avatar was beautifully done - and it definetely deserved awards for make up, art, and all that visual effects - but seriously the plot and storyline is seen a million times before......
Ok I am going to have to say Avatar didn't deserve to win best picture or best director. The only reason why it got good reviews was because the special effects overshadowed it's dull storyline. I honestly don't understand why it was nominated in the first place.
Avatar was entertaining. Great CGI and interesting backgrounds, aliens, setting, and character design. But the story of the movie was essentially Pochahontas meets the smurfs. Im glad The Hurt Locker won. It had a way better story
@AKenjiB another thing avatar lacked that a saw in the hurt locker was numerous pointless scenes lacking speach / attractive scenery and a messed up timeline that made virtually no sence.
After seeing Avatar 4 times I can conclude that Avatar is not a very good film. Visually stunning, and incorporating revolutionary filmmaking yes. An original story that is interesting and told eloquently... not so much.
the hurt locker had a far more sophisticated stylization and the script blew the clunky cliches of Avatar out of the water. The Hurt Locker may not have been completely accurate but it was FAR more accurate than any other middle eastern conflict film to date. it only had holes picked in it because it did it so well. Avatar was good but Avatar lovers are generally people who like passive spoon fed entertainment. Avatar provides no challenge and is therefore an inferior cinematic achievement.
Thank you. I totally agree. For starters, hollywood has never been totally accurate, but this is probably one of the most accurate war films in recent years. People are only criticizing it now, because they're mad that it won. And besides even despite some innacuracies, The Hurt locker was filled with suspense, brilliant acting, an intense climax, and some truly emotional scenes. Avatar lacked this.
very simple, The Hurt Locker is a yankee movie where Americans are the heroes WOW!! that novelty, 9th district very well and this time it's a pain, Inglorious Basterds is fine but it's a genre often seen, however Avatar, is something quite different, shows the true face of man with the power of money (as in Iraq) and note, the bad guys are Americans, we should not give that face the American military, are better off as heroes to the Iraqis.

You can not compare 2012 with AVATAR, is a completely different movie, I agree that 2012 has very good special effects, but Avatar is very different, as it did in Cameron real time, saw the characters on the monitor as they are in while filming the movie, is a technology far more advanced than 2012, which certainly pleased me much, but I've already seen avatar 3 times in the cinema, and I hope to return to her again.
You fanboys give one reason which Avatar is better than "The Hurt Locker", "District 9" and "Inglorious Basterds" before say "Avatar is the best movie ever".
Is revolutionary of visual effects, so what??? "2012" has great visuals effects and because of that is a masterpiece or at least a good movie??? I don´t care about the visual effects if the movie has an interesting story, good performances and a good screenplay, Avatar don´t have that things, "Avatar" is a good movie but it didn´t deserved to win or at least been nominated.
@HoicnelixRex That night at the Oscars is sending a love letter to the United States, the United States, and whether THE HURT LOCKER had been created and directed in Spain had not taken a shit.
AVATAR DID NOT DESERVE TO WIN!! All Avatar deserved was best visuals/art (which it won). The acting was terrible (in fact, there was very little acting, just voices), the story line was Dances with Wolves meets Fern Gully. It did not deserve to win. Plain and simple. The best movie true won. Even James Cameron knew that. When you only use technology (blue screens etc.) and don't concentrate on acting, you will not win the Oscar.
make another avatar movie because it would probably get the oscar this time, and people would love it!! And even if you don't, anything you make is going to be amazing James Cameron!!!
the hurt locker had an amazing story setting and emotion to it on a much smaller budget than avatar which i can say was a great movie but to me all it was flashing effects.
I would personally have voted for Avatar for Best Picture, but I like your version of the results just as much. I loved Inglorious, but the Hurt Locker? Of ten movies, 5 or so being superb or game-changing, they had to pick that one? I saw it, and to the average viewer, it is flat, emotionless, and nothing special.
ummm...the lady and the reaper DIDN'T win! Logorama won! It seems it your fanboy moment of anger that Avatar lost out to a far superior film u didn't get ur facts straight.
hey it might have won the votes of some old actors and film geezers. and to you it might evem be better, but nto far far better. its just full of some political stuff thats hot right now, avatar will last forever. many of us fanboys jus wanted to maake it more everlasting with an awesome oscar, its really no big deal. i just got back from avatar again today and ti was fuckin packed still!
It`s just peace of metal gave out by some old boys that have`nt toock they ass to 3D cinema. I think more important that millions of people all over the world seen that MIRACLE, AVATAR, movie that changes people to better, movie of HOPE, LOVE, JUSTICE, fairytale. I hope that we can change this planet to something beautiful. I SEE YOU!!!
"some old boys that have`nt toock they ass to 3D cinema" The academy is comprised of over 6000 members. young old and every last one of them HAS to see all the nominees before voting. Check your spelling, grammar and facts next time.
I don want a Avatar 2 coz the story doenst need to be continued the plot is alright with one movie. Every sequel would burst the "excitementbubble" - its like Pirates of the carribean.. part 2 and 3 were kinda redundant! cheers
i agree when i thought about another one it kinda seemed crazy cuz i could not think of another way for the story to go. but if there has to be another one i can trust james cameron because when i think about terminator 2 its almost the exact same thing but better! all of jims sequels have been better than the original which seems impossible with avatar which is why i agree with you
Its hard to say who is the best actress/actor/s because all perform well according to subject of film,directors,screenwriters,filming,make-up etc,etc but at the end it`s the "taste" of the academy that determines who wins and since most of the american film industry is jewish, i doubt that any movie making a nazi story will be praised (i understand their regret)reguardless of the excellent dialoge, but what is more politically better for the majority of the public.
It's true that Avatar didn't win the Oscar, but is also true that Avatar will be remembered in centuries, like Titanic, Terminator and other movies of Cameron. Cameron don't worry, you are the real winner of this Oscar, the winner of millions of spectators all over the world.
Cameron is a great director! Oh sorry James, I should say THE BEST.
I thought Avatar was a great movie. However, you can't deny the recycled plot and shallow script. The Hurt Locker is a very deep movie with an unpredictable plot, which is why I think it deserved the Best Picture win.
Avatar should have won. i waited these from oscar. i think it was a unjust desicion. only 3 award omg :S avatar is the best movie i have ever seen. who takes care of oscar!!!!! forget it.
Avatar should of won. It may be a slight recycled story line but fuck me, it is one of the best movies ever (pardon my language) I am happy Hurt locker one best Director, but best picture?! not a chance! I find it ridiculous. Avatar should have one.
Avatar will be remembered as a revolution in 3D film, but hurt locker will be remembered for its great acting and unpredictable plot. Both deserve recognition but in the end the hurt locker mixed a great plot with some still pretty cool effects. Avatar was all about the visuals and thats why it did not win. Plus, generally sci- fi nominations don't win (ie star wars, ET) No offence, but I thought Avatars acting was a too Disney like, and not matched well with the plot.
why do people keep saying Avatar is only about visuals? Or just fantasy? Fantasy, as in mythology, can have deeper significance for our life than many realize. It is as through symbols how people dream. In Avatar, there was story about environment, about a universal spirituality, about unity and connection between all things,, about the nature of reality, about beauty and innocence versus modern system of man,, themes more universal and urgent in importance for humanity than H L
i know there is deep meaning, but how many people really talk about or even pay attention to that. Movies are for entertainment, and the stunning 3D effects is what made this Avatar revolutionary. There are tons of movies with deep meanings but they don't have the visual effects. Im not saying Avatar is bad, in fact it was one of the best movies I had scene until i watched The Hurt Locker. The acting in HL was perfect and the ending was not predictable, unlike Avatar which was just hero/ villan
The plot could be traced to Dances with Wolves and the Last Samurai, just to name two. I don't think I've ever seen, or heard of, a movie about bomb squads, which is odd. Hurt Locker produced an original story, as well as a touching experience.
I am so glad AVATAR did NOT win best picture!!!! Well deserved Oscar for the Hurt Locker!!!!! Oscars are about acting not computer generated BULL SHIT!!!
