This is why DCI would be smart to ditch the Bb and bring back the G. DCI no longer has any unique identity. This recording is absolute proof that anything on a G can compete with any Bb.
@drbcrb Quite impossible for DCI to do that now, although I'd love to see world class corps with G bugles someday. Maybe if another billionaire comes along and revives Star as it was back in 1993?
this arrangement of Amazing Grace by PR never ceases to give me pause. the Phantom Regiment sound is simply unsurpassable. hearing them play this is truely a spiritual experience!!!
BREATHTAKING! This is NOT just a hornline, but rather a 72 piece Brass Choir! I've had the Priviledge of standing in the middle of the semi-circle while they played this LIVE, & their simply aren't words to convey what an incredible experience that is! It was during the 1992 DCI World Championship tour while I was on Support Staff with the RAIDERS Drum & Bugle Corps who were based in Bayonne NJ at the time. (They're out of Wayne NJ, now) Still brings goosebumps & a tear every time I hear it!!
Two things I want at my funeral. 1 Phantom playing Amazing Grace 2. A Brass Band playing Elsa's Procession to the Catherdral with Phantom...band style version of it. We die and enter heaven and it is a wedding feast so it all fits.
My band director would play this before we would go to perform to inspire us or whatever its beautiful and sounds amazing when you hear it on a sound system like the one in that band room
When i first found this recording i listened to it nonstop for about a week. Now the link is on my favorites bar haha... such a beautiful version of Amazing Grace. Even better than bagpipes, and i've heard a lot of good bagpipe versions. Thank you so much for putting this up!
Does anyone know where I can get the score for this arrangement? Or perhaps the composer of this arrangement? I don't care if I have to pay for it, I HAVE TO SEE IT.
OMG i have been searching for this recording FOREVER...my conducting instructor told me it was cadets, but i knew that was wrong because the core of the sound was distinctly phantom...haha
Before I played this track for my non DRUM Corps friends I always told them this was no ordinary hornline but rather a 72 piece BRASS CHOIR! It didn't turn all my friends into Drum Corps fans, but it DID coax a tear from a few eyes, including my own every time! At the very least, I think it helped some of my friends understand my devotion to and Passion for the activity!
I get the chills everytime I listen to this version of Amazing grace. Just Amazing! Thank God there are people like this out there, who can make instruments sound sooo perfect and pure
This was recorded during the 1993 season. Recorded inside a high school auditorium believe it or not. I was a member of the pit that summer and we got to sit in the auditorium as it was being recorded. Fire of Eternal Glory was recorded there as well. It was all done for the DCI Ornaments in Brass CD that was released at Christmas that year. I had goosebumps all summer. What a hornline! Best summer of my life.
That was a glorious rendition. I'm a lifelong Blue Devils fan, and when I heard Phantom won the whole bag of marbles last year, I was completely unsurprised. In entire agreement, but completely unsurprised. I felt it was long overdue justice served. Machine 2006, Spartacus 2008, Garfield Cadets redefining the activity in 1984...you can take the boy out of drum corps, but you can NOT take the drum corps out of the boy. This is how it should be.
Yeah! And, believe it or not, a small thing like the meter change from 3/4 to 9/8 during the crescendo gets me! I don't know why, I just think it's awesome!
This album was available for digital download on the DCI sight, in a package called Silver Bells
