  • my recomendations was 20-30sec.. pr stretch, so in time 30-40 would be doable.. But then again never overdo anything, training nor stretching

  • Wrong! Holding stretches for longer than a few seconds triggers the 'stretch reflex'. This means you don't actually increase flexibility by holding stretches. Do stretches in multiples holding them only for 1-2 seconds at the limit of the stretch. Check out the Mattes method of stretching!

  • well it only triggers stretch reflex if reaching the stretch maximum. if you are able to back off and ease into the stretch not only are you doing a great "reset" to the muscle spindle fibers, but you are also able to get some myofascial release with some of the longer holds.

  • You are an idiot Daniel. Only a quick stretch stimulates muscle spindles and elicits the stretch reflex, as seen when you strike the patellar tendon with a reflex hammer. A slow stretch does not activate muscle spindles, though any stretch carried to end range stimulates golgi tendon organs and the muscle is prevented from stretching further via autogenic inhibition.
