I think that Microsoft might actually have gotten it right this time. never thought I'd say this. I always thought that android tablets and ipads are somehow crippled when it comes to using them with a proper keyboard and a track pad (i.e.transformer prime). Windows 8 though can be used as a proper tablet system with apps and a touch interface that proved to work on windows phones or a desktop pc with all my windows software on it when docked to a keyboard.
@theshiningeagle Yes they will work on ARM as well as standard processors. They will not work on Galaxy tablets though because as Microsoft said, it would be like using android on an iPAD. It just won't fly.
I read that microsoft have made a deal with HTC for making new tablets with the 1366×768 resolution. For now there are not many tablets with such resolution and they are pricey. One thing is for sure, we will be spending lot’s of dollars when windows 8 come out :)

I am not at ALL a Microsoft fan. I actually hate Microsoft. Yet I am stuck with Microsoft products in my house. I still prefer apple anyday. But this piece of technology has really impressed me.
I think the only downgrade in it is that it will have viruses for sure.
But it still looks pretty cool and in allot of ways looks 10x times better than the Ipad.
So I can't wait to check it out in the showroom once it's out. If it is good. Then I don't think I can resist buying it....

Not really bothered about the apps of windows 8 because i would use it on a desktop and the metro interface sucks. When i simply want to open the pictures folder i dont want to see some stupid animations of squares jumping about for me to simply see a photo
@freedom0fsyria I think touch technology in general is still temperamental. Be it a Galaxy S2, an iPhone or iPad, it seems to only work 85% of the time. Often with my devices, I'll have to swipe or press a number of times before the system gets it. It's a bit shitty. I'm still quite partial to a good button.
This OS is EXACTLY what I want for a tablet form factor but I dunno what its going to be like on PC because I've tried the RC on my PC & a mac and I didn't like it atall! It kinda annoys me they're calling this windows 8 because it suggests its going to be the successor to 7 but based on what I've seen I wouldn't necessarily want it on my PC but hey ho cant have it all I suggest Windows tablet ;p
Now, imagine: An Ultrabook like the Lenovo Yoga, but with an 11 Inch Screen and Windows 8 and new Intel Hardware which will last at least a day. iPad and Android will be blown away!

To all those people hating on this: I have tried the developer preview, it boots in UNDER TEN SECONDS... on a laptop from 2002! There IS a traditional desktop, and the OS runs smoothly and is optimized like crazy. Since it's built to run on tablets, the requirements will likly be lower, so you could install it on low-end machines. The metro menu is actually pretty nice, it remaps the windows key to open the metro start menu, and multitasks very well. Don't judge the OS by it's appearence.
I personally think Windows 8 on the Asus Transformer Prime will be better than ICS on the Asus Transformer prime because with Window's 8 Desktop Mode, the keyboard dock will be more necessary for that matter. Asus was planning to release an Windows 8 ARM tablet this year, but I surely hope it will run on an improver version on the transformer prime.
@metabog I agree. But judging from the response... there will be a lot of ppl turned off by the design choices of Win8. Also, there will still be the desire to have apps on a tablet form factor... so hopefully the app community will gravitate towards Win8... that's the only way I'd dismiss owning whatever the next version of Android brings. There are a lot of apps that don't really have free/cheap program equivalents that stack up.
Way better than the iPad, for sure. These will definitely outsell the competition within a year of being released, as long as stubborn Apple cult followers don't refuse to get one just because they think Apple is better.

Guys, yes you can do anything windows can, yes you can use Photoshop, yes you can do everything a normal PC can do. I'm pretty sure if you have at least 2 USB ports you can also hook up a mouse and keyboard so you can treat it like a normal PC. Isn't this freaken sweet? Yes! Looks interesting. They're beginning to blend the line between tablet PC and regular PC. Seems absolutely unnecessary, since the touchscreen thing works a lot better when you have no other options (see: on the go), such as a mouse or a keyboard...but whatever gets people to buy it I suppose.
I can say that I've tried Win7 mobile, and it was absolutely awful. Unless your app was made by microsoft, it was the slowest fucking thing in the world. Sold that phone instantly for an iPhone.
Even as a tablet so far it seems pretty unresponsive to the ges... itures. Both of our demonstrators had problems pulling in from the side as well as pinning the apps to screen positions... i'm not sure i'd trust windows on a tablet either, they lost the race against apple and this seems like a dumb move at this point in time it's like the wii, it knows where it's strong and wins, but knows it's not a ps3 or xbox, it knows not to take itself seriosuly... this feels like fail to me. comment

This version of windows is going to be confusing to computer newbies. I had a hard time following all the functions and I have had all the different windows since 98.. I can see how Apple will pick up a few more customers.
if you want to keep the win7 explorer on, please keep the start button same as win7's. It's a great tablet UI, but this is screwing up tablet with daily PC usage.
Keep the win8's start button a right hand side menu button, or a physical button like apple did, just don't replace the win7's start button with them.
people who criticize the new start screen on a desktop or laptop haven't tried the developer preview. It works surprisingly well in that setting. I don't use metro apps (only experimented with them when i first installed Win 8) and so everything else is pretty close to win 7. Can't wait for the beta to see how much as improved.
Now that i watch this again, i realize she simply didn't know how to do the touch gestures right because i've seen other demonstrations and it went so smooth, not down talking her but for people thinking it is Windows not picking up her movements i believe that is incorrect.

@Habalabama dude re-read the title, this is a DEVELOPER preview its buggy as hell but micro released it so one, devs can create metro apps for the release of 8 AND it is pretty much a alpha, as in NOT COMPLETED.

@SkywardDragonKing I agree with all that. Still, an iPad preview that had this (lack of) feel to it wouldn't draw this response. She may be new to Win8. The whole point is that it shouldn't matter. I do hope that Microsoft will get this right. As a WPF developer I want to be on the platform of choice.
@Habalabama also i just watched a few other videos after this one and other people had no issue with the flicking so i seriously doubt it was the hardware or software, because it ran super smooth and all the animations and touch controls worked almost flawless.

Also, there will still be the desire to have apps on a tablet form factor... so hopefully the app community will gravitate towards Win8... that's the only way I'd dismiss owning whatever the next version of Android brings. There are a lot of apps that don't really have free/cheap program equivalents that stack up.

Guys, yes you can do anything windows can, yes you can use Photoshop, yes you can do everything a normal PC can do. I'm pretty sure if you have at least 2 USB ports you can also hook up a mouse and keyboard so you can treat it like a normal PC. Isn't this freaken sweet? Yes! Want to hook it up to your TV or monitor for a larger screen? Just plug in a mini HDMI cable and your good. Is your TV too far away?? Invest in a wireless HDMI adapter. Also we all know windows is the most used OS out there.

Looks interesting. They're beginning to blend the line between tablet PC and regular PC. Seems absolutely unnecessary, since the touchscreen thing works a lot better when you have no other options (see: on the go), such as a mouse or a keyboard...but whatever gets people to buy it I suppose.
I can say that I've tried Win7 mobile, and it was absolutely awful. Unless your app was made by microsoft, it was the slowest fucking thing in the world. Sold that phone instantly for an iPhone.

Even as a tablet so far it seems pretty unresponsive to the ges... itures. Both of our demonstrators had problems pulling in from the side as well as pinning the apps to screen positions... i'm not sure i'd trust windows on a tablet either, they lost the race against apple and this seems like a dumb move at this point in time it's like the wii, it knows where it's strong and wins, but knows it's not a ps3 or xbox, it knows not to take itself seriosuly... this feels like fail to me. comment

@ds17166 this is a developer preview,it's not even beta.plus you need a good hardare so your fingers can move smoothly from the edge of the tablet to the screen.and why they have lost the race to apple?this can do eveything a ipad and android cand do plus the nromal pc stuff with all the apps and programs.it has superior hardare and conectivity.this is what the ipad should have been when launched,not an oversized iphone .

@ThePunisherNWO NO, Windows 8 Tablets will run on ARM. To run traditional programs you need Windows 8 on x86. Windows 8 Tablets are going to be marketed against iPad and Android, they will use "Apps."
I see no reason why someone in their right mind would purchase a Windows 8 Tablet. Android and iOS are the only two I would consider.

This version of windows is going to be confusing to computer newbies. I had a hard time following all the functions and I have had all the different windows since 98.. I can see how Apple will pick up a few more customers.

if you want to keep the win7 explorer on, please keep the start button same as win7's. It's a great tablet UI, but this is screwing up tablet with daily PC usage.
Keep the win8's start button a right hand side menu button, or a physical button like apple did, just don't replace the win7's start button with them.

people who criticize the new start screen on a desktop or laptop haven't tried the developer preview. It works surprisingly well in that setting. I don't use metro apps (only experimented with them when i first installed Win 8) and so everything else is pretty close to win 7. Can't wait for the beta to see how much as improved.

Now that i watch this again, i realize she simply didn't know how to do the touch gestures right because i've seen other demonstrations and it went so smooth, not down talking her but for people thinking it is Windows not picking up her movements i believe that is incorrect.

I do hope that Microsoft will get this right. As a WPF developer I want to be on the platform of choice.

@Habalabama also i just watched a few other videos after this one and other people had no issue with the flicking so i seriously doubt it was the hardware or software, because it ran super smooth and all the animations and touch controls worked almost flawless.
