my condolences Isn't it wonderful that we have such beautiful music to enjoy and remember our loved ones by? i miss my childhood days when things were so much more simpler, music had a meaning, and people were good at heart. I often tell my children I wish they had a chance to grow up then instead of know in times of turmoil and uncertainty but they truly love listening to moms oldies!!!
This song is for those of us who takes for granted the people in our lives , spouse parents ,friends enjoy them time is precious you never know how long you have with them . T o my husband who left 3 month ago because he needed time on his own . I love you
I think about my dear mother every time I hear this song. She was so sweet and good but she has lived a hard hard life. When she dies I think I am going to think about this song and weep.
@lisak7894 Tell your mum you love her. I lost my mum when I was 38. 17 long years have passed and the loss only seem to get deeper. I do weep at this song, for my father, younger brother and twin brother who have all passes away so many years ago.
Oh Gosh, this makes the hair on my arms stand up. You see I was born 20 years to the day that my aunt CathyJo died as an infant on April 22nd 1968 and this was number one when she died. :'(
I remember this song when I was a child, but just found out it was the number one song when I was born. Sweet, sorrowful, and yet still a wonderful song.
I grew up listening to this music every friday while my parents got drunker then hell, but this music always relaxed me and helped me sleep. Very powerful song I can tell you.
Sad memories and mixed emotions are ragging in my head as i'm listening to this song. This song was a fav of mine n my highschool honey. senior yr was loads of fun til her family abruptly moved across country. I joined the military after highschool n was sent to the jungle of hell to find someone named charlie, came home without my soul to find out I was'nt welcome home. went to find my highschool honey n was told in the spring of 1971 she went away, sadly she took her life..freedom is not free.
Back around 1969,my best friend, Goldsboro, was his favorite singer and this song, he died, I cried. Lost my Mom, heard this song, I cried. Heard this song today, didn't cried, think I replaced the sad feeling with good positive feeling of the 'good old days'.
I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like without my darling wife of 30 yrs...to read some of the comments of those who have lost their loved ones while hearing this song have made my eyes well up in tears...sheesh.
Thanks for that, I moved on but it's tough. every time I look at my Daughters and they're kids I see they're Mother in them. they're so much like her, and I warned they're husbands what to watch out for.
This hit by Bobby Goldsboro was the 104th #1 song on what is now the Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #1 on the Top 40, Country & Western, Canadian AC and Canadian Top 40. His biggest hit. That is a fact, not my opinion.

this is hard to listen to sometimes, my wife of 20 yrs passed while I held her hand, it was one of the hardest things to do say good bye and let her go. I know that we will see each other again on the other side. but even after8 yrs it still hurts.
My whole heart & soul go out to you my friend. It seems to never stop hurting. I will close with I hope you have good memories. Sadly missed, but fondly remembered!

Yup, this song was #1 when I was born, too. Sorry for all the folks with memories attached to this one but, I think it's a steaming pile of dreck and I don't believe one single word of it...sappy dreck meant to tug on the heartstrings but, none of it does. I've always loved this song and I can see why people love it and why it makes them sad and think about lost loved ones. The posts make me more sad than the song!!!
71holtmichael! Bro, that is very sad. Sorry you're havin' to go through something like that. Was making myself a 70's CD(just trying to remember some of my favs), n came across your post. Hang in there. Your wife would want you to remember the good times you both shared. Listen to Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows". If she was your "Rosemary", will pick you up! Peace out my friend!
I have always loved this artist and the song....he does another one that is a happy song you should hear....not too well known....A Butterfly for Bucky
my wife died on 14th March 1977, 14 days before her 30th birthday. I was away at work when I got a phone call to say she had died in an accident. This song and of course our daughter, who was 8 months old when she died remind me of her every day. Life goes on but the whole in your life never really gets filled. I am sorry for your loss and can not offer you great words of comfort other than a stranger saying they are thinking of you
This song reminds my of my x-wife ..I was at Fort Dix NJ when I first heard it. 5:Am and I missed her and loved her with all my heart. She left me after 27 yrs of marriage and some things will never change. Yes, I am still in love with her and the memories are haunting at times but yet I even love what I have left....even though they are just memories. matt65482000 1 year ago 23
@nostaw38 ...Such a sad thing to happen to you...may God bless you...this song has been with me my whole life...My sister was 6 months old and i was 2and a half when we lost our mom who was 19 at the time...that was 47 years ago.....this song was it for me....hang in there....hugs xo
1969, I was 14, at my grandmas with family was listing to this on a 45 phone rang my oldest brother had been shot, he was 15, out hunting with cousin loved this song but now when i here it i go back to that day.
My daddy's favorite song too back then. It was so sad, yet he loved it. I miss this music. Thank you YouTube and channel makers for letting us all see these things again. Memories that might have been lost are found. :)
Poignant, tragic, beautiful! And relevant . You see, my Honey , the sweet, tender , sensitive lady I married 40 years ago, has advanced Alzheimer's Disease. One day in the not too distant future, the angels will come for her, and my life will be an empty stage where Honey lived and Honey played.Until then, I cherish the lovely memories that are still being made.
its amazing how the music as changed over the years but how i find my self still loving songs more like this rather than the modern rubish of the youth of today plus i must say i dont even understand what their songs is trying to relate too but this song relates to must of us in one or another thinking loved ones and people we miss
My Wife died on Jan. 9, 2010 and I all most lost my mind the first 12 months. It is comming up on two years now. I hurt but she would want me to go on and that is what I do one day at a time. I think of her every day (I loved Karen So) michael@mwhsite.com
@71holtmichael thats sad for you ,i am losing my mind with the loss of Penny, the greatest love of my life thus far,but yes its an empty life, but you just have to keep going, for what i dont know,
@71holtmichael Your story brings tears to my eyes. I am ever so sorry that you have lost your beloved soul-mate. I honestly believe that she wants you to go on; I pray that you will!
For what it's worth, I lost my Mom and sister when this song was popular. I was just 13 and missed them both so much; I cried every time I heard this song. I believe that the angels will always bless us and remind us of what is really important.
@71holtmichael I bought this album when I was 13, back in the late 60's early 70's and this song was so painfully beautiful I had to take it back to the store as listening to it was so sad. If I had to live under what you described, I don't know if I could have the same strength. It sounds like you two shared incredible magic for a season on this earth. Tennyson said "It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Sorry for your loss, but always know that your "Honey" will be looking for you in the next life...and also know that you found a love that some may never know........
@71holtmichael I am so sorry for your lose, I to am feeling a little sad, it is Christmas and I lost my boyfriend July, 2010. From your post it sounds like she knew you loved her. Take care, cottonw1957@aol.com
@71holtmichael I can feel your pain, for I lost my wife 9 years ago to cancer. I can tell you from experience that you will always miss her, love her, and wish she was here. There will be times that you will suddenly start to cry (yes girls, real men do cry), but it does get easier with time. When a man loves a woman (truly loves a woman) he never forgets, and there will always be moments when those sweet memories come flooding back. Enjoy them when they do, and embrace them.
@71holtmichael What a lovely tribute to pay your wife ,i hope you are happy knowing that Karen knew you did love her ,by sharing with us I know you did .a beautiful song .
This was one of my grandmother's favourite songs. She passed away a week ago tomorrow, and her funeral is tomorrow. I remembered this song out of the blue on Sunday and started to sob uncontrollably, but I know right about now, my grandma and Honey are in heaven and she's laughing at me for being a cry-baby. She would always say, Crying? bring a bucket quick. lol.
Granny I miss you, and 'm being good. And I'd love to be with you if only I could.
how in gods name can anyone find this song sexst how blinking stupid are some left wing idiots, just a song all be it a sad, and emtional one just enjoy it.
The most gag-inducing, revolting pop song of all time! And more than tinged with apparently unconscious sexism. Barf, barf, barf! Not a bad voice, though quite nasally-adolescent sounding, but then so many pop singers are. A treacly purgative. Right up there with Paul Anka's "Having My Baby". Auggh!
My ex husband played this for me (first time I had ever heard it) it reminded me of my Grandad, who died in the afternoon and on his own...This song is deff one of my favorites.
Its 1964 and here I am looking for a job in my 1963 Chevy crossing the railroad tracks in Norristown Pa and this song came on WIBG radio 99, for the first time ever. I pulled over and just listened in awe of this song!!
I will never forget that moment I was leaving the old Kyrlon paint factory in Norristown where I had put a aplication in for a job as I crossed the old industrial railroad tracks it came on on my favorite old station wibg radio 99 and as I said before I pulled over and listened and even cried it was such a great song., Thanks for your nice note. It is a moment frozen in time for me as long as I live. I had a beautiful green 2 door 1963 chevy Bel Air stick on the colume back then.
Can't get over the fact that the song was lagging on the charts as of Saturday, April 6, at #10. A week later, on the 13th, this song zoomed to #1. Martin Luther King, Jr., died on Thursday, April 4. Could it be that such a tragedy led to the increased popularity of this song all of a sudden?
Bobby does very few concerts these days, but I caught one of them back in January 2011. Did all his hits, showed some film clips, interesting chatter... and he sounded like he did way back then! I figured he'd be ok, but he was way better than I expected. A solid, entertaining show. Standing ovation at then end... and he earned it.
Stawberry, you really missed with your comment. Obviously you weren't listening close enough. This song is about the love he had for her. He's just remembering her and her funny ways. Maybe your too young to get it.. Listen to it again Honey! Its a great song. Really takes me back. Loved it 35+ years ago, still do!
When I was a kid I loved this song. Still brings a rush of nostalgia. But as an adult I now see that the lyrics are very condescending toward women. The narrator didn't treat his wife well--was rather cruel and patronizing. She tripped and almost hurt herself & he laughed 'till he cried? He makes fun of her when she plants a tree & when she gets emotional watching movies. Sounds like his grief at her loss is actually feelings of guilt for not being there for her, when she was sick or depressed.
my condolences Isn't it wonderful that we have such beautiful music to enjoy and remember our loved ones by? i miss my childhood days when things were so much more simpler, music had a meaning, and people were good at heart. my wife died on 14th March 1977, 14 days before her 30th birthday.

Auggh!
