A DDOS is not necessarily a form of free speech. If all of the participants are voluntary participants, then yes. But if malware of some sort is forcing computers to join the DDOS without the knowledge or permission of the owners of the computers, than it is a crime.

If you're using LOIC for god sakes use a proxy. If you don't know what a proxy is, look it up or don't bother. Otherwise they can find you through your IP address and arrest you. It's the digital equivalent of wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. You want to remain anonymous afterall, right?

DDOS is neither hacking (circumventing intended use of software or hardware) nor cracking (same as hacking but _with malicious intent_ often destroying or changing information or physical objects).

Check out the words and you'll see DDOS "attacks" are just scriptkids or botnets all "yelling at the server" at once so the server can't service normal users. After the "attack" is over, all is back to normal without anything being destroyed.

In addition, the upcoming #takewallstreet DDoS of NYSE is not officially promoted by either @AnonOps or @AnonymousIRC or @YourAnonNews on twitter.

It seems there is an Anonymous member/group of members who want to take direct action against Wall Street. I have seen tweets condemning this DDoS from long time Anonymous members.

Though I would revel in the Lulz if they manage to take down the NYSE, I too sense the backlash outweighs the gains, and this is not helpful for the Occupy Wall St cause

To clear things up:

You download "Low Orbit Ion Cannon" (LOIC) install it, and join the Anonymous IRC channel. There will be instructions in a certain channel's "topic" which will direct you to the "hive". Once connected to the "hive," the "bot" chooses your LOIC's target and your bandwidth is used.

Alternatively hackers have "bot-nets" (millions of infected PC's) which they use to DDoS targets of their sole choosing.
