  • wow leon is a legend in his own time a TRUE folk singer with an amazing gift and passion if anyone knows of any gigs it would be great.I feel daft gushing kike this but i really think this is the best song ever written this performance gave my goosebumps thanx for posting this

  • there were FBI Cointel forces to assist sabotaging the Diggers S.F. CA Summer of Love days....The Diggers had a free daily food giveaway and store going for some time

  • the digger spirit lives on in Todmorden

  • rich bastards and their golf course.

  • This is a grteat video - thanks for posting. What a powerful song - I've loved it for years

  • such heartfelt emotion. Beats Dick Gaughans version....I know now why you posted it! Bravo! Took courage!

  • Look at my comment thats below with your head upside down.

  • @MrSintendo Brilliant!!

  • uʍop ǝpısdn

  • you poor take courage! you rich take care

  • Now I know where Billy got it!

    Good Stuff.

  • Privatize profits, socialize debts. It's called 'neoliberalism' and it's what the Bilderberg Group wants.

  • Long Live The Diggers!

  • I had the pleasure to hear Leon Rosselson sing this song in a little coffee shop in Seattle 20 years ago or so. I bought a tape and wore it out. It was hard to find the CD, but ultimately I succeeded. It is a great pleasure to have this video. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

  • Dear Ben Tonkin: Learn some history. The soldiers did the killing, not the peaceful community that sought a better world.

  • @jimwalsh3 Aye. English farmers had got themselves a reputation for being 'a bit handy' when it comes to war, but they'd have been no match for the 'army'.

  • Perhaps you should listen to the song again. You appear to have misunderstood it.

  • What fighting? The Diggers weren't fighters - they were, well, diggers! Sadly, that's why they were crushed - it was the Establishment who had the swords and pikes.

  • who remembers parson Platt? Hah! Fuckin good song mate.

  • Excellent. Keep on singing it until the revolution!

  • Sorry, I should have said Winstanley lived until 1676, not 1576.

  • Inspirational song for an ideology in the 17th century which would have made a huge difference if it had been accepted and adopted. Whatever happened to Gerrard Winstanley? And what are the legalities of turning common land into an exclusive golf course?

  • Well, we could still try it now.

BTW, the Diggers mentioned in this song were the group that Emmet Grogan was paying tribute to when he named his band of street theatre anarchists and free food providers in San Francisco during the late '60s. Gerrard Winstanley lived until 1576, and never really recanted his beliefs.

  • I love the diggers!
