Suki desu is roughly translated to "I like you." so its not as serious or romantic as "Aishiteru" which is used more romantically or seriously. So if ur only telling say a crush, u'd probably use "suki."

p.s. i'd advise not to use the term "jap". its short for japanese, but also can be an offensive term. sum take offense & sum dont.
