I think it is interesting how Laura Dern played herself, while supposedly playing Katherine Harris. I didn't know Laura was such a dizzy blond!! She sure is a horrible actress!! Welcome Nakedladymudflap (Interesting call sign). I thought you might be interested in what my class of 80 students had to say. A poll was taken and the movie scored 87% of value to the class. Most of my Seniors have interned for a politician in both parties in DC, FL and TX. In their opinion, HBO did a "respectable" job of displaying of the personalities. Two of my students actually campaigned for Ms. Harris and said that it was "so her".
You missed the point. The charactorization of her mannerisms etc may have been accurate but the producer admitted that the dialogue was fictional. I thought that the overall film was reasonably accurate, with some interesting facts left out. For instance, to recount in the way that Gore asked actually violated state laws...which had been passed by a Dem majority state legislature BTW. It also left out the fact that K Harris asked the Fla Supremes to order a statewide recount...Gore sued to stop.

The Demos didn't want to count the whole state...just the 3 counties with the largest majority of Democratic voters in the state...and they wanted to count in a way that had never been done in the state before. They also claimed that there was black voter intimidation by the police in Tampa...which was not true. No, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights chaired by Mary F Berry investigated the allegation and found that there was no voter intimidation. The Tampa police chased down and captured an armed robber near a polling place and people claimed that they were trying to intimidate voters. I watched this movie and it made me mad. Before I say anything else I will say that whether or not the movie is "tainted" on what really happened, they did place alot of facts on there. It's ashame that Republicans could do things like that but not just to point out republicans but just the people in these positions who decided to do things like this should really make people get up and be more informed about how things are ran in this country.

Welcome Nakedladymudflap (Interesting call sign). I thought you might be interested in what my class of 80 students had to say. A poll was taken and the movie scored 87% of value to the class. Most of my Seniors have interned for a politician in both parties in DC, FL and TX. In their opinion, HBO did a "respectable" job of displaying of the personalities. Two of my students actually campaigned for Ms. Harris and said that it was "so her".

You missed the point. The charactorization of her mannerisms etc may have been accurate but the producer admitted that the dialogue was fictional. I thought that the overall film was reasonably accurate, with some interesting facts left out. For instance, to recount in the way that Gore asked actually violated state laws...which had been passed by a Dem majority state legislature BTW. It also left out the fact that K Harris asked the Fla Supremes to order a statewide recount...Gore sued to stop.

Gore only wanted to recount the 4 most heavily democratic counties in the state...why just them if he wanted fairness? He didn't, he only wanted the counties counted that would add votes to his tally. What he tried to do is despicable and hurt the country. He was offered a very fair statewide recount and blocked that offer legally. He had a chance to have every vote recounted...which is what he claimed to want but really didn't. He did say that he wanted every vote counted didn't he?

All of the counties in every state in the country have ballot "problems"...over-votes, under votes, ballots that aren't counted for various reasons...yet, Gore only wanted to re-count the 4 most heavily democratic leaning counties in Fla because they miraculously were the only ones with any problems and coincidently they were "wink, wink" the ones most likely to help him? The Demos didn't want to count the whole state...just the 3 counties with the largest majority of Democratic voters in the state...and they wanted to count in a way that had never been done in the state before. They also claimed that there was black voter intimidation by the police in Tampa...which was not true. No, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights chaired by Mary F Berry investigated the allegation and found that there was no voter intimidation. The Tampa police chased down and captured an armed robber near a polling place and people claimed that they were trying to intimidate voters. It was a trumped up allegation and found to be groundless.

I watched this movie and it made me mad. Before I say anything else I will say that whether or not the movie is "tainted" on what really happened, they did place alot of facts on there. It's ashame that Republicans could do things like that but not just to point out republicans but just the people in these positions who decided to do things like this should really make people get up and be more informed about how things are ran in this country.

If we had a viable 3rd and 4th parties, they wouldn't be able to keep us in step with this "left, right, left" nonsense.

C.R., true enough, I suppose. I don't thin, for the most part, it's the entire party that causes this divide, though.
I think it's far more because a few, select individuals in either party tend to attract very divisive behavior.
But then again I also firmly believe that this is intentionally engineered.
You can blame guys like Karl Rove, if you like. But they're such minor players in the party war when compared to guys like George Soros, whose pockets are so deep and hate so strong.

As for the 3rd party candidates, I don't know what to say to that.
It's not like we haven't had a long line of Ross Perots and Ralph Naders. (And, if you want to count him that way, Ron Pauls.)
I don't see the problem being a shortage of 3rd party candidates. I see the problem as being a shortage of 3rd party candidates that merit being taken seriously.

I think that we should ban party politics altogether. No more block voting in the house and senate. No party able to block votes or prevent confirmation votes. No DNC/ RNC. Every candidate runs on what he believs/ no party support. No contributions by businesses, unions, lobbies etc. It's all the party stuff that's the problem. Hell, as soon as one party gains majority power, the other party sets out to discredit them in any way possible...it's rediculous!

Yep, and those in power (on both sides) want to keep it that way because it's what allows them to remain in power. If there were no party politics and every candidate ran on his or her own beliefs, I bet things would actually get done in this country and the real issues would actually be fixed.
