@ronvnkl232 goldeneye 007 for the wii was remade by another company and it wasnt owned by rare. rare did make some good games with MS: conker live & reloaded (xbox), viva pinata (x360,pc), perfect dark zero (x360), kameo (x360), banjo kazooie N&B (x360), kinect sports (x360). they're not as good as the ones made with nintendo but they are still good games, MS needs to give more freedom to rare so that they can create new IPs.

I wouldn't say that Perfect Dark is too outdated. Later titles borrowed ideas from PD such as how Halo borrowed co-op campaign and how Left 4 Dead borrowed the campaign versus mode. The only things I can say PD is outdated in are graphics and the ability to pick up a seemingly infinite amount of weapons.
It's okay, it's not great. It doesn't have that magic the original N64 ver had. It's superior technically but it just doesn't feel right moving at 60fps. Some of the new character models look worse than before, and Joanna only has the one hairstyle in the new version, when she had 2 in the classic version. At least they had the sense to not mess with the game's music.

I like how he didn't even mention the NIntendo 64 in this review. There are tons of kids that have no idea what this game is and he couldn't give credit where credit is due. They did a great job with this game I wish they would do Golldeneye, and shadows of the Empire as well the same way, I must stress when I say Goldeneye I am not talking about some BS game with some BS actor (Daniel Craig, who wasn't even in the film Goldeneye).
But I noticed one difference in the XBLA Perect Dark, on the first level there are 2 guards you kill behind a barrier on one of the floors, on the N64 you can walk through the gap and pick up their guns, on the new version you can't .
He took off points for being outdated and for the voice acting? well no shit, they used the original voice acting. That was back when voice acting in games was almost unheard of.

I just got through completing Goldeneye 007 for my N64 completely (time trials included). I never actually got to play it a lot as I didn't own back in the day. And....well you just don't get that kinda fun from games any more...

The people who make games now must have the head down the pan while they are thinking about how to make them.

@64BitComms Perfect Dark 0 could have been a completely different game if it had another name, i mean, they totally changed Johanna Dark's style and "dark" design of the whole game, to be honest, they made it like a realistic cartoon (talking about the style).
at the time it was first released people said the gameplay beat that of even halflife. nowadays i think it can match up to mw2 in the gameplay department if not the graphics
I think I'll buy the console just for this. There is not a single game out there that is able to outperform Perfect Dark's genius level design, features and gunplay. Difficulty can be unbeatable without tactical thinking, or just run & gunning, or something in between. This game is perfect, and dark.

but multiplayer is also pretty important even though it doesnt have any leaderboards
when playing competitively online, you only use the balanced weapons, matchmaking settings are no fun and are unbalanced

It's nice that this guy didn't just go 'durr bad graphics make bad game', but I think the ribbing on the voice acting and humour was a bit misplaced.

I like how he didn't even mention the NIntendo 64 in this review. There are tons of kids that have no idea what this game is and he couldn't give credit where credit is due. They did a great job with this game I wish they would do Golldeneye, and shadows of the Empire as well the same way, I must stress when I say Goldeneye I am not talking about some BS game with some BS actor (Daniel Craig, who wasn't even in the film Goldeneye).
But I noticed one difference in the XBLA Perect Dark, on the first level there are 2 guards you kill behind a barrier on one of the floors, on the N64 you can walk through the gap and pick up their guns, on the new version you can't .

This game has been holding up for over 10 YEARS thats insane, its totally NOT dated, it released to being too ahead of its time, and that only cost it some framerate issues but it wasn't unplayable by any means!

I just got through completing Goldeneye 007 for my N64 completely (time trials included). I never actually got to play it a lot as I didn't own back in the day. And....well you just don't get that kinda fun from games any more...

@Astaticembrace I agree, I have an X box and a PS3, I tried newer games for them and I get very bored very quickly, the game I played the longest was Perfect dark XBLA, everything else is boring, and I end up using the X box mostly for HD DVD's anbd the PS3 for blu rays. I even tried gears of war when it came out, what a load of baloney compared to fun games Goldeneye and perfect dark. The people who make games now must have the head down the pan while they are thinking about how to make them.

@heythanksbutnothanks Yeah, but your missing the whole point that goldeneye and Dark were pioneers of fps, what game before them was even closely comparable? None, and thats why these games exceeded, but now things changed, and obviously people would rather have a game that plays like COD rather than a game that plays like perfect dark. Developers don't have their "head down the pan" they are just making games that the consumers want. I respect and understand your opinion, but it means nothing.

i just thing the elvis makeover looks HORID. other than that it looks great with the hi-resolution textures and smooth FPS! no more going down to10 FPS when i open a door with enemies behind it (or throwing 10 mines and setting them off all at once...)

@AngryCrowTakesFlight You must be REALLY young... actual full voice acting has only been around in games for a little over a decade, and they only started hiring serious voice talent in games in the early 2000's (rather than people around the office, which is what the actors in this game were).

@IwubMaiColettie I know, I was bought it the day it first came out, and the story is shit, utterly stupid, and the voice acting is terrible, but that's not a bad thing at all. There was a time when video games were allowed to be stupid, and it embraces that, and is why I love it. It's the gameplay that makes it, not to mention the awesome Joanna Dark, and the weapons, and level design.

I think I'll buy the console just for this. There is not a single game out there that is able to outperform Perfect Dark's genius level design, features and gunplay. Difficulty can be unbeatable without tactical thinking, or just run & gunning, or something in between. This game is perfect, and dark.
