She was wrong in the beginning of the video. Alcatraz was a Military battery after the Mexican American war. Because of it's isolation and San Francisco bays strong currents. During the civil war the island was an ideal place to hold POWs from the south..

Damn Indians squatted there in 1969 for about 2 years and almost burned everything to the ground. Dumb asses No. the USA didn't take it from the Indians in the mid 1800's. It was acquired from Mexico after the Mexican American War.
