Thanks for the info. I was really interested in seeing what the battle system was like since that kind of makes or breaks a game for me. But I did have one question. I noticed the 'health bars' at the right corner of the screen and what not. I was wondering rather then doing an attack or changing your weapon during a fight can you heal yourself/team mates? Or do you just go through a fight hoping you have enough health to last?
does anyone else realize that Leanne seems to shoot significantly less bullets per volley during hero action than the other guys? Vash and Zephyr seem to shoot around twice the amount, when using the same weapon
like at the beginning Leanne shot 2 shots with the 1191 and Zeph shot at least 4
Can someone tell me if you die in the game do you spawn with all your health like final fantasy 13??? Also, when you take damage in the combat your health bar turns slightly blue it seems...what is that supposed to mean?
i've never liked rpg's but this looks interesting. i just like the fact that you have freedom to move and jump. i don't like games like those old final fantasy games that you just stand still and choose to attack...
10+ hours into it and i must say its one of the best combat systems ive seen (took 5 hours to get the hang of but nowhere near mastering it) and so glad i got this over FFXIII
Does the transition between the different attack animation feel (or look) smooth?
I mean, looking at some gameplay videos it seems like the characters that are, for example, in a jump doing something and in the next animation they're in a complete different position-place
@MagicSunshine You trigger each attack that changes the camera angle, so while it may appear jarring to watch in a video, it didn't feel that way to me while I was playing it.
@0BlackDude0 The point is that it's an RPG for people who like the style of an action game. If it was just another TPS it wouldn't really be for the RPG audience.
@alfscali I couldn't 100% understand it in the time I played the game, but it seems like if all characters cross paths in a certain way, they deal extra damage.
@gameyayfun Was able to find a video on the tri-attack man the guy made it look simple but I'm having a hard time with the tri-attack. Need to try tonight after work. The combat system is truly unique for this game.
@alfscali If one character crosses between the two other characters during a Hero Action, they build a point of Resonance. Hitting the Tri-Attack button, then Start Heroic Action, allows you to use a Tri-Attack, which has all three characters running in a triangle between each other, their meters building simultaneously. When you attack, all three characters that have at least one level built will attack. Each character will move one "leg" of the triangle for every point of Resonance.
horray! I can go buy this game now! The battle system really had me on edge- wasnt sure if it was grid, or if I had to actually target something to shoot at it, or if I would be using menues. Thanks for explaining it- it the kind of system I know Ill enjoy, specially after finishing FF13. Ill be off to pick it RoF tomorrow!
Thank you man, i was wondering about how this combat system was. It's hard to find a gameplay video that actually EXPLAINS the system, so you know what your gettin into before you buy it. From how the game looked i thought it was all free roamin and real-time combat with guns, now i realize its pretty much a unique system, but standard rpg combat with the showy elements of a real time action game. Helps me towards my decision if i'll get this game or not.
tri-Ace didn't technically make Eternal Sonata, tri-Crescendo did. They were the sound designers for all of tri-Ace's games until they started making their own.
I don't know.. From this video it looks clunky and not fluid enough. I mean from attacks, one second your firing and doing a move the next second your jumping and firing again but you never see them hit the ground.. Kind of weird to me. Or was it just because your editing it like that??
You choose when to attack, so that's why it cuts mid-motion. You can make it look more fluid if you want, but then you're missing out on potential attacks.
Yeah i get that but if you can pause it during the fluid movement then i am fine but i just wouldn't want to watch the action as it cuts back and forward. A pause is fine with me but if it stops the fluid looking motion of the actions then i would be put off.
I like the take turn type games even when it is played like this i really like how this works but if it doesn't show my attack FULLY even when my character lands then that would look very strange.
When I found it, it was in the new releases section. It's not there any more. I checked the demos section, but didn't see it. Maybe they took it down.
So this game comes out in March and FFXIII... this game is good but not better than FFXIII there fore gonna get FFXIII first then this game can't wait! XD
tho the evading enemy attacks quickly while shooting looks epic...the whole thing boils down to a turn based simplistic 3rd person active camera angled shooter......meh it just LOOKS awesome but it really isn't tho...how dissapointing >.>
the game looks great, gameplay seems way too simplistic so far. um oddly enough my major dislike of it so far is that it looks way too ridiculous and thats coming from a DMC fan(the actions). i might get it if the reviews for it when it comes out are actually really really good.
I wish more game vids were like this, very useful, thank you. I'll add this game to my shopping list I think.

Huge basic tip:
1 : blue line pass the line of other2 member in party will get double (or X1.5) load speed
2 : begin with the MG main guy in mid go to left with the blue buff (try switch target when the HP is all blue)
3 : Turn 2 : use a HG user go to right and pick off mob with blue HP 1 shot dead
4 : Turn 3 : use triangel (if u have), switch to start off with MG guy first to deal most damage with load alot of ring
the rest is up to you, this just a guide how to start of best hope it's help

is the battle system kinda similar to Star Ocean? cause if it is, I'll so gonna get this one!

It's a bit more actiony (I know it's not a word) than Star Ocean, but I think if you dig Star Ocean's battle system, you'll enjoy Resonance of Fate.
