There were a total of NIU students who died as of the time of this video and it was a mistake that it was six that was spread for a while over the media, where one death was reported twice by two agencies. I know of no additional deaths. A quick check of the Northern Star newspaper, NIU's newspaper, has a memorial page with five students.

There should be armed security guards on campus.I went to Brooklyn College and the idiot guards there dont even look at your id when you walk in.The truth is,you cant prevent things like this from happening.Just be lucky that most people are sane.
I used to preach that gun control would solve problems like this, but, not true. You know, it's kind of like "punishing" a drunk driver who killed someone by taking their license away.....they can still drive....although illegally, but it does not stop them and they can go out and kill again. Tougher gun control would not stop senseless violence as this. Reopening state "mental institutions" could be a place to start in prevention of such violence!
One victims family talked her out of another tour in Iraq, very sad, this lost soul took a soldiers life so cheaply. How ironic. My prayers go out to all involved. Sad now, the handgun issue will again be thrust into the limelight, that is our second amendment rite to bear arms. This election could very well jeopordize that rite.
Well, Zapominaliska, eliminating guns would cause even more problems. For example, England has gun control and they are having a huge problem with the criminals over there. The sad fact is that criminals can still get guns or other weapons.

I see what you are saying. From what I understand, I admit I could be wrong here, but the NRA actually wants a law passed where people with mental problems aren't allowed to have guns. However, the real issue with that is that it conflicts with patient/doctor relations. The doctor is under an obligation of not telling people and officials that his patient has mental problems. I'm currently researching this but that's what I understand.
what i see here is the gun situation is similar to the iraq war. if we stay in iraq we are screwed. if we leave, we are screwed. same with guns. if we keep gun law the same, we are screwed. if we make em illegal, then people will go crazy to get them and once a gain we are screwed. but timesobserver, you obviously know more about this stuff than i do so yeah. i just dont know i think we should strengthen security in our schools cause its too easy to get a gun inside
While some are saying that strengthening security in our schools is a waste of time, I don't think so. Just like you, I think it's a good idea. I think that's a good way to lessen the chances of something like this happening. And I learned that the NRA really does want to restrict mentally ill patients from having guns and I think that would be extremely helpful as well.
strenghtening security in schools is a waste of time? those ppl are dumb thats the whole point. you and i are right i think its a no brainer that mentally ill ppl shouldnt have guns there shouldnt even be a dispute about that. as for security well thats a no brainer too. i was able to sneak in a kitchen knife into my elementary school. there was no beep or anything i could have killed someone right there. if ppl think we are being too paranoid they are wrong.
You know, Zapominaliska, that reminds me of a story my father told me once. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and he told me about his first day of high school back in the 1950's. He told me he wasn't surprised when a student pulled a knife on a teacher but he was surprised when the teacher pulled out his own knife. Anyway, maybe it's time Congress stop with the pork and add some federal tax dollar for security in our public and private schools.
yeah your right. they let people get guns so easily and not only that you can practically just waltz into the school with it no problem then they wonder why people are getting shot. What i also think is that the gun problem also has something to do with parenting these days. parents cannot tell their kids no and now kids are killing their own parents and doing drugs and stuff. this society lacks discipline.
Your constitutional right is to be allowed to have guns...If the government takes that right away there will be a revolution again. Its bad enough we are losing all of our other rights.
