adam west wasn't fat, he was just average build, imagine if mike henry of 60's tarzan fame was batman, since he was originally cast as batman or he was wanted by the producers of batman, talk about being able to fill out that leotard batman costume! whew! lyle waggoner audition for the role but couldn't do the campy acting so he wasn't cast.

It's too bad Batgirl wasn't added until the show's third season;the sight of Batgirl falling into the Joker's trap and being captured along with Batman and Robin would had been priceless. How would Batgirl had escaped? After Batman and Robin climbed out of the smokestack, Batman would throw down his batrope to Batgirl and pull her out of the smokestack.

This is easily the most creative cliffhanger of the Adam West Batman series! A great poem as the Duo are caught, an ingenious deathtrap and a brilliant escape!
That's the first season for you. Great script by Francis and Marian Cockrell. They also did the Minstrel episode, and in both, you can sort of see a human side to the villains as they sympathize with their molls' sense of remorse of having to do away with the duo, not to mention the vilains' acknowledgement of Batman and Robin as more than worthy opponents.
@WayneGrayson I didn't realize they wrote the Minstrel episodes as well....BOTH (this and Van Johnson's character) both sang to Batman & Robin right at the trap scenes as well
@msk7046 Oh, yeah...I never thought about it or even noticed it. The Cockrells should have done more for this series. I'm going to re-do this clip this weekend. I hadn't watched the clip since I posted it, but I saw that it could look a lot better, and it will. I have better software and a better Bat box set these days, so I'm redoing it. My newest box set doesn't have that hideous FX logo in the corner and the color correction is better.
@kchishol1970 this is also one ( in my veiw) of the darkest cliffhangners everything about is dark the dialog the situation the primise everything about it love it
Yep, that was Victor Paul stunting for Robin. His nose was pointy and his hair was shorter, and, damn, did he have great legs. I also loved tat line about the criminal world, and I thought Cesar was just adorable when he did that square dance routine. Someone posted some photos of their escape, and I thought "why not post the whole cliffhanger". Robin made me laugh out loud with his hyper "WE GOT YOU THIS TIME JOKER!" Burt was very sadly underrated as an actor and a comic.
Kudos all around! Robin at his best ever...though you can that it's just their stunt doubles in the first shot of them climbing out of the gas. I also like the henchman at 2:18-2:21 with the hat over his eyes, who says, "We owe it to the criminal WOILD!"
This was the very first episode I saw as a kid. About 35 years ago. Now I'm feeling old.
