If I remember correctly, it will only annihilate when it comes in contact with its opposite matter partcle. However because of their opposite charges, they are attracted to each other, so annihilate quickly under normal conditions.

well the thing about antimatter is, that it is very fragile and you have to have to collide it with matter at near light speed for any kind of danger..hence hadron colider

I dont understand this whole thing really but i do like physics and i just dont get how they would control all of the gamma radiation thats flying out everywhere at the speed of light, if they were to make some sort of fusion reactor or create a way to use it practicaly. hey genius. the experiment is done in a vacuum chamber. we arent shooting a beam of antimatter, the antimatter forms atoms of positronium - from a bose-einstein condensate of positronium it is possible to collapse all of the atoms simultaneously and create a large coherent gamma ray pulse.

I do honestly want to learn, and BTW if this is done by collapsing atoms, its not antimatter.Antimatter is an atom that has its orbit reversed and when the atom meets an atom with the opposite orbit, they rip each other apart creating energy.
