A person would have to have a mild case of the Down Syndromes to understand this British garbage. As it is you can't enable the subtitles on the DVD and I don't understand a word that's being said in the entire film. Maybe I'd understand what y'all raving about if I could just understand the dialogue. They could be speaking fucking Botswana jize talk and I wouldn't have the foggiest. IT'S THE PINKY PONK!
@The3Brett3 how can you not understand a different accent?? i live in north wales and have a plain british accent and i can understand any accent as long as they are speaking english, just listen it's not hard you aussie criminal dumbass.
How can there be 10 dislikes? This is the epitome of British movie making! There is an element of Richard in all of us, what we feel and what we would like to do if similar circumstances occured. Let's face it, this movie speaks volumes where Hollywood can only dream.
Why has so few people seen this..? People are too busy watching mainstream bullshit like 'Narnia' and anything with Leonardo Decaprio in it to even notice a brilliant film like this.
@undrugged - the star star star Stutter Rap brother in the film was just a figment of his imagination. I still can't believe that the cunts compared this to Taxi Driver just because he wore the same green colored jacket as Travis. What an insult. Yes, my name is Iggle Piggle, Iggle Wiggle Piggle wiggle woooo. I watched "The Night Porter" the other night & that one scene where Charlotte Rampling sings the German song shits on anything Dead Man's Shoes offers.
One of my favourite films of all time! Paddy Considine is an amazing actor. He plays a nutter very well. If you haven't already seen it, I highly recommend another of Shane Meadows' films starring Paddy called a room for Romeo Brass. Fucking great film
Loved this film but i'm cunfused by something, Richard was there to avenge his brother Anthony who hung himself. Yet Anthony was with him throughout the film? In the barn at the end he's talking about Anthony in the past tense, as if he was dead. Have I missed soemthing??
@antonw91 Richard was only imagining that Anthony was with him. We were just seeing it from Richard's point of view. That's why he was talking about him in the past tense because Anthony wasn't really there. He'd been dead the whole time.
@BloodOfRayne Thank you for you reply, it did occur to me that Richard was imagining Anthony but there were certain scenes which gave the impression Anthony was there, The opening scene where he tells Anthony not to play with that fire, This scene above where he tells Anthony "go round there bro" plus other scenes. Maybe i'm just over thinking it :)
@antonw91 I think that's the point. Richard is obviously a bit gone in the head so he speaks and still sees Anthony and treats him like the brother he knew and loved, even though he is gone.
Another point of this brilliant film though is the morality of it. Even though Richard got vengeance, was it justified? By rights the man at the end should of died too, he still did his 'crime'. However, maybe Richard realized he was the worse beast of them all. Who knows!?
@antonw91 The fire scene was to just throw you off and believe Anthony was there. It's the same technique that M. Night Shyamalan used where if you watch closely during the dinner scene in the Sixth Sence you see his wife for a second look directly at Bruce willis' character; therefore throwing us off subliminally and reinforcing our belief he was alive when all the time he was dead. You gotta remember that film makers are tricksy. I think it was was done really well in this film. :)
This film suffers from a serious case of Cher snatch scabs - it's twot! The titty-boo's have sung their song. Y did this cunt wear the gas mask 4 when he announced himself quite loud & clearly earlier at the start in the bar? What was the point in the mask? Dead Man's shit slurps frothy King Kong Bundy cum. Tomblee Boo Tomblee Boo sit on the floor. Tomblee Boo Tomblee Boo knock on the door. Tomblee Boo Tomblee Boo this is my nose - Tomblee BooTomblee Boo that's how it goes!

Whacka packer icka whacker packer packer poo! Dumb dumb bum! I'd rather watch Mr. Plinky Plonk & The Tomblee Bool's finger fuck Upsy Daisy than subject into this horrendous film! @The3Brett3 The countryside gangsters weren't meant to be scary. They never stood a chance against Richard. That was the whole point of the film. They were all pathetic nobdies living in a dead end where there was nothing better to do than take drugs and bully a mentally handicapped boy.
@nougatzimmerframe erm... u really think the whole point of the movie was taking drugs and having no chance against rich? - sorry, just wanted to clarify
@excelbolt The whole point of the film is that it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Rich was going to kill those idiots. The clue is in the title of the film. Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine deliberately played with the revenge film formula by telling the story mostly from the POV of the victims as opposed to the perpertrator. The full extent of their crime is only revealed at the end, thus making you reassess all that you saw previously.
@The3Brett3 m8 ur a total retard, the car was ment to be pathetic, its showing how incredibly small time the gangsters are, how ther ego is a million times bigger than they would ever be. throughout the film your suppose to sympathise abit with the gangsters until it all becomes clear at the end. the scary 1 is suppose to be the killer. y do idiots comment on films they r clearly too retarded to understand.
@mirwin931 the whole concept of saying "YOU YA CUNT!" is because he wants to fight but the other guy doesn't even though he squared up like was going to fight..really intresting scene
if you want to pull this off you have to want to fight :)
@mannyste Yeah some people square up to people as a defense hoping the other will back down or just walk away. Its why unless your up for a fight there and then, you should not run your mouth off.
Great film, like High Plains Drifter (Eastwood). Cafe scene: initially, when questioned, Richard is vulnerable (like his brother). This makes the drug-dealer feel in control, like the bully that he is--then the other side of Richard kicks in (you, yer c**t), which scares the drug-dealer off. So, Richard in a way is like his brother, but with a difference --he's angry and he's had training. The tag-line to this film? "He's in all of us". Who is in all of us? Richard or Richard's brother? Both?
This is an intense fucking movie and I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may strike someone as not interested in these types of movies , as I am pretty girly, but movies in this type of category are the shit !.
Film makers with multi million dollar budgets should watch and learn from this brilliant, low budget british classic.Paddy and all involved,FANTASTIC!!!
the hairs on my arms stand on end when i see this part of the film when he says your in the palm of my hand now fuck off. you can feel the anger quality acting top film
i love psychological warfare, the funny thing is that the drug dealers dont realize that they were defeated at the gas mask scene...once your enemy ceases to be merely human you have a serious problem lol
I saw this for the first time only last night & i have to say I loved it...I could sense the ''this is england' feel & then realised it was actually a shane meadows film - he certainly has his own style! The story was so sad & I couldnt watch some parts but intrigue made me want to, just like parts of this is england but that is the beauty of his work! The acting is immense..an underrated movie indeed!
@subymay I saw this other night as well. I liked it, but not all of it, slightly overrated film imo. The "gang" come across as too nice to do the evil stuff they did to his brother they needed more menace and more background, they are also thick as shit!!! as inept as you can get. also the scene where he gets his revenge on these guys in Sonnys house that the film builds up to is a real anticlimax. good ending though i liked both the twists they worked well.
@dageezerboi IMO it just made the film more believable. Bunch of everyday stoners. Think about it, dont you know a group of people who dont come across as evil or whatever but would do things like that just to have a laugh?
@LitaniTilSatan666 sure I know people like that but I dont know anyone who would do what they did "for a laugh" no. emotionally and physically abusing a retarded kid to the point of suicide aint what your average group of stoners would do..
@dageezerboi Eh, I think I brought that over wrong. But I can think of quite a view people who would do something like this for a laugh - whats more, I can think of more than a view who have, except that it didnt turn quite as sour as it did in the movie.
@LitaniTilSatan666 spot on bud. I knew a lot of those types back in the day and ive seen some truly horrendous things happen. Thats why this film gets to me so much. One of the best.
This movie filled me with rage. It progressed brilliantly. First you think the guy is just unhinged then it turns into a revenge movie. Finally it ends as a slasher flick.
Because of their thick accents, I couldn't understand some parts of the movie. I mean I understand the point of it and most of the scenes, but there's still a scene that eludes my mind. How come anthony was shown "dead" when he obviously wasnt?
@FreeGamesEverywhere Anthony was dead all along mate, Richard had returned from service to attend the funeral, and then some time down the line he gets his revenge. At least, that's how I see it, it's probably open for a bit of interpretation :)
I just love it towards the end of the confrontation scene, the deflated look on Sonny's face when the camera is panned on both actors. He knows hes fucked basically, this guy is a different level, the good times are over.....
watched for the 2nd time yesterday, what. a. film. And these are 2 of the most memorable bits! 1st time when you see he means business, YOU, ya cunt. And that you're in my hand bit, brilliant. interesting comedic thread through the film, but also so powerful and dramatic. top film.
Astonishing film. Gripped me from start to finish. How on earth Paddy Considine did not get more credit for his performance is beyond me. Immense in every way. All the support were as credible. Shane Meadows finest moment. Definitely one of my top 10 films of all time.
@PrettyGreen1970 Do you think this is better than A Room for Romeo Brass? This is an amazing film but I slightly prefer Romeo Brass. Paddy Considine is an absolute genius in both films.

Both?
itubewantsto 7 months ago 2
@itubewantsto I think it means the monster that Richard talks about being portrayed as at the end

Should have got a fuckin Oscar for the scene where he fronts the guy getting out of the car.

Brilliant film. Proof that a massive budget and lots of CGI are not needed to make an outstanding film.

i love psychological warfare, the funny thing is that the drug dealers dont realize that they were defeated at the gas mask scene...once your enemy ceases to be merely human you have a serious problem lol

Paddy Considine's dress code, stance and detached attitude remind me of De Niro's Travis Bickle character in Taxi Driver.

The acting is immense..an underrated movie indeed!
subymay 9 months ago 2
@subymay I saw this other night as well. I liked it, but not all of it, slightly overrated film imo. The "gang" come across as too nice to do the evil stuff they did to his brother they needed more menace and more background, they are also thick as shit!!! as inept as you can get. also the scene where he gets his revenge on these guys in Sonnys house that the film builds up to is a real anticlimax. good ending though i liked both the twists they worked well.
dageezerboi 9 months ago
@dageezerboi IMO it just made the film more believable. Bunch of everyday stoners. Think about it, dont you know a group of people who dont come across as evil or whatever but would do things like that just to have a laugh?
LitaniTilSatan666 7 months ago
@LitaniTilSatan666 sure I know people like that but I dont know anyone who would do what they did "for a laugh" no. emotionally and physically abusing a retarded kid to the point of suicide aint what your average group of stoners would do..
dageezerboi 7 months ago
@dageezerboi Eh, I think I brought that over wrong. But I can think of quite a view people who would do something like this for a laugh - whats more, I can think of more than a view who have, except that it didnt turn quite as sour as it did in the movie.
LitaniTilSatan666 7 months ago
@dageezerboi I'd like to agree with you but I'm not so sure. There are some really nasty people around....................
Poltergeist40 7 months ago
@LitaniTilSatan666 spot on bud. I knew a lot of those types back in the day and ive seen some truly horrendous things happen. Thats why this film gets to me so much. One of the best.

This movie filled me with rage. It progressed brilliantly. First you think the guy is just unhinged then it turns into a revenge movie. Finally it ends as a slasher flick.
catbuffalo 9 months ago
Because of their thick accents, I couldn't understand some parts of the movie. I mean I understand the point of it and most of the scenes, but there's still a scene that eludes my mind. How come anthony was shown "dead" when he obviously wasnt?
FreeGamesEverywhere 9 months ago
@FreeGamesEverywhere Anthony was dead all along mate, Richard had returned from service to attend the funeral, and then some time down the line he gets his revenge. At least, that's how I see it, it's probably open for a bit of interpretation :)
danfrost313 9 months ago 2
@danfrost313
so... anthony talking to richard throughout the movie, is just in his head? Wow, didn't see that coming.

Astonishing film. Gripped me from start to finish. How on earth Paddy Considine did not get more credit for his performance is beyond me. Immense in every way. All the support were as credible. Shane Meadows finest moment. Definitely one of my top 10 films of all time.
PrettyGreen1970 11 months ago
@PrettyGreen1970 Do you think this is better than A Room for Romeo Brass? This is an amazing film but I slightly prefer Romeo Brass. Paddy Considine is an absolute genius in both films.

The green & white citroen 2 CV indicative of their position in the grand scheme of things. Shane Meadow's intentional black comedy. Class.
