  • As far as i see it you are poching using a vehicular device to catch wild game . it the same as hunting of a highway. your using a boat to gain ground on your hunt. go on foot next time and make it a challenge

  • @Harrysativa Did you not see the part where the narrator said they had been hunting for 7 days in the woods? This re-enactment of the event that occurred was as they were getting ready to leave camp. The boat was going upstream to pickup some other members of the party when the opportunity occurred.

  • shooting a moose from a boat is aint leagle in alot of places

  • @bubajj I guess you missed the part about the video being a reenactment?

  • @bubajj Say what?!!!

  • Did you not see the part where the 'dressed' moose was loaded in the boat?

  • Gee, the first rule of hunting is seeing your target and beyond, you also want a good shot so the animal doesn't suffer, and you need to be able to dress and move your harvest. Does your "jet boat" have a wench?

  • Wow. How great ethics. They're shooting a moving target, from a moving platform while its in the water, and they say: "I can't see why people say, not to shoot them in the water".

This is like the recipe on how to not risk wounding the animal and prolonging it's slow and painful death.

  • If just every hunter would shoot moving game in water from moving platforms I'm sure we would have a lot less, or maybe even eliminate the risk of poor hits, and less animals would suffer.

To actually have to walk and search for the game without any motorized vehicles to distract them is clearly not hunting and therefore it is for retards.

Maybe we should just use helicopters with mounted machine guns. Now THAT would be hunting.

  • @ComKFOR I guess you missed the part about the video being a re-enactment.

  • @apgs01 Well if it was a re-enactment, it was a re-enactment of a frowned upon hunting method. It also implies it was a re-enactment of something that actually occurred, so those people responsible are still dicks.

  • Moose meat has a very strong taste, and it is usually enjoyed with red wine and dark bread. I enjoyed the meat of these animals in my trip to Norway.

  • what river is this?

  • What a great way to hunt... I hear that this is becoming more common...to hunt from a power boat.

What a great looking bull. Were you able to pack the whole animal in your boat in one trip...??

    Thanks for sharing the video!!

    Cheers

  • and use a BOW!

  • Nothing but great things to say about Alaska Private Guide Service and Smokey Don Duncan. I have hunted with Smokey and consider his hunts to be top notch. I would highly recommend any hunt that he offers. I will not try to defend the hunting way of life, those who get it do, and those who do not should not watch the video. Keep up the great work Smokey!!! JJS

  • I really wonder what's the pleasure in Moose hunting?

I consider today that any wild life is rare and precious. I would't kill one for a milion expect if i m lost in the wild with NO way to get food.I feel them like inocenent animal BTW

  • Moose are not rare, if people wouldn't hunt them, they would overpopulate and that would make a big mess of their whole ecosystem.

Hunting is a fun and challenging (and cheap!!) way of getting Food (250+lbs of free meat)

Do you know how nice a moose's life is compared to the cattle that is raised for meat?

  • @blackdiamond211 it isn't really free you have to buy the equitment

  • Your a moron, if you love them so much why do you watch these videos.... your a joke

  • im sick of some of you idiots you shoot a moose with a gun thats hunting!!! did you not hear him say they were heading back to camp for there hunt witch means they got off the boat to hike around and search, sont listen to these idiots there mothers dont love them you did just fine great moose

  • thats not hunting. thats just boys with happy trigger fingers..lol

  • Yah pretty boring.

  • It would appear that you need to view the video again. How many days had been spent in the bush when this incident occurred?

  • That is a nice size bull their!

But I rather stalk a moose then pull up on a boat that is bull shit

  • Did you pay attention to how many days had been spent in the bush hunting before this occurred?

  • Are those the Alaska regs for the game management unit they were hunting in?

  • Response 1: 00THEHUNTER00 is not correct. In Alaska it is legal to have a loaded gun in or on anything. It is legal to shoot a moose from the boat. The motor can not be running and the forward progress from the motor must have ceased. The boat can be moving from the current. The motor can be in the water. Again what you see is a re-enactment the next day. SEE RESPONSE 2

  • Response 2:sed. The boat can be moving from the current. The motor can be in the water. Again what you see is a re-enactment the next day. During the re-enactment the motor was not locked down and kicked up and sucked up weeds. What really happened the night before, was we came around the corner wide open headed for the main river before it got too dark to see. There were about 10 moose standing in the creek but only the bull was in the channel and in the way. SEE RESPONSE 3

  • Response 3: The bull started to run to the left and then inexplicably turned around and went right and then when he reached the bank he turned around and went left right back in front of the boat. We were going to hit him and run over him or he was going to flip the boat. It was happening fast and not looking good for the moose or us. As soon as I saw the bull, I stood on the throttle in full reverse praying that the bull would get out and stay out of the way. SEE RESPONSE 4

  • Response 4: I got the boat stopped less than 10 feet from the bull. We did not pursue, herd, or, harass the bull or other moose. He was standing in the creek and not swimming. The motor was shut off. The current started moving us down stream. I judged the bull legal and the hunter racked a round in the chamber and shot him. The bull turned around again and headed for the cut bank. When he got out of the water the hunter planted him. 2 shots were fired. SEE RESPONSE 5

  • Response 5: I started the motor and turned around and pulled up next to the moose. At that time another bull chasing a cow came running through the brush right at us. We jumped back in the boat to get away from them. The cow jumped over the back of the boat nearly landing in it. The bull stayed on the bank and went about 30 yards down stream and stayed there. SEE RESPONSE 6

  • Response 6: During all of this, motor running, shutting off, 2 shots, motor starting, moose jumping, moose dying, another bull grunting and raking trees, all of the other moose stayed right there and continue to feed in the creek. We gutted the bull and skinned him down and propped him open to cool down. So that took about an hour or more. The other moose never left. They didn't leave when we fired up the motor to leave. SEE RESPONSE 7

  • Response 7: In 20+ years of guiding moose hunters, we have killed 2 moose from the boat. Both times we were returning to camp from hunting. That bull would have gotten away easy if he had not kept changing his mind about which way to go. He would have been gone by the time we could get a legal shot off. When the good lord hands you one like that; you say thanks. You don't complain about it being "too easy" or not "hunting". SEE RESPONSE 8

  • Response 8: And no hunter worth his salt would complain about another hunter catching a lucky, fortunate break. The hunter thanked his creator, and called in the plane to take the meat to the local homeless shelter and food bank. His good fortune was passed along and benefited many others. As it should be. Smokey, Alaska Master Guide

  • and as we say in australia its only illigal if you get caught (excuse my bad spelling)

  • This is so pussy. Hike in and hunt the animal on equal terms.

  • i agree what a bunch of fucking cowards! get off your dead ass hike in kill it and then pack it out. lame motherfuckers!

  • great bull

    meat otta be good eatin

    great job

    good luck next season

  • Roger, what you are seeing is an outboard jet drive. You can not run propellers in the rivers here. Yes, the motor shakes because it is an outboard not because it has a prop.

  • How remote are you?

  • Game Unit 17. Check the Alaska Game maps on our site.

  • you guys dont know what a jet boat is!!! thats a out board motor you got there! by the look of the shaking motor (in the last pic) you sure need a jet unit!! Im also impressed by your bravery taking on such a big animal. You must be proud of yourselves!!!

  • I thought the law is your motor has to be out of the water. Maybe thats just in canada. You should have just run that moose over with the boat. wow.

  • Meat is kept. It was in the boat but not really visible.

  • how are you

  • i hope yas kept the meat...i didnt see it quarter'd up in the boat...prolly had to make a couple trips tho eh?

  • whats the law to shooting while in forward motion?

  • As you heard in the video interview with the hunter, the driver backed it down and cut the power.

    Remember this is a re-enactment.

  • If I had a boat I would be hunting two major rivers I live beside but I do alot of road hunting...

  • i bet you enjoy hunting at the zoo to.

  • seven days of hard hunting?? Shooting a moose from a boat is not hunting. Try actually using your legs and making it at least a challenge. Sorry excuse for hunters!

  • I guess you missed the point. The hunt was on foot for seven days and then this situation presented itself. We don't cruise around looking for moose, this one just happened.

  • i doubt it.

  • Wicked!!! Run the river like that!!! case of beer and the rifle !! cant ask for anymore fun than that.

  • Nice video
