yes, they are amazing, and they do love a challenge! Squirrels like to steal food, especially when it is tough to get to it... they are intelligent critters. I think they abhor boredom, so they love to go along with the plays we set up for them. I once set up a loooong PVC pole, with a U-turn at the end of it, and hung the bird feeder onto the bend. They climbed up with no problem. Then I made it harder by rubbing oil on the pole, lol... they had a lot of fun with it and learned to do it!
Out of all the spinning bird feeders, I think the Yankee flipper is the most efficient one out there. All the other ones allow the squirrels to hang on and eventually, those spinners will stop.

@jesspf15 That's the problem with a lot of these "squirrel proof" bird feeders. People think that the squirrels are just dumb and keep trying to get the birdseed only to be flung off. In actuality, they've learned to knock a lot of seed out of the feeder by jumping on it then eating the seed off the ground.
@jesspf15 - Yep. I saw it. But you should see that little f##ker wipe out my "house" feeder. She would just sit there and scoop it out - maybe 10% made into her mouth. Grovelly... This is much more fun.

I put straight black oil sunflower seed in mine. It doesn't fling out like that. You can get a 40# bag at the homesore (Lowe's, Home Depot or similar) very reasonably. From what I've seen about the only thing that likes millet anyway, at least around here, are the Mourning Doves and they're too big to get on this feeder anyway. Or at least they're supposed to be. I've seen one or two fat doves twist around to fit.
