These codes are called One-time pad codes or Vernam cipher. They are unbreakable. The tune reminds me of a British TV Ad for fudge sticks. To this tune the ditty, "A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat." As of last night many of these stations were still broadcasting. I heard this on the 30m band.
is the linconshire poacher still broadcasting? i am about to get a hf set and have not heard this for years, i love the secret mysteriousness about all this anybody help me freqs times ect??
@gonepishing i think i like it cause its so creepy ... i think this is the closest im gonna get to doing things for the government...unless its ,"miss, put your hands on your head!"
@SargonAnkro It's a Message to Spies, they get a Sheet of Paper, and in between each number, theres one erased. So the Spy writes the letters broadcatsed inbetween the one he got, then he Translates it into "Real" Letters and He got the Message!
Pity the Poacher shut down. Its western Pacific sister station, Cherry Ripe, is still very much active though. I have a much clearer recording up here, check
Nice shot of the Yaesu and the DSP working to recieve this transmission. I was considering buying the Yaesu for EXACTLY this purpose! Do you reccomend it, and what antenna are you using? Cheers for posting...
Seeing as he hasen't replied to you I will put in my 5 cents worth. If you want to rx HF then dont get a VR5000 its very bad. Its inferior to everything in its price range. The only good thing to say about it is the bandscope. Using its dual receivers allows you to see the spectrum while tunning around and you can receive audio from any signal in the spectrum display by just tunning to it. Scope and rx at same time.. Very nice feature however the rest of the radio is BAD.
Thanks for your reply! I really need to do some research before I consider buying anything (I have no set up as yet!). I've been looking at the AOR 5000 but it seems they are not making them any more. Can you, or anyone else recommend a base scanner and antenna set up for Nottingham, England to recieve number stations and other interesting broadcasts? I would prefer a wide bandwidth, cheers.
I think its codes the government uses to secretly announce messages to secret agents/employees or whatever

@farty1000 I believe it has gone quiet. The job has been taken over by an Australian numbers station.

I think the beginning of the Broadcast was to fool people who were just passing by through the radio.

That repeating tune that plays at the start is insanely creepy...
GrazzaD 2 years ago 29
@GrazzaD It is the interval signal. It plays 12 times when a new transmission is beginning.
The song is the Lincolnshire Poacher, hence the station nickname.
