  • Good luck. I hope you get the part.

  • I got the part of Sky and i auditioned for Nathan. (I'm 11)

  • I have the role as Sarah for my school play and I can hit those really high notes and im 12 :D

  • it's probably BECAUSE you're twelve you can hit them, younger children often have really high voices.

well done anyway it's an awesome part.

  • Girls' voices develop sooner than boys' voices do. Boys voices often don't drop completely until college!

  • i love his little smirk.

  • simmons was an excellent athlete. later in the movie she slugs a rival for marlon's attention with a beautiful right cross and then hurls coconuts in the night club brawl with the motion of

a shortstop...and, as damon runyon might put it, she is also

    a looker!

  • Jean Simmons plays this role perfectly, IMO. I was just cast as Sarah, and I'm using her as my inspiration for the role. She's brilliant!

  • Brando sings!!!

  • Singing is a very loose term here

  • what're you talkin' about?!

  • Marvelous!!

  • my chorus class is singing this song right now ^_^

    Jean Simmons is fantastic!

  • you cant hit the notes?? how did you get the audition?

  • i have got an audition on guys and dolls and i am going for arah brown. i have to sing this and if i were a bell :) i just cant hit the notes :(. any advise?

  • @xeeveemad ohkay uve probably heard this but breathe from your stomach and not your chest, open your mouth really wide, practice like crazy, and dont drink milk the day of the auditions. do eat oranges!

  • @fayt1029 You can't eat oranges either! Too much acid!! It'll strip away that protective coating on your vocal chords! Best thing is to drink plain tea, hot is best, but cold will do as well.

  • practice and don't force them out cus you'll strain and hurt your voice good luck

  • deepthroating always helps girls hit notes.. ahah just kidding.. just work on it.. don't be nervous.

  • The best slap in the whole cinema history! And his face after it is worth an oscar!

    So sorry she's died...

  • that's right sarah, sweetheart! smack him hard!! lol such an awesome musical/film :)

  • rip jean your one of my favorites

  • RIP Jean xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • God bless you forever, Jean!

  • RIP Jean Simmons, by far the most beautiful actress of her generation.

  • the best film I ever seen ! Brando, Sinatra,&jane Simmons were fantastic

  • marlon brando *sigh*

  • agreed :)

  • @OrdinaryGirl90 Ain't it the truth!

  • R.I.P Jean Simmons

  • You where amazing Jean Simmons, Ophelia, Sarah Brown! you will always be remembered !

  • You will always be Remembered, Ms. Simmons

  • RIP Jean. Another great gone.

  • R.I.PJean

  • RIP Jean. Thank you for everything! I loved your Sarah Brown.

  • please tell me what other actor could starin a musical (make it a hit), star in plays (street car both performed on film and on stage), can make him self known for epic performances (godfather, superman) and make it memorable, and also lead a whole school of actors (from robert deniro, to james dean, onto johnny depp just to mention a few) - perhaps wasted genius but genius nonetheless

  • "the homey aroma of his pipe"

    i lol'd

  • No wonder Sinatra was pissed. This was the role Frank wanted, not Nathan Detroit. I understand that he felt that singers, not actors, should have been cast in the roles. Eight years later, he got his revenge with a "Reprise Reparatory Theatre" album of the musical featuring his Rat Pack buddies, and to my ear his recording of "Luck Be a Lady" rocks!

  • yeah you're right... but although Frank Sinatra has a MUCH better voice, Marlon BRando, had the acting and the slyness down... essentially Sky's Character is a romantic type and very quiet and sly.

  • I just feel that Brando was never the song-and-dance type. Outside of gangsters (Don Corleone) and misunderstood types (Terry Malloy), Brando was out of his element. I am a Brando fan, but in my view this picture was the beginning of the artistic slide which continued until "The Godfather."

  • i do agree with you on that...

but Streetcar was definitely his beginning...

it was his first in fact.. and that baically helped him grow as an actor

  • True. His peak began with "Streetcar" and went through "The Wild One." After that, Brando grew progressively lazy, to the point where he read his lines off cue cards instead of memorizing them. I understand he even used them in "The Godfather."

  • yes that is true, but once you get into acting in film, it isn't very vital to memorizig them, so much as memorizing the blocking. if you memorize your movements then the rest is all downhill fromm there.

  • It escapes me, though, that an actor of his genius could let the quality of his films go downhill like that, especially by the 1960s. And even after his brief revival with "Godfather" and "Last Tango", he in essence became the most high-priced bit actor in the business, doing what amounted to cameos for seven-figure paydays. I felt he underachieved in many ways.

  • I think he simply stopped caring as hollywood sold out

  • True, but what a difference he could have made had he stayed in the game.

  • @vidnut67 Although Sinatra would have been great in this role, Brando did a wonderful job (not the greatest singer, but acting was spot on). I really think for the film version of the musical they wanted more "actors" than "singers" anyways. Plus, if you look back to Sinatra's other film roles, he seems very type-cast as Nathan Detroit. Funny, charming, etc. With Sky, he needed to be much more...subtle. And more of a quiet sarcasm.

  • omg, i just got the part of Sarah...i'm a little scared about all the singing tho... O.o

  • how'd you get the part if you can't sing?

  • i really have no idea, maybe they just liked my acting...

  • oh haha.

  • My friend got the part of Sarah!

  • woah that slap looked really real

  • she actually hit him though haha.

it wasn't a stage slap it was REAL hahaha

  • Marlon is by far the slickest, coolest, smoothest of them all.He adds so much to the role. And A blind man could tell she loved that kiss.
