Perfect double back salto on the first tumble, and she did it on a springless floor. That's amazing. On the second tumbling routine, the last back handspring was so fluent, she looked like a fish gliding through water. Nellie Kim is such a talented gymnast.
Im not quite sure of the answer...supposedly bluemaxof spring loaded flooring came into effect in the late 70's BUT exactly when maybe only someone 'in the know' has the answer-whenever it came in though, be sure of one thing...it was NOT sprung like it is today of course so yes its clever for full twisting DB's to be performed on these mats like Mukhina did......
The vast change between these olympics and1980 is perhaps the most marked change in terms of artistry and the development of difficulty....do you agree?
thanks a lot karen, if i recall nellie kim is from russia, kazakhstan near the border of china that is why she is chinese looking and her name kim is chinese surname too
She was actually born in what is now Tajikistan. She's one of the only well-known Soviet gymnasts to be from that country, which I thought was interesting.
Esto si es gimnasia artistica lo de hoy es gimnasia robotica

This was before they spring loaded floors, right? Wow, I can't imagine doing a double back on a flat surface, yikes.
