  • Probably air through the nose

  • Simple trick...he walks up to teller several times sometime during those visits he gives the card to teller. Teller breaths through some kind of small hidden air tube or maybe there are several layers of glass inside the container some filled with water and some not giving of the illusion of him being in water. So simple...

  • Teller has spoken but his face is always blacked out. I've seen it

  • @MrAyalaincdotorg

he has spoken many time on camera and is never blacked out...

    there are clips on youtube

  • Snorkel arm

  • @s0ccer11inter Bear in mind as I say this that I have been a Christian for pretty much my whole life... Who the hell cares if he's an atheist? What he believes or doesn't believe doesn't affect you in any way!

  • Underwater coffin of certain doom. LOL!!

  • You think there is a big secret to how someone can hold their breath for an impossible amount of time? You're the reason why magic... and con-men make a living.

  • has he ever spoken?

    /watch?v=6asb8T6KoPA&feature=related

did you call me a litte person? or a goldfish?

  • He looks so thin

  • Did Teller DIE? The video ended! OH NO!

  • @Nintendo46

    6 months later.

  • @Nintendo46 Because the tricks belong to Penn and Teller they have the right to give the tricks up not us. It's just a matter of respect.

  • someone post the trick secret, fuck this guy

  • Might as well call them Penn and Kenny.......you killed Kenny.....you bastard!

  • @MrStevilKneivel true; eitherway you never hear him actually speak

  • I love both these guys but together they are hilarious. I spend a lot of my spare time looking for any stuff with Cleese in it. For everyone out there like me the channel snapsnap has some good stuff on it.

  • Sorry, Penn I couldn't hear the video, your shoes were too loud.

  • Ho! He has become fatter now.

  • *shorter than normal, that is. Normally he looks huge next to people.

  • I think he be breathing through his nose (which is within the scuba mask, with a pocket of air).

  • He's not actually in any water

  • Good, but drawn-out...

  • OMG YOU KILL TELLER

    -YOU BASTARD

  • i'm no magician but worked this out so easilty... not one of their best.

  • weird seeing him looking like that after watching penn and teller fool us

  • Faulty towers.....

  • Anyone, how is he doing this? i really dont know magic

  • It's a simple trick if you understand the principles of magic. It's not even a true card trick. One can easily follow the card from Cleese to Teller's hand. You need to know what you're looking for. That's why you never do the same trick twice. The audience is always less sucked in the second time.

It all comes down to Steal, Palm, Misdirection, Load,M P,M,L, M, Ditch, M,S, Reveal.

It's just a built up sleight of hand. But more fun than little foam balls.

Did I Give away too much?

  • @nine4t4 The only thing I need to know is how he was gven air supply unless that he was sucking air when he has his back turned.

  • i dont know how its done, nor do i want to know. i think penn and teller are amazing! i watched the bullet catching trick on CH4 late at night as a kid and have loved them ever since.

  • He's breathing through his nose....

  • Penn is tall, man!

  • John Cleese and Penn & Teller :] i can die now

  • @uniqueproportions

hes breathing through his nose..... Simples

  • How is he breathing? I'm dumb

  • Dude this trick is so obvious, if you saw the movie the prestige you can tell that teller clones himself everytime and dies on every show

  • @tttfoxhound haaha xD

  • @tttfoxhound Brilliant comment!

  • @tttfoxhound you ruined the trick for me! gawd!

  • @tttfoxhound Hahaha that's hilarious

  • @tttfoxhound ridiculous spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen that incredible movie

  • @tttfoxhound 547? How the fuck!?

  • Don't like this man...he is an atheist ( don't know how to spell it sorry)

  • @s0ccer11inter That bothers you?

  • @s0ccer11inter why is that so bad?

  • @s0ccer11inter Because someone cares about what is true or not, and uses reasoned logic and physical evidence to govern what he believes in this world, that means you dont like him? you may also note that most of the brightest minds in the world at athiests -see the connection here? Next time you goto a hospital you put your hands in the technology and wisdom of critical thinkers just like him. or just pray that cancer will go away. see which works best.

  • @MrThumbwii An atheist's comment in the top comments? Maybe there is a god... Wait a second...

  • @MrThumbwii you put too much faith in science. there are reasons why things like religion still exist. it's because when conventional science fails, people cling onto hope, and try and find whatever they can to relieve them from the pain. i'm not religious myself, but you're acting as if science is the almighty answer to everything. i'm sorry, but that's just not true. not for a few centuries at least. we barely understand how the body works, let alone the rest of the world.

  • trick secrets

  • The best magic duo ever and so funny as well

  • r.i.p teller you will be missed

  • Nicely done Rosie!

  • I think I'm the only one who understood what "Basil" was a reference to...

Cleese used to have a lesser known tv show called Fawlty Towers, on which he played a hotel manager named, Basil

  • @GriffinSst I would say that Fawlty Towers is quite well known, at least over here, it's considered a classic show

  • @GriffinSst Lesser known?

  • @GriffinSst I think you are the only one who thinks that.

  • Is that a balisong(butterfly knife) Penns' using?

  • When he turned around he got air and that was when he fed him the card

  • He breathes through the mask, which is connected to air via his right arm, which is continuously above water

  • nicely done rosie.

  • nice shoes :D

  • What's with the always up arm lol...

  • Did he died

  • what the duece are gaggles

  • what the fuck are gaggles

  • STAY TUNED FOR WHAT!?!?

  • The record is over 10 minutes isnt it? Saw Jack Osbourne almost beat the Houdini time on his TV show...still very impressive none the less :)

  • Cleese & Penn are TALL!!! O_O

  • @MavisRileyJunior Kind of silly saying you will delete posts that say what the trick was when Penn & Teller themselves reveal the tricks to many tricks like this, including this one.

  • 8:42 you can see the air supply cable running along teller's back... XD

    nice skit though!

  • He can breathe through the gaggles

  • so how did he managed to breathe? There should be bubbles if he is breathing?

  • okay what happens to penn ????? lol

  • Pen and Teller are such great magicians. I grew up learning and immersed in magic and it was my life for a long time. And I'll get back into it soon. Pen is such a great, natural communicator, which is the most important thing in magic by far. Performance. I focused too obsessively on technique and was a very technical card magician, Penn's patter here is so great though.

  • what is penn putting into his pocket at 4:40??

  • @Blackerer

I think it might be the marker pen.

  • @Blackerer Oh, brilliant! I didn't notice that!

  • 6:30 around that point he has to have given it teller.

  • Feeling pretty thick...how the hell did they do that?

  • Yeah screw it, John. He's brain dead.

  • Last record I heard is 7 min

  • lol 8:16 "What a pity" from Cleese... CLASSIC!

  • if anybody knows how this trick is done with the card switch and how penn manages to stay alive please message me thanks :)

  • @keepachris penn is the big guy, teller was the one in the tank

  • @keepachris There is probably a concealed tube that goes to his mask and he just breathes through his nose instead of his mouth, thats my best guess.

  • @CheapToad

It's not liquid oxygen. Liquid O2 isn't stable at room temperature and would have blown up. The correct name is perfluorocarbon. And as of RIGHT NOW, the science behind these breathable liquids is fuzzy, at best. There's no way Penn and Teller would've ever used it x number of years ago let alone right now.

  • @CommanderdMtllca It isn't fuzzy. These breathable liquids are often used to help premature babies breathe since their lungs are fully developed.

  • love those shoes

  • saw it!

  • This was easy to figure out, but still good!

  • So...nobody cares that Teller's dead, as long as they find the card? XD JK

  • So...nobody cares that Teller's dead, as long as they find the card? XD

  • I think Teller is awfully sexy

  • Monty Pythons Fish Slapping Dance Is Better!

  • turn off the sound and watch. you'll understand how simple it is. Penn is the master of distracting patter.

  • Last I remember ... I knew these people...

  • The illusion is facilitated by Penn Gillette's distracting patter. Turn the audio off and watch it again. Think about how YOU would possibly do it. :D

  • he can breathe through his nose

  • nicely done. lmao!

  • boring, rubish... big waste of my 10 minutes

  • Well, this trick was really funny but I think most people understood how they did it.

  • Trick: That wasn't really water. It was liquid oxygen. Sorry

  • ...does Penn still wear earrings? I've never noticed before...

Also, a ban on posting the secrets to a trick by magicians part of whose gimmick is making a big joke of the secrets behind their tricks seems a bit silly.

  • Its pretty inmature to ask people not to reply whatever they want. This tricks are too used and pretty much explained all over the world...

  • Holy shit, Teller is like Kenny from South Park, no matter how many die, more keep coming. Well until later episodes. Awesome show.

  • Nearly Headless Nick

  • "Nicely done Rosie!"

  • 4 minutes 35 seconds?

The actual record for holding breath is closer to 9 minutes. By breathing pure oxygen beforehand, someone has actually held their breath for 19 minutes. Not that I want to ruin the drama or anything but Penn, that was bullshit!

  • @BaddeJimme At the time this was made I believe the record was held by Houdini.

  • @BaddeJimme yeh back then it was or are you being sarcy

  • @BaddeJimme Yes, but that is not a well known fact, and as you may or may not know, Penn and Teller's show runs on bullshit in a world of bullshit, which is intentionally ironic from the start.

I mean, what is magic, anyway?

  • @BaddeJimme This was 17 years ago, it was probably the record then

  • @BaddeJimme First of all, he obviously made up the record to make it seem like Teller breaks it to make the show more entertaining. Second, this video is more than 15 years old; the record has been broken more than once in that time.

  • sir, can you message me secret to this trick please ...

  • opening a "fresh" deck of cards means nothing in this day and age of high production magic.

  • For BS fans, I will only state the prestidigitation has not ended. Look away. Penn is two steps from politician...

  • @4176raven Root and zooty alsmost quit showbiz to go in to politics as well. and are your Nerd enought to get the reference here? Zoot zoot!!

  • i couldnt hear anything over Penn's shoes......

  • i wish penn could have died in the box

  • why would you delete the trick secret? Some people get extra enjoyment out of knowing how the trick is done, I don't think anybody gets enjoyment out of confusing ponderings of how it is done.

  • @jayrobson88 exactly, but hes an idiot right wing lunatic who thinks censorship is nessisary... no conservative ever thinks that someone else might have a better idea than them so they censor

  • I was called on stage to be the dupe (cleese) for this trick in Atlanta in the 90's. I still have the key to "open" the tank as a souvenier. It was so great.

  • makaber makaber XD

  • "Watch your ass, Rosie"

  • did teller die ? :"(

  • @mahimahimindy Yes he did. It was in all the papers. John Cleese only made it to a grand jury before they dismissed the charges of involuntary manslaughter on him. Use Google Earth to find his grave some time.

  • @nyc14gauge No, he is still alive

  • OMG, I wanted to see Teller get out of the box!

  • 6:21 "somebody has written Basil on it"!!! love that.

  • It's no trick. HE'S A WITCH, BURN HIM!!!

  • stay tuned for what?

  • 77 people really believe that Teller died

  • come check out my page =]

  • John Cleese is the world's greatest straight man!

  • delightfully morbid

  • delightfully morbid

  • he breathes through his face mask, air streaming through the sides

  • Trick: That was teller twin brother which they hate.

  • "Screw it John. He's braindead." LOL

  • Everything's okay because they found John's card in the end.

  • brasileiro com orgulho

  • if some1 wants to mp me saying how this is done. go ahead!!

  • Hahaha that was Quality

  • rip teller you were great. this video is chilling but at least he past away doing what he loved.

  • @gmvillian

wow, you come onto youtube to pretend to be breaking news that someone has died, thats pretty lame and sad dude. no woman eh?

  • @gmvillian hes not dead, he was on itv last week

  • 77 people are braindead

  • What happened to teller?

  • I had no idea Teller drowned...

  • Isitjustme that finds it funny that this looks exactly like something Monty Python would have done?

  • "Yes penn thats my card oh no it isnt" lol classic

  • "teller? teller? is it teller?"

yes john, it's written in big letters behind you

  • WTF Penn makes john cleese look tiny! he must be like 6 foot 8!

  • @thatkindofguy234 hes' about 6'6 but he's bigger then John *mass wise* so he probably makes John look smaller that way.

  • can anyone tell me the name of the show that penn and teller did probably about 15 years ago that was on tv in the UK. It was a one off and it featured the trick with the magic bullet where they caught each other's bullet in their mouths. there was also a perspex tunnel in the background that someone crawled through during the show. i;ve been searching for AGES!!!!!!

  • @williemiller1983 YEs it was called Dont Try this At Home.

  • @MavisRileyJunior thanks but that's not it. i've since found out it is called Phobophilia - i can't find how to get this on dvd or download though. it seems like it is only available on VHS (which is no use for me). does anyone have any help on how to get PHOBOPHILIA?

  • @williemiller1983 yes sorry it is,I have it in my collection copied to dvd.

  • @MavisRileyJunior can you help me get this to dvd or on some sort of file on the computer? i've been wanting to watch this for so long!!!!

  • @williemiller1983 I have it on VHS having bought it for 50p in a charity shop!

  • When was this?

  • @DannyEddy357 1994

  • @J0ker4U he is 6 foot 8 :)

    Great trick though

  • lol I think this trick is more about shifting attention than anything. Penn most likely handed the cared to Teller whenever he ran up to the tank and tried to get the key from him. The other question is: How did Penn pick out the card when he was shuffling the deck? Maybe it was the way he shuffled it or when he turned to Teller in between doing so.

  • Wow, that's pretty amazing

  • wona how its done notis how u never see behind him and that the eye wear gose over his nose probly some kind of pips up his nose using a rebreather very clever

  • "Added February 2007"

    Last Bullshit! Season: 2010

He didn't die doing this, though the fact so many comments seem to think otherwise show how epic Penn & Teller's magic is :P

  • TELLER IS ACTUALLY BREATHING THROUGH

TRANSPARENT TUBING ; MUCH LIKE YOU

WOULD FIND IN A FISH AQUARIUM

  • It's a pity that Teller had to die for this magic trick to work. I don't think the trick was worth it.

  • @nothingnesswithouten He never died from this? 0_o

  • @MavisRileyJunior Yeah, but its not your footage. In fact, if one of us shot Penn and Teller's production company an email telling them that you're ripping they're show and putting it on youtube "your channel" would become their channel. Keep moderating your comments, friend, I will watch this channel, and I will tell them what you're doing so they take it down.

  • @Winnman05 You'll get over it. Im sure Penn and Teller would thank me for keeping their secrets.Plus P&T dont own this clip. get your facts straight.

  • @MavisRileyJunior Awww, I bet they would be so proud of you! When I go see their show, I'll tell them ALL about you and your vigilant fight to keep their secrets safe!

  • @Boteak I reciat ethat.Thanks.

  • I've seen this performed live. These guys are absolutely brilliant showmen!

  • John looked rather perturbed at about 8:20-ish

  • John looked rather perturbed at about 8:20

  • I counted at least 3 occasions when Penn could've passed the card to Teller

  • What show is this?

  • @DomB413 The Unpleasant world of Penn and Teller.
