@dlespera hey man, i just got one of these off a job...i dont know anything about it and was wondering if you can help me? I record on 1/4 analog tape on a tascam 388...do you think this revox a77 is a good machine to master down to or should I get something else? when you say they were used in real studios, what were they used for? im trying to built an all analog home recording studio so im not sure wether to sell this revox or keep it
I have the HS version of this, with 7/12 and 15 ips, for some reason when i switch it to 15ips, it still going at 7/12 for some reason.... but its a great machine
I have one of these gathering dust in my garage. I'm not affraid of electronics, but don't know where to start sevicing it. I would also like to know how to make a remote for these if you have any idea. Thanks. Great little vid you made :-)
There's no way an A77 will keep running without replacing a lot of stuff. And that's a pity. They're not as reliable nowadays as they were in the early days.
I try to get them as cheap as possible. I've had over 200 reel to reel recorders in my life. Akai, Teac, Grundig, they all survive. It's always reVox that gives up :(.

There's a motor control print beneath the power supply, that might need some revision.

@m134mr It might be problem with speed switch, the speed control print board is probably ok. :-)

The B77 is indeed beautiful, but not one B77 ever got the sound of an A77 ;).

I dunno I still own a revox a77 all silver model a little older than this one. Bought it used in 1969 it still works.

That's probably an MK-II.
Keep it running, standing still is the worse you can do for these machines.
stijnkraft 3 years ago
If not the best revox machine ;).
Unfortunately, all reVoxes die where Akai and Teac keep going on and on and on :)

Really nice video! I still like the A77 - it´s in my opinion still one of the best ReVox machines!

What did you pay for them?
I try to get them as cheap as possible. I've had over 200 reel to reel recorders in my life. Akai, Teac, Grundig, they all survive. It's always reVox that gives up :(.
I payed 15 dollars for this one :D

You shouldn't buy one whitout checking first... these are often abused machines. No bad experiences here! I have 2 A77's that function well.

Thanks :). Wasn't that serious, but I'm glad it works for you!
