  • the thing I don't get is when someone plays a song different they are like "man its not good man, it doesn't sound exactly like it". But really any pro guitarist will say no don't play it exactly like them there is no point in doing that you can never play it as good as them playing just like them. You have to incorporate your own style in the song. I change everything I play, not a whole bunch but I change parts to my style.

  • great ...even with the" see how I play well part"...yes I am a purist... but this is still great. But damn steve, grab a strat, this guitar with pedals all over sound like a toy!!!

  • That's the first time I have heard Vai sing. He is very good at that too. A note to the editor: stop with all the artsie blurring of the closeups! Just show the fucking thing. This isn't an A/V class project.

  • @snakelings, yea but he made those songs better, this version sucks hairy-assholes. Songs can use a jimi hendrix vibe, vai vibe doesn't work with this song.... agree?

  • All you Hendrix groupies make me laugh. Sucking Hendrix's dick and don't know a fucking thing about him. Put your pants back on whores.

  • thee most original cover of little wing! agree with me? thumbs up!

  • yea he's playing a jimi song in the style of steve vai. but in comparison to jimi's song it sucks, so my question for him changing it up so much is... why??

  • @mastertwig0 For the same reason Hendrix changed up Hey Joe when he covered it, All Along the watch tower when he covered that and for the same reason Hendrix used Cocaine Blues for Purple Haze and changed that up too. Or for the dozens of other songs Hendrix covered that sounded nothing like the original.

  • Nice beginning, crappy solo

  • Steve vai, sempre una garanzia....quasi il più grande, meglio di lui solo Shawn Lane.....

  • paul gilbert does it justice.. this guy here shoulda been booed off the stage

  • no matter what you say, i still say this really stunk

  • depois do jimi pra mim o melhor VAI!!!

  • a great musician !!! a good version in a good mood !!! that's all!

  • just fucking WOW

  • very nicely done man ! my fav song and u did it justis <3

  • vai es un gran guitarrista transmite sensaciones con su guitarra excelente :)

  • Vai is the best guitarist alive in the fucking planet!

  • Criticising because he's a guitar virtuoso? Damn...

  • this "emotion" you blues lovers have created to delude yourselves of how Anti-Technical, and Non theory knowing, Non music reading is just laughable. you can play the minor pentatonic scale and bend a few notes with a funny face, "emotion" And go and say people who've been hand picked by pure geniuses like Zappa, In Their first year of World knowing Berklee, say Steve vai has nothing to offer, well I say you offer everything 90% of guitarist today offer, One note bend with silly faces.

  • If u dont like this u clearly dont know what music is about

  • Pueden hacer un cover mejor? No

Pueden tocar mejor que Vai? No

Pueden hacer siquiera unos cuantos de sus licks? Posiblemente No

    ENTONCES NO CRITIQUEN

  • its funny how people are criticizing steve vai! lol this guys is a guitar god for real guitarists and musicians. if you like lil wayne or bands like simple plan and you are complaining about this cover just get the fuck out of here you are musically ignorant and should educate yourself in the language of music!

  • @elspiclatino don't you love it when some pin head comes here are critques one of the top 3 or 4 greatest guitar players alive

  • I like steve vai in virtuoso....so if he (try) plays blues..I cant feel it..sorry,I just try to be honest..

  • I like Steve Vai, but this is absolute garbage. It has absolutely zero feel, or connection to what this song or Hendrix were about. If you want to listen to someone who does this song justice, and puts there own mark on it; listen to Jeff Beck's version.

  • Comment removed

  • It's very well played, from a technical viewpoint....but has far too much delay on it. I prefer Hendrix's original, and EVEN Aziz Ibrahim's 1998 version with Stones' Roses frontman Ian Brown moaning through it like a harpooned wilderbeast.

  • this song is a love song. so if you play a guitar solo then play it if you should do a play a solo in the spirit of the song. and not a show off. sorry guys, steve vai doens't understand anything, just want to shred shred if he get the chance.

  • Steve, please, dont sing. thank you. just play that guitar!

  • @zhyLTU hahahaha

  • The performance of this by Vai, Satch , and Malmsteen is still the best I've seen from Vai on it. I like this one too but wish he had less delay volume.

  • I just think it's beautiful ...

  • he could without the skirt thing though ,_____,

  • holy shit!! winn!!

  • was not cool this a lot of delay thatsteve puts on guitar

  • Obviously 95 persons might think that Steve's voice isn't good enough...

Yeah... compare to Mariah Carey perhaps...

Come on!!! He's a guitar player dude... not a singer!

  • Classic song played by a classic player. Thank you Jimi and thank you Steve for keeping it alive.

  • u can never make judgment to ppls ' play,, its like a color,, u cant say yellow is better then green or etc,,,but it legal for u to say i like green more than yellow, or vs versa.. it is like choosing flavour buyinbg Ice cream, u cant say vanilla is beeter then chocolate.. but u can say I prefer vanilla... guitar playing involves a lot of factors,,, personality, taste, mood, beside all the skills,,,, I hope you understand,, i been playing for 20 years,, at least thats a conclusion after 20 years

  • He played well, but in my opinion, he should have played without delay

  • Sweet ,vai does the song justice

  • I LOVE THAT SOUND ... such an amazing setting

  • At least Jimi didn't look gay...

  • @Dns2080 In what way does Vai look gay? That wind effect may be silly but he looks like good-looking human being (no homo).

  • @GoodGuitarSolos : I agree. what straight man doesn't wear a dress, glitter and eye makeup? I don't give a crap what he looks like, but are you blind?

  • @rmed30 So that makes him "gay"? What the fuck does it matter? If that is the case, those guys from Mötley Crüe, Poison, Whitesnake and all that were gay too, yet scored more women than all of us combined.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos : Take it easy man. I didn't say he was gay. And I agree that the least laid member of Crue plowed more women in a week than I will in a lifetime. You said "In what way does Vai LOOK gay?" And I responded. And yes by logic everybody in Poison looked like faggots.

  • @rmed30 I'm not a fan of Poison, if you think so. They were just really good examples.

Fair enough. The wind effect is pretty hilarious, gotta admit that.

  • Please make sure that I have a fan blowing on my hair for the concert and that my drummer looks like a guy who just came from a queer eye for a straight guy.

  • i agree with novaationband guy

try frank marino mahogany rush. he I think comes the closest to the ideas that jimi was trying to share with us all

  • I dunno, I think it's a brilliant interpretation. Vai could have reproduced the entire piece exactly like the original, but because he has this ability, he interpreted it as an artist should. He's not a studio musician but a creative one. And as far as having no emotion? Please. If anyone thinks that should check themselves for a pulse.

  • most of haters post here trying to be skeptical about Steve's kind of guitar playing, but obviously you think like that because you are not even close to play like this, or you are not even guitar players, in fact, i bet most of you are not even musicians, theres no competition between jimi Hendrix and modern guitarists, and also there's no comparison, different ages, you cannot talk about soul just because a guitar is too skilled for your ears.

  • Worth comparing this to Jimi's Albert Hall footage (Daressi post) - delay plus hair fan (?) yields a pale imitation of the original

  • the "nice dress fag" comment was the best part of coming to this page

  • Why is he wearing a skirt?

  • @nickersthekid because he is rocking it!!! =)

  • all the delay kind of killed it for me

  • vai you stupid fuck!

I always disliked the dude, now ive got one more reason

  • Fucking fags, whats the point of doing cover the same as original? Vai did it his own style and he did it great.

  • disappointing.

  • bullshit

  • Bunch of idiots criticising Vai.

He's playing it how he knows best, doesnt need you people telling him what to do.

Have you forgotten what musics about...it starts getting inspired from people and showing your own way of doing things...stop all this talking when you cant even get on a bloody instrument!

  • Er, music is not a competition.

It has to change or we would all still be beating logs with sticks

If you don't like Steve Vai, don't watch his videos.

  • @Hypogeal1 well said

  • Horrid - once the sterility becomes impossible to ignore, he wraps his arm over his head like an acrobat monkey-boy and resorts to the same old tired trickery that you hear every time he plays a lead - he should throw that guitar down violently like he did when Ralph Machio kicked his ass in Crossroads. FAIL

  • three things:

    -good quality vid

    -good quality music

-i wish he died at 28.

    -HIS HANDS ARE FUCKIN MASSIVE!

  • watch metallica 89 seattle solo at about 3:00 Kirk does it right =)

  • I think its hilarious how all you faggots try to crap on Vai for this. Here it is simply so all of you can understand it are you all ready? this is "Steves tribute" to Jimi and he out his own twist on it < that was simple right? dont crap on his tribute jimi would probably poke you in the eye for that hahaha

  • This is slightly more awful than SRV's Little Wing.

  • usually i am disgusted by the fact that most modern pop stars can't even play an instrument, but after seeing this i am glad they can't. instrument or no instrument i hate fucks like this who have become famous - the only real talent they have is to butcher music. steve vai can go suck justin beiber's dick, that gay ass fan might help to keep his hair out of his mouth while he does it

  • jimi hendrix version is better... he has more feelin...

  • @Dante95devil that's no version, that's the original song.

  • @11caulfield i know, but i'm italian and i can't speake english very well.

  • I'm a big jazz guitar fan (Metheny, Scofield, Stern, Stanley Jordan, etc) but I've listened to a lot of SRV (who's amazingly talented) and will now turn up some Hendrix & check it out. But this guy simply sucks. Clearly he has chops (but he'd be spanked hard if any of those jazz guys showed up), but they sure aren't being put to any useful purpose here. No musical content whatsoever. And what's up with the gay costume & hair? A previous commenter said it best: this is blasphemy.

  • i agree with Novationband .. jimi had soo much emotion in his music ... its truely amazing .. jimi hendrix the god of guitar

  • I could even excuse him for all that shitty shredding onto such a good piece of music, but the fan between the amps...

  • My God, I could even excuse him for all that shitty shredding onto such a good piece of music, but the fan between the amps...

  • only one who is close to Jimi Hendrix is John Fruschante from RHCP... upss he is not in RHCP now ! ! !

  • I guess that proper word is "overplaying". Such a shame, though I truly admire Steve's abilities...

  • dont know who is thise bro playing jimi hendrixs cover but he looks cool

    and all of shut up

    think u can play batter

    go ahead

  • @uzidabach

At least when I play I don't sound like a fucking dick head. Technical skill with zero emotion (and don't bullshit me that his tone = emotion) doesn't make a good guitarist. Vai sucks the cock.

  • @uzidabach Agreed

  • This is similar to watching someone materbate.

  • @Devinw9

    LOL true story.

Am I the only one who notices that he has a fucking fan so that his hair looks epic and he can look more like a model?

  • its fascinating how this guy think hes cool ! But hes not He looks gay and got a bad clean sound ! And try to much to the song his way it sucks !

  • The "fans" waving lighters were actually arsonists on day release. You can see how the audience were frantically trying to blow the flames out... At least thats the only feasible explanation for his billowing girls hair.

  • Steve,

When you play Little Wing, no one cares how fast you can do hammer ons and pull offs. More importantly, don't every play this song again wearing see through mesh

  • Cunt!

  • this guy is a God,all the deaf fuckers should just zip it!!!!

  • Jesus Christ PEOPLE ! I should even call you people, if you were real Jimi fans you would understand how great this is. But your just mainstream and cant understand it. Don't like this? Don't watch it. There are called VERSIONS of songs get that though your thick heads people..

  • pathetic. absolutely awful. Cracker wind bag... like every part of it is the worst shit i've ever heard. every part is more soulless than the last. and yes, 10 trillion notes in the solo was un necessary and gross.. fuck steve vai.

  • Shit has never been so incredible

  • @cctvnordost

    Incredibly shit.

  • How dare he F**K up such a beautiful song.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should Steve Vai

Less is often more in music

  • That was a fucking discrace...he pretty much took a shit on Jimi Hendrix's masterpiece wtf was that, playing 10000 fucking notes to little wing

  • that was ruined by a creepy man showing off

  • steves all about show jimis all about music

  • utter pish. would rather be a herd of horses cum sponge, than have to listen to this shit again.

  • steve vai is really good, this is no wonder he is a friend on tendures dream myspace, tendures dream cd its your life , it is also has jimi hendrix drummer , late mitch , and bass billy cox. i would love to see steve vai and tendure dream play together

  • we know you play very well and very fast and bla bla bla ... but before doing a cover of little wing ... look at you a few times a cover of stevei ray vaughan ... for me this is a real shit ...

  • Where is the inspiration in this?

Music isn't technique. This is really bad.

Hendrix was always inspire when he played, but this guy...

How could he plays this in front of a crowd?

  • I think the wind on his hair feeds his ego. There's not a single video of him without artificial wind on his hair

  • Fuck you all! Steve is an incredible guitarist, damn good for him for bringing his style to an already beautiful song.

  • To appear more notes per second he added echoes. No, thanks ! And i mean...no thanks !

  • Amazing cover!!!!! I dont need to compare Jimmy Hendrix to SV.......Its just a great song that had a major influence on his life.

  • Moronic and artificialized.

  • @nuclear944 in what way is this moronic?

  • I don't understand what's up with you speed haters. I can understand speed with no feeling, but you can't play a song like Little Wing without showing feeling.

  • @holycombat

This is proof that you can dick head.

  • @figaz555 Whatever. I don't like Steve Vai anymore than the next guy, but speed =/= lack of emotion.

Though I should have known better than to question fagazz555, that self-righteous despot, because only his opinions on music theory matter. Question his rule, and be sentenced to 'being called a dick head'.

Here a few constructive criticisms to help you become a better person:

1 - Be tolerant of other people's opinions.

    2 - Use commas.

3 - Use better insults than 'dickhead'.

  • @holycombat

I do use commas? And by the way, you suck the dick.

  • @figaz555 He sucks "the dick"? Is there one large collective dick I should know about?

PS: I'm in holycombat's band, feel free to find us on Facebook. Triforce of Rythm mother fucker!

  • @PwnageGravy

Yes it is the proverbial dick that you suck.

  • @figaz555 Really? (<--- That's correct usage of a question mark, by the way)

I see you spent English class thinking about lame comebacks and dicks instead of proper grammar. Since you have a limited vocabulary (consisting mostly of "dick") I guess I'll have to translate your comment:

Thank you very much for the tip, I will use commas in the future and use it to pass 1st grade English. I take this opportunity to further project my interests on to you by saying: "I orally pleasure 'the penis' ".

  • @holycombat

Your highly malicious comments have forced me to retaliate in a rude manner. Go fuck yourself you pretentious cock sucker.

  • @figaz555 Just what the hell on this earth did I do to deserve your shitty feedback? I didn't realize passively stating my opinions on youtube was considered malicious. You're the one who came in spewing 'dicks' from your mouth as every other word, I'd consider THAT malicious. I don't recommend hypocrisy for insulting people.

If you mean "Go fuck yourself" as in "Go Jack-off", then how is that a bad thing? Also, your "dick" insults are losing heat because you've already said it like 40 times.

  • @holycombat

    You have a poo head.

  • @figaz555 There you go! I leave you in peace.

  • this is not bad but isnt good aswell its just vai /facepalm

  • He's got talent & a great voice......anyone who puts him down should grab a guitar & see what everyone thinks about you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the fan that blows his stupid woman hair honestly pisses me the fuck off.

  • and cue windmachine...

  • Only thing more souless and borin than justin fuckin bieber

  • your my idol...... steave vai..........

  • fucking poser

  • Steve can really play this sounds toatally awsome!

    LONG LIVE JIMI HENDRIX!!!

  • Little wing is no place for bullshit 80's metal tone and million-mile-an-hour shredding. Vai may be fast, but there's no real emotion there. Steve Vai is just another 80's "prodigy" who can exemplifies why Hendrix truly was the best. Hendrix put his heart and soul into his playing, this is just delay drenched garbage. It's a shame really. Only SRV ever came close to matching strength of the original, but no one can actually attain the level of power and emotion that Jimi had over music.

  • @Novationband fucking agreed

  • @Novationband 15 years old and already entrenched in bull shit .listen.and really do listen to me. i assume you play ? you cut yourself of from any style of playing and all you do is set limits to you as a player .i did it with blues and regretted it for years .dont do it to yourself .dont get into this thats just speed and thats just that .if you dont understand something you don't have to hit with stick.open your mind .that you dont get it dont make it what you think it is.

  • @MUDSHARK111 I can tell that you have experience as a player and that you are only trying to keep me from limiting myself, but I don't only listen and focus on a single genre or player. I'm influenced from a ton of genres, jazz, blues, punk, classic rock, funk, alternative, etc., and I'm not closed off to new things. I just dislike what he did to this classic song. he took a very simplistic and beautiful solo and drenched it in delay and speed. I know what you're getting at, i just dislike vai.

  • @Novationband good .its ok to dislike steve .as long as you keep an open mind about music in generally .you seem to have it under countrol .all the best .

  • @Novationband I don't completely agree. You can shred at a million miles an hour on Little Wing- but you have to do it with SOUL, with EMOTION- not like this. This is like... Blasphemy

  • @Novationband you're defenitely right. i also thing clapton did well by making totally his own version with the dominos, playing it as a tribute a few days after hendrix passed. this is dogshit

  • @Novationband couldn't agree more - the tone matches the playing : sterile

Search Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing (Live in London) to see it done right.

  • @Novationband so very well said brother, much respect!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Novationband I dont agree so much with you. Notice there are very good guitar players today, Vai is one of them, you must understand that when SRV and Hendrix played was much less offer - effects and stuff, Some 80's guitar players try to be different. But still today we have jonh5 he keep the gear very simple and it is an amazing player. About the passion, one of the best guitar player ever, Petrucci I believe he plays with soul but if you look at him he seems like a ice block no emotions...

  • @Novationband trueeeeeeee!!! =) ... i hate the guitar tone of this guy...

  • @Novationband......Did you actually watch the video or were you blinded by ignorance?

  • @guycornwall Believe me, i watched it, though i really wish i didn't.

  • @Novationband.....Dude, why? No emotion? Really? Music is for fun, and Vai is having fun. So who are you tell him that his cover isn't good enough to compare with Jimi? Hmm? Music isn't about comparing who is the better player. Or faster player. It's about opinion. And in my opinion I love this cover. So what if you don't?

  • @guycornwall I respect your opinion, I just cant stand steve vai. Just my opinion.

  • @Novationband....That's fair enough, My Brother can't stand him either. I get used to it all the time.

  • @Novationband you are right about the power part of your last statement , but you cannot measure one's emotion , im sorry , in my opinion whenever stevie played , he plays just as emotional as jimi or even more

  • @Novationband He's not trying to out do Hendrix or anything like that, he is a massive Hendrix fan and he's just playing a song he loves. Everything is made a competition on here by the hypocrites that argue that it's all about "emotion", Vai is paying tribute to one of his favourite guitarists, if that doesn't constitute as emotion then fuck knows what does

  • @Novationband are you here to judge, or to listen, cause your just a critic, not a consumer, people who listen and just go with it and theres you. professor music

  • More delay please, I actually wondered if I had two windows running with the same video. Also anyone who shreds knows nothing about music. (IMO)

  • Nice dress fag.

  • @aaronprimelane well said

  • Steve Vai is what he is. He's a self indulgent dude who does what he wants on stage and plays fast when he wants. I mean there are people who like it and people who don't. He is not an uncontrollable shredder who can't stop. He's not Yngwie Malmsteen. He can slow down enough to find a melody usually.

  • So gay.

  • This is a really pretty rendition of Little Wing....the guitar part at least

  • It wasn't bad.. People came to a Steve Vai concert to hear Steve Vai, not a Hendrix imitation.. He played the song but put his personal touch on it.. Now im not a big Vai fan myself, but I can recognize good guitar playing and talent, and Vai has that.. I think he is a bit over rated, however.

  • he obviously reads more cosmopolitan magazine than music theory

  • rubbish

  • This guy grooves less than an oyster on ketamine.

PS: Nice cute wind in his princess hair, i've been waiting for the pink magic pony all the tracks but he did not came. :(

  • Really good voice.

  • Lol @ everyone critizising a guitarplayer that is known as one of the best guitarplayers arround. Keep on ''shreddin''' In your little bedrooms guys.

  • My god. If Jimi was alive he would kick him so hard up the arse he would never play guitar again. I wonder if Mr Steve could do all that shredding on a strat with heavy gauge strings and not weedy gauge 7s. What a cock. His solo sounds like a fly humming the solo while on acid. Buzzy buzzy steve.

  • Great version !!!

  • wow there is alot of negative comments. I for one liked it.

    i liked the solo especially!

  • This is the ultimate proof that guitar virtuosity + long hair + black dresses = uber douchebag... somebody should cut his hands off... don't ever mess with hendrix again...

  • I dont really like his style. Jimi is so much better I mean not even compareable with really anyone.

  • what a tool
