  • Damn. I wanna learn this bassline...well, we tried ;) always loved this song...can listen to this over and over again

  • God. Carlos Santana himself would've been smiling.

  • when island jams were bad

  • reminds me of 80s on alamoana blvd waikiki

  • Whew, what a jam. That is a serious happening groove. Very "Island" in it's sound; the kind of feel you get when you're hurtling toward the beach when standing on the board. The wind against your body and face, blowing back your hair. This instantly brings the image and feeling of surfing. The mystic experience of moving across the water, and moving toward the aina at speed, and feeling the ocean under you.

  • DJ is still smoking on that guitar...his sound and style had a tone all its own...distinctive just like Carlos Santana...

  • this is a good live version of black sand! I remember seeing this on VHS when i was a kid, my friends dad recorded it off KGMB lol.

  • they just don't make music like this anymore

  • This song is off the hook even from the 70's. Kalapana will always be my favorite Hawaii band of all times! Aloha and Mahalo.

  • Dang that was crazy cool...miss those jams-contemporary style b 4 jawaiian came out.

  • WTF.. how come i can't see a single person dancing on the floor!! what's wrong with you all! this is such a beautiful music!

  • ds s what u call beautiful music.

  • It is not the wiki that told me who's on bass but the fact that GAYLORD was NEVER a bassist of Kalapana. I suggest that you visit their fan page @ facebook, Kenji Sano was on bass and Gaylord Holomalia was on keyboards. They're in my friends list. Yes it matters. Don't take away anything from them who did their own parts wonderfully to make a great tune for us to listen to. It is important to know them becoz all of them has their own identity and huge roles in making great tunes that we enjoy.

  • and for me, I don't THINK that I am right and you are wrong - I am SURE that you are wrong about Kenji on bass and Gaylord on keyboards. sorry, but you deprive the guys of the recognitions due them. I am a Kalapana fan from age 11, and I've been listening to them for nearly three decades, as I hear and read some members and sidemen come and go. I am not commenting on what I don't know or what I am not a hundred % sure. I only speak of what I am sure of.

  • That's Kenji Sano on bass and Gaylord on keyboard. This was the time when Kenji and Gaylord joined Kalapana in the 80's. you may visit the kalapana's facebook fan page to get to know the members better. And visit wikipedia for better info, srhs420.

  • Gaylord's keyboard sizzles!!

    thumbs up, thumbs up!!!

  • Great!! This is one of the most important part of my "Immortal Instrumentals" playlist.

  • なつかしかあ!

  • A very awesome band with a cool & groovy kind of sound! ∞♥∞

  • Timeless... still one of my favorite songs!

  • What can I say? So much talent! Thanks for the post. Keep Kalapana and Mackey alive forever!!

  • just GREAT!!!

  • This is one of my all-time favorite KALAPANA jams which I've used for many of my Hawaiian videos. I hope to make it to their reunion at CECILIO & KAPONO's 35th Anniversary "Back in Da Day" concert at the Waikiki Shell on August 23!
