  • When I've done this I put a last layer of polymer over the top as a sealant. I've done it on cavas but never thought of just using paper that seems to be a cool way to go and then of course using it in a bigger art piece/collage. Hmmm brain is now thinking of something to work on :)

  • Gary I've been watching your videos for hours, it's 1am here and I have work early tomorrow, but i just can't stop watching. Thanks a million for sharing your skills! you're a tremendous help!

  • is he useing oil color ?!

  • i would like to see in a larger scale,, nice job

  • That's rad, yo.

It came out so well after you sanded it.

  • who sings the song in the background, at the end is the title Shine your light...

  • I love mixed medium ; Thanks so much!!!

  • Can you use this method also on plexiglas with the tillyputty?

  • Love your videos. Good instructor.

  • This would be really interesting to do with a piece of furniture!

  • Pretty Cool! :)

  • I tried thick gesso ... didn't work for me. I used fine sandpaper (150 grit), maybe that's why it didn't work.

    Nola

  • I don't think thick gesso would work Nola and i use really fine sand paper..im not sure what grit it is because ive looked on the packet and seems to be graded different here all it i says is fine and p180 but basically it is the finest paper i can get.

  • Gary, what drit sandpaper do you use?

    Nola

  • Tiling putty ... I wonder if that's like joint compound. I really like the effect! I might try thick gesso and see if it works. Great video Gary, lots of step by step how-to. Thank you for sharing.

    Nola

  • Not sure if joint compound will work either as it might be too flexible almost like a rubbery texture when dried and unfortunately that won't work...whereas tiling putty(the stuff u use to apply tiles to a wall) seem to be more chalky in texture and therefore sands away easily!

  • CAN u use plaster of paris ... and do u have to prime the canvas first before applying it as it fell off mine... any advice

  • I have enjoyed this video very much, I am into cardmaking and always on the lookout for interesting background

  • just wondering is tiling putty the glue that sticks the tiles on or the grout that goes between the cracks?

  • Oh look, there's the "blow dryer" again. LOL. (j/k) I'm impatient about my work also. You have really inspired me to open up the possibility of using other things other than paint to make art. Now I just need some time to put these ideas to use. I will share them with you for input and critique if you don't mind. Thanks.

  • You are so innovative -- it's fantastic to see where your brain goes (your right brain:-) Thanks for the tute.

  • yes does it work as well on canvas? is it harder to sand down.

  • Yes it works just as well on canvas and i have used it both for small to large canvas...obviously you just have to be more careful when it comes to transporting the work. Sanding is not a problem just have to be a little more careful i guess than when u can apply all your force on paper.

  • do u have to prime the canvas as mine fell off

  • is tiling putty a bit like gesso? cheaper I guess.I really like this effect. I am doing layering at the moment with paint and black japan then spraying with turps...getting some cool efects.

  • Tiling putty is much thicker but i am sure you could use gesso as a substitute...all though i have never tried it!

  • does the tiling putty have an effect or a smoke or something. can one get high from the toxins?

  • LOL well there is not much smell but hey...if your worried about the toxins you can either get a mask or you can just let each layer dry naturally...i am just impatient!

  • Yay! New video!

  • Nice. I love the way they turned out. Is the work sort of a surprise to you at the end? Or do you always know what it will look like once it's sanded? I was going to ask you if you ever used canvas for this tecnique but you said at the end you did. Was that canvas board? I was thinking the canvas might sag after all that heavy sanding. What kind of paper is that? Is it heavy? Thanks! I learn so much from your videos. =D
