  • ALL WRONG !!!

"The first interactive entertainment experience on a computer", ok but NOT A VIDEOGAME.

Looks like MIT knows nothing about video technology, or lie to keep credit about it.

Another lie, it's not Steve Russel who built the joystick, it's Alan Kotok.

@pufixas there's no framerate. This not a video game because the Cathode ray tube used is not TV/video compatible (built to be used as analog oscilloscope)

  • the world owes these men so much. if it weren't for them, the whole concept of video games may have never even existed, and my entire childhood would have been empty and boring.

seriously, if i was steve russel, i would be the most arrogant fuck in the world, knowing that i had created the most awesome and influential form of entertainment to come from the 20th century.

  • Can anybody PLEASE tell me what documentary this is called? I'd really like to know, I'm fascinated with these older games.

    Thanks.

  • @JPhands I managed to find it, it's from the series the Rise of the Video Game, which you can find on YT.

  • "Spacewar!" rocks! It's aged so well, people are still doing freeware versions for modern systems.

  • you here that parents not are fault playing video games blame the military and airforce and him.

  • wow... 3:22 those graphics are INSANE!!! for its time! look! i has explosions! collors!!! VERY GOOD framerate!!!

  • Geez, and I thought PONG or Space Invaders was old!

  • what show was that from?

  • hmmm yes dutch

  • Comment removed

  • Dutch subtitles, Lucky me =D

  • and you are born from the asshole of your mother bitch you are a shit and your dad is a drugged fag like you

  • some of the rarest games of all time

  • this wouldnt even come close to making it on gamefaqs

  • aaahhhh ooooohhhh! Spacewar!

    awesome!

  • thats good graphics for first games ever

  • thanx for video gamez dude

  • Woot!

This Russell guy is a quite a character!

  • from spacewar to ps3 and co.

    amazing!

  • great vid

  • Wow, the first games had better graphics than a SNES!

  • yes, because the snes was made to make money xD

  • An SNES didn't cost $120,000

  • wait, i read that they disassembled this in 59'.

  • didnt oxo come out first? i might be wrong but i thought it came out first

  • Wow. Spacewar! looks better than many Atari 2600 games.

  • Does anyone have a link to this video without the subtitles?

  • Wow revolutionairy. Pong is still my fav stone age game. For me still Retro games > Today's games.

  • same

  • now these are games i would have LOVED to try out!

  • Click 5:00 over and over agian. The guy goes whoghe whonghe lol its so funny,

  • Hahahaha lol, that guy owns

  • weve been back many times. In a couple of years they are going to go back to the moon.

  • that'll be faked too

  • The older something gets, the less likely it is to have happened. I'm pretty sure WWI was a hoax at this point. Probably just a college student's silent film some historians found and misconstrued.

  • Amazing!

  • nintendo 4 ever!

  • the subtitles fucking suck

  • its dutch go figure

  • What an ending! "I RELEASED THE CURSE OF VIDEO GAMES APON THE WORLD!" I would have loved to meet him.

  • This is wrong. The first game ever was invented in 1947. Its called Missile Simulation.

  • oh no, the first video game was invented in 1629 by queen elizebeths doctors to cure bad humors, it was called "noggin bonk" and consisted of hitting each other on the head with big rocks until you see aliens ripping across the sky shitting comets out their ass.

  • hahahahahaha

  • @ gammainn

  • That is from the Discovery Channel series "The Rise of the Video Game."

  • wow, pretty good graphics and light effects for the first video game ever

  • actualy that's wrong. nintendo started in 1889

  • Yeah, but they didn't produce videogames back then. They started with playing cards.

  • yea i know. but not only cards.

    boardgames to.

  • Not only board games, either. Hotel and taxi services too.

  • the hotel was actually a 'love hotel', where you could rent rooms per hour. guess why it's called like that ;_)

  • yeah in fact the real mario and luigi were taxi drivers that could hook you up with a high quality hoe who called herself "princess." princesses' pimp was a really big guy with an ugly ass gorilla face and if you didn't pay he'd get real pissed and roll a barrel at you which would smash you dead unless you were able to jump it just in time or grab a nearby hammer and smash the pimp's barrell, earning 100 points and a free erotic massage with happy ending from "princess." true story.

  • so where did bowser come to play in this

  • As always, he was the boss behind it all.

  • EDIT: And you wouldn't have Nitendo without Atari and you wouldn't have Atari without Magnavox and you wouldn't have that without this.

  • well, yeah, thats all true up to magnavox, but magnavox would have been around with or without tennis for two.

  • And you wouldn't have Nitendo without Atar and you would have Atari without Magnavox and you wouldn't have that without this.

  • I live less than ten minutes away from where Tennis for Two was built.

  • Oxo is the first sorry

  • poor dog. those russian bastards!

  • "I unleashed the curse of video games upon the world"

    QFT

  • PONG??

  • Space War has cool graphics and no, this is not sarcastic, it and Tennis Programming have a distinctive look, maybe because of the machines they were created in.

  • came a long way from the bottom of Higgins Hill

  • Wow !, so Pong isn't the first videogame anymore?

  • Quite interesting. I've never seen these games in action before.

  • Nope. Also, Nolan Bushnell stole Pong from Ralph Baer.

  • Nolan Bushnell may have stolen the idea for Pong from Ralph Baer, but unlike Ralph. He saw the future of gaming and didn't try to go sell it to anyone. He made it happen himself. He also named the game Pong. Baer called it simply Tennis and his version didn't even keep score.

  • Nope...and yeh!..It depends...this is analogue..but PONG was a digital game

  • your a retard of course it isnt
