Therion has experienced far more success since their 95/96 transformation than they ever did as a straight up death metal band. you still have a few "purist" fans out there who won't listen to them after they changed styles though. it's like they just want a band to do the same thing for thirty years or something. i guess there's nothing wrong with that but i'm not in the group.

Selling out also requires the band to start sucking badly (see Metallica's "Load"). All of Therion's albums are genious in my opinion.

This isn't bad music by any standard, but to be perfectly honest, their skill and songwriting have improved quite a bit since the old days, which has nothing to do with the change in style. If they were to go back to death metal they'd be just as good as they are now, and better than they were in the early 90's. And for those who say that keyboards suck, there is actually a keyboard in THIS song, which you can hear best right at the end.

I agree. Keyboards often add a power that isn't present in many bands. I just think their later work just lacked. I mean listening to Stormblast by Dimmu Borgir (Blows their new crap out of the water) the keyboards on that album were necessary to make that album brilliant, albeit it's a bit cheesy at moments.
