  • Oh. My. God! Pretty fucking awesome

  • my favourite

  • 7 dislikes? Are people nuts?

  • I agree w/you wildmandazza, I saw her that year in LA, I think it was actually in the 90's, but I hadn't seen this video in a while and I had chills, GOOD ONES, all the way down my arms up my neck, back and head.... LOL...

  • Never been a fan of "soul music", but Moyet can sing awesome!!!

  • WOW!!! what a voice!!

  • I'm not prepared to put Moyet's version above Redding's. But she's a fine artist with a superb voice for rock, pop and blues. She's never had a Sheena Easton physique, but was much more talented (and SEXIER) than Sheena.

I saw Moyet many times on American late-night television back in the 80s, and thought she was rather more talented and therefore more impressive than Kate Bush (flame me, Bush fans, at your pleasure:)). Sure hope Moyet is thriving nowadays:) --

  • try her version of " the first time" pure class

  • siempre ha sido una gran vocalista, grossa, olvidada por muchos pero sin igual.

  • what a voice, love her vocals...

  • Goosebumps!!!

  • Another woman who BLOWS ME AWAY Vocally.

  • Dear Alison, I loved your crazy lion hair. You are beautiful:-) your voice, your hair, your words:-) too!

  • Oh god the 80s. what a great decade....

  • Fuck she can SING!

  • Now there's a singer for you. They don't make them like that anymore.

  • The backing singer in white is perfect.

  • @jemb2000 I believe that it's Eddi Reader (Fairground Attraction) from Glasgow, Scotland.

  • @almac46 It is indeed. I was making a lame joke re their big hit :)

  • She is just gorgeous!

  • WOW! Great voice!

  • Those were the days is right !

I had a ball. Love Alison Moyet she is some singer.

  • I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the wonderful Eddi Reader on backing vocals! Yes really, check it out!

  • What a mezzo. Nothing to touch it.....

  • OMG! Alison's voice is so amazing. And I'm very jealous that dawidjordaan got to see Yaz in Chicago. I would have loved to have seen that concert. I wonder if they'll ever make it to Toronto? I saw Erasure a couple of times when Vince and Andy came here, and it was soooo good. But Alison is my fav!

  • Any idea when this was? When in 1987, I mean...

  • August 28, 1987

  • Wow! She's a great voice!

  • onealchris,

It was Otis Redding that did the original version of this song 3 years before I was born. (1963 I believe) Thanks for posting.

Cool cover of this song and someone who can sing in the same range as Otis. Cool!

  • Otis Redding's is probably the most famous but not the original version

  • There is a version of this song done in the 1940's but the lyrics are not the same despite the titles. Dad has that version on 78 rpm vinyl in the record cabinet. The 1960's version by Otis Redding is the original with THESE lyrics. Good spot.

  • Excellent performance. Stunning voice.

Wow, those were the days werent they?

  • Does anyone know what she's doing these days?

  • What she's doing is touring with a new album "The Turn", but more close by she has reunited with Vince Clark, her partner with YAZOO in the early eighties. They are touring the world including the US, check them out in Chicago or LA, New York!

  • I just came back from the Yaz (Yazoo) show in Chicago. It was incredible! She looks great, the stage setup was fantastic and the music took you all the way back to 1982. Absolutely awesome show.

  • Thanks for the info mate...

  • She's fucking brilliant. I just love her!!!

  • WOW! She has a beautiful voice. Very underrated singer.

  • I love seeing any videos of her and she looks good here. Glad to see recent videos of her too.

  • Why cant you make the screen the correcr resolution anymore, the new player sucks. Great video, love Alison's hair.

  • What a great video--I must have watched it dozens of times since it was posted--thanks.

  • brilliant

  • Hi there your name rings a bell" Bewitched" am i close, what a voice this lady has1

  • No. That would be, ""Agnes Moorehead"" with an E! =))

  • so sorry cookie thanks for correcting me!

  • During the 80`s the press asked for thin girls :(

Alison had one of the best voices during the 80´s. Already at this time you could see the start of body perfectness, that it had started. :(

I really hope that her voice took her to the maximun anyway!...still love here voice and aura!

    Brgds

    Miss the 80`s....

    :(

  • No one seemed to understand that it was because of her body shape that her voice was so powerful - not in spite of it.

  • hey this is great im so impressed!! only women in the world who could perform this song

  • Extremely talented person, a singer's singer - but she does her own stuff better actually.

I like to think that on my good days, I actually manage to sing a Yaz tune about half as well as she does - damn hard to do.

The ultimate workout? "Midnight" first record.

  • I can never get over her voice. She really does have the greatest voice that a woman has ever had.

  • She's the fuckin' BEST!!!

  • GREAT

  • WOW..............

  • My God.. I once had this performance recorded on a VHS tape which has long since disappeared.. never thought I'd see it again! Thanks!!

  • Had a crush on her since "Is This Love"

  • No, that's what the british tabloids are like. Her debut album was called "Alf" and I remember myself that the media jumped all over it (the red top papers) in typical "let's make some mad story out of something we don't know about in order that we all have jobs this time next month" fashion. She's just an Essex girl, they can sometimes be what we call 'geezer-birds'. That means women who seem to talk and act like men but on closer inspection are 100% sensual women. Not gay or anything :-)

  • No. She is, was, and allways will be 100% Woman.

  • Damn, that is a fine, fine version. I never knew she did it! What a girl!

  • What a voice. What a beautiful woman.

  • One songstress that can explode some mad pipes is Allison Moyer....She's Oooone baaaaaad Mama Jamma!!!White girl can sing, baby!!

  • Alf Rocks!

  • Almost the perfect woman. If only she didnt support Southend F.C. ;-)

  • Thank God for Allison. She is an inspiration to all those of us women with a "deep voice". Brilliant. I liken her to a bass version of Midler.

  • Im confused...Allison is such an amazing vocalist, Midler has a certain style, but a horrible voice.

  • what a voice!!

    britney sucks

  • true

  • I remember watching this show and I was awestruck.

I've never seen it again until tonight.

    Fantastic.

  • I absolutely adore Alison Moyet. But it still doesn't change the fact that this hair-do makes me think of 80's Ozzy Osbourne. I mean... watch the video for Shot In The Dark and you'll see what I mean!

  • Alison Moyet is one of my all time favs. Thanks for this clip!

  • love her

  • High Five to the poster! I love this woman and have never seen this performance. She does this Wilson Pickett song very well.

  • One of THE most under-rated and under-appreciated vocalists ever.

  • Agreed...most people are intimidated by that kind of power, passion, depth and soul. They want safe, cotton candy that doesn't make them think or feel...like...Britney Spears...the masses are asses.

    Alison, you are a goddess!

  • Sooooooooo true

  • Wonderful voice. Perhaps even up there with Dusty.....?

  • waaaaaaaaaay better than Dusty

  • That's a tough call, megerber! I love them both and could never rank one above the other. However, Alison is/was more of a babe! ;)

  • <3 <3 <3

    Love Her!

I've actually never seen this footage before.

    Thanks you for sharing!
