ten four i hear ya buddy i have always wanted to build a 2wd truck for off road. we have done a few work trucks that were 2wd but just to help them out a bit. but hell if you can make it through the rubicon 2wd there is no need to swap in 4wd components
@firefarm376 ha well.. After I do the Rubicon, I want to swap it to 4x just to have a more capable truck that I will probably start trailering to trails..
@YamahaWR200 yea thats the damn truth about like people who think they need to go buy some 80000 dollar truck because they tow a jon boat twice a year. did you build you mean to build your ranger the way you have or did it kinda just happen
@firefarm376 Depends on what you mean.. I purposely built my ranger up to be off road 2wd. And my goal is to drive the Rubicon with no winching 2wd all the way. So I specifically had a locker and swampers and stuff in mind.. I will soon be putting a 4wd tranny and t-case in.. Then do one last suspension change and do it to it.. Then it will be as complete as it ever will be as a 2wd. Then after the Rubicon I am gonna convert it to 4wd with leafs or go all out with coilovers..
@YamahaWR200 thanks for posting videos like this i have an 87 f150 2wd that until i proved them wrong all my buddies swore it would get stuck, an i also have a 06 tundra 2wd that is great off road just sayin thanks for provin that 2wds are a force to be reckoned with
@firefarm376 ha ha No prob man. I have dealt with it as well for a long time. There are things that I can do in my truck that stock 4wd's can't do and people say it is easy because it looks easy with good tires and a locker. I think people just get into the mindset of 4wd or nothing when in reality, it is rare that people actually NEED 4wd. Most things can be done with picking a good line and throttle control..
i have a '98 2.5L 5spd ranger pretty much same as yours but mines a stepside, i was thinking on putting a lift in it, and some bigger tires, did you have any troubles with the body lift? i heard they can make problems ie, fuel filler neck, brake lines and wiring.
@GeARHeadranger88 I had MAJOR problems with it. But not with the body lift itself. I broke 2 cab bolts trying to get them out. They were just SOOOOOO tight.. But if you follow directions while doing it, it is VERY easy. Just make sure you don't try and cut corners and just follow the directions..
remove that front sway bar, with a locked rear axle it should have went right over the first time! you are to stiff up front! i have been trail riding on 4x4 trails for 9 years in a 2wd open diff truck, lighten spring rate, lighten front end, rear spring rate looks good! to tall in 2wd can loose traction on muddy arcs, run tall skinny tire up front get rid of those swampers up front
@jimmybajakit No the main problem is that I am running TWO coil spacers up front.. I am gonna change the front spring and put a longer one in.. That should fix most of my problems..
@YamahaWR200 I Thought it was a torsion ifs spacers definetly will screw it up, alot of jeep guys run those, raise that spring mount, and have deaver spring special coil it! they know fords pretty well
Got ya. Didnt see man ha but def seems like a good investment. I know they make more expensive lockers and,air lockers for a bit more abuse but I just wanted to ask in general if they worked. Herd from a couple people its wortgh it. So im def going to invest in some soon! Thanks again. For your truck the videos do its justice ha. Thanks again, built tough!!
Are lockers worth getting..herd they are...looks like they work well in your videos! Herd they help in mud and ruts and stuff...thanks man. Nice ford!
@Jten12 Thanks man. And if you read my comments to other people, I have said the best 2 investments for off roading have been tires and locker... And it honestly doesn't affect street manners except parking lot driving..
@Jten12 I bought a mini spool and it was only like $70 shipped and an hour install give or take.. Tires are THE BEST INVESTMENT.. Period.. But second place is the locker.. And at $70, it won't handle a ton of horsepower and abuse, but.. This is my DD and so I don't abuse it.. I do mild off roading and only hard core stuff in the forest if I am stuck somewhere and don't have a choice..
@shakenbaker100 Well I have slowly built it up.. Tires and the axle swap/regear have been the two most expensive things I think. Probably around 2k for the two of them and that is with screamin deals on both..
@shakenbaker100 No.. It doesn't do anything. I mean technically you lose some back pressure, but.. It is such a small amount, it really doesn't matter..
matt matt matt...... "my fender is hitting my bed as you could HERE in part of the vid." where has your spelling gone my friend? i can understand a typo, but not a homonym typo.... tsk tsk
@kwoltersdorf oh man. That is brutal.. I have been doing that lately and i don't know why. I think it is cause i am spaced out and not thinking about what i type. But I have been catching myself doing that lately. Honestly it just makes me look dumb... ha ha
man i have a food ranger just like that one its a 2000 ford ranger 2wd and mine cant do that, one time at school it got stuck and some of thoses kids that like to go mudding in their trucks pulled it out.
just get a 4x4
