Beautiful to say the least. Sounds like a gateway to the soul. Is learning the duduk a difficult transition for a seasoned ole sax player. The world of duduk is new and facsinating to me. I will research what I can.
@marcc74 Thanks. It's certainly a Difficult instrument for anyone to play. The issue you'd have is the technique would conflict with your sax technique, in that you have to puff the cheeks when you play, and have to use lots of lip movement (vibrato, glissando, etc), so it feels weird to have break the rules you learnt to play sax with. Other then that, I don't see why you can't play it. Just needs allot of work is all! Just like any instrument
Ahh, I definitely understand your point. What about MP3s of your videos for "First Duduk Video of 2011" or the Duduk and Egyptian Oud duo video? Both of those are beautiful and ethereal, and I'm sure people would love an MP3 of either one. I know I would.
@Aorticax Hi There. Afraid not, since i'd be infringing on distribution laws if I did that. Best bet would be to check out the original from the soundtrack, since it's much nicer then my old take on it. Thanks for watching.
Part of me wishes everyone would learn to speak through music. Once you have learned to speak through an instrument, I have gathered that people are much more concerned about the way/manner in which they speak when using actual language. In other words, they are more attune to putting together more meaningful speech, that includes better usage of their chosen language, and the words that make up that language. Long live music!
@10Bones01 Interesting, but sadly, not always the case.. Many use music the same way they use regular language... to show off, to inflate the ego, to make money, to influence people, etc etc. Not everyone is artistically inclined in regards to the language of music and expression..
@Dreamfullofzen True, not ALWAYS the case. I suppose that I conserve my focus to those people who are positively influenced by music. Glass half full my friend. (Though I do see where you are coming from with what you said).
@10Bones01 But of course. I've dealt with lots of musicians over the years, and it's always something that's there... the competition, the desire to be recognized, Pride, and other things. Allot of what happens in normal language can happen in music. And sadly, those who do positive things with their music are either scoffed at, or remain unknown for the most part of their careers.
@chuster777 Hi Chuster, Afraid not, unless they published the score (which I don't know if they did or didn't). I just listened to the track over and over and picked out the tune.. Even then I'm not doing it completely right, it's allot faster then I'm playing it, and has some Mugam based quarter tonal stuff which I also didn't Nail in the video. Perhaps in the future I can do a video lesson on how to play the tune. Thanks for watching.
@bruiseviolet05 I have done so in the past, and had intended to do so at the university i teach at. Is there something you need help with? Thanks for watching.
I too just discovered the name of this beautiful instrument not that long ago. It moves me to my very soul.... I can feel the pain & sorrow this instrument projects. I am an artist and I find myself painting to the sound of the duduk playing in the background. I wish to someday purchase 1 and learn how to play it. Any advice on where I can find a good duduk?? Thanks.
@EricWilke1141987 You should. For years i tried to find samples or anything decent for composition & in the end i gave up on that idea and decided to just get one... Best choice i made in a long time....
I love your duduk playing. Your videos caused me to discover the duduk and eventually buy one myself. I'm learning to play, and I'm wondering where you get your drone tracks that you use in the background.
@Hellfire7896321 Hi Hellfire. I'm glad to hear that! I hope you're enjoying playing the duduk. I create the drone tracks myself using software synthesizers. If you're familiar with using music creation software you can do it yourself, or alternatively you can message me your email address & i can send them to you. I'm probably going to add a section to my website for Duduk stuff soon actually...
@SaracenWarrior Well,it's not quite right, Djivan plays it abit quicker and the notes are not quite right, since he's playing a mugham, and i couldn't quite get the quarter tones right.
Actually a bit before that with The Last Temptation of the Christ, Peter Gabriel was responsible i think for it becoming a staple. It's ridiculous now, practically every major score has Duduk in it now! And yes i listened to the CD the day after you gave it to me, some nice stuff on there!
You keep amazing me with the stuff you put up! Thanks for showing what a beautiful instrument the duduk is, which I didn't know of before your videos.
Well, to be honest you should listen to the pros, Levon Minnassian, Gevorg Dabaghyan, and obviously Djivan Gasparyan.. Those guys make it sound ethereal and truly something else!
@SianJosette it is indeed. Duduk really captures that sound. Thanks for watching :)
