At least Algerians in France respect the French culture and system despite the hardships they've faced (both from the French in Algeria, and the French in France).

They understood people were fleeing danger, and that danger was caused by the French rule, so they allowed people to settle in France. They were even mistreated by the French soldiers that they were fighting alongside when on the front line in WW2. Most fled to France because of necessity/familiarity/ease.

Algerians were confused about their political system as it had only just been handed back to them to control fully after 100 years of having no vote & say. There was still censorship. There was no way of educating the masses re the voting system. It was a mess BECAUSE OF THE FRENCH.

@beewrotten DON'T FORGET ALGERIAN SOLDIERS WERE USED TO FIGHT ON THE FRONT LINE FOR THE FRENCH IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR. ALGERIAN SOLDIERS LOST THEIR LIVES FIGHTING A WAR WHICH SHOULDN'T HAVE INVOLVED THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. I think that grants them a French passport quite frankly.

@beewrotten Also the French were in Algeria for about a century, and took Algerians to France to fill manual labour jobs etc. Those Algerians made lives for themselves there while working for the French (while at the same time being exploited), so a lot of workers settled over there, again, the French's fault really.

Of course, some Algerians wanted the French to stay, but they were in a minority and those Algerians didn't take physical action. So after the independance, those Algerians who fought against their own people were scared to stay in their own country, and were granted citizenship in France.
