fell in love properly at 21 and i used to take the train from leicester down to london and always had this song playing, all loved up. Now 73 sorry i mean 42 but feels like 73, still love to hear it. Brings back memories
Beautiful, poignant and heartfelt - I listened to this song non-stop when the album first came out... Rediscovered it in 2003, and it's now my favourite Terence Trent D'Arby song
@wrldtvlr2 Hardline is still one of my all time faves - 24 years later it still sounds timeless! :-) Are you based in the US? I wonder how his career fared in the US, coz in the UK he had four big hits, a top-selling debut album, an uber sellout first tour... and then he seemed to fade away after 1989...
Yes, he was well-received here in the US. He enjoyed success from "Hardline" with "Wishing Well", "If You Let Me Stay", and "Sign Your Name". I'm not sure if "Dance Little Sister" was released in the US, but it was hit among the kids at my school. :)
I don't know how he fared in terms of touring, but he did perform on "It's Showtime at the Apollo" at the famous theatre in Harlem. He sang "Who's Lovin' You" and one of his newer hits. (cont'd)
(cont'd)I remember him telling the audience something to the effect that it was like homecoming for him because he was born in Harlem, and he was moved to be performing on the stage of so many R&B legends.
After his release of "Delicate" from his sophomore album, he dropped out of heavy rotation from radio and MTV.
@wrldtvlr2 Delicate was from his 3rd album Symphony or Damn (1993). On that same album was She Kissed Me, a rocker which hit #5 on the Modern Rock charts. That was his highest chart since his debut. His sophomore album was Neither Fish Nor Flesh (1989) which fared well but commercially was a disappointment compared to the debut because of its ambitions.
fond memories of this.......back in 87 i had a girlfriend whos dad had a new 500 sel merc and we would borrow it and just cruise round...........cool times.
