I sorta think of SWAT 4 as a spiritual successor to this game. Obviously highly influenced by Rainbow Six.

Rainbow Six is basically the father of all tactical FPS's... it's really not surprising that SWAT 4 managed to be very similar (though SWAT 3 is WAY more Rainbow Six-ey).

Vegas 1 & 2 weren't bad... as FPS's. As Rainbow Six games, definitely. As for Ghost Recon, I haven't played enough of 2 or GRAW1/2 to say anything yet.

This game is best tactical shooter -- hands down. Try giving this to the average "gamer" today, their IQs are so low, they wouldn't even understand how to play the game.

Ghost Recon 1's pretty top-notch too.

And yes, most gamers these days would have no idea that "slow and steady" is the best way to play a game like this. They're just too used to "run and gun EVERYWHERE."

As for people still playing it, not all that many. Still a few though.

BTW, I tried to install this game couple of months ago to give it a second chance, and it seems that the game doesn't run well on modern PCs. How did you manage to make it to work?

You probably won't believe this, but Raven Shield was a big dissapointment for me. And I'm a guy who played R61, R62, R6: Black Thorn, R6: Vegas 1 & 2, and beaten Ghost Recon 1 and its two expansions without casualties.

I really really wanted to like this game when I played it 5 or so years ago, but the thing that killed this game for me was the AI. Your guys are incredibly stupid, while tangos are very good, competent sharpshooters. It's almost as programmers switched their AIs by mistake.

At least you didn't play Lockdown. AI was stupid enough that you'd almost never die unless you ran right in front of a guy like you were trying to melee him (which of course you can't do).

Anyway, Raven Shield is the best in the series, for sure. It's not quite so ridiculous as the earlier titles (seriously, if you didn't have the auto-aim on, you couldn't hit much of anything before you got annihilated), but nor is it anywhere near as arcadey as the later titles (eg. Vegas and Lockdown).
