funny you should say that as i went to view an Astra VXR at a garage only 12 miles from my home 4 days ago. While I was looking at it they drove in an R26 F1 in liquid yellow into the showroom and i walked straight over to it to have a peek lmao. Anyway i spoke to the guy and im allowed to test drive both tomorrow so i can probably finally decide :)

Ive read soooo many reviews on them in the last week or so and i agree with your verdict. The old Type-R is a better car in many ways than the new one. I also read that the labour and parts etc on the mk1 RS is very very high and that the right can be very nervy in lanes and on B roads due to the savage torque steer. Then i read the ST has the worst fuel consumption being a 2.5 lmao. I own an Astra diesel now and agree the build quilty is very good compared to Renaults :)

Ok guys i know this is stupid but i need opinions off people. Im nearly 22 and am looking to buy a hot hatch for around £9000. Ive narrowed it down to 5 cars but cant make my mind up.

The cars are;

The Vauxhall Astra VXR, the Ford Focus ST, The mk1 Ford Focus RS, Renaultsport Megane 225 and finally the Honda Civic Type-R(the newest one)

Im not looking for the fastest but the best to live with day to day. Any owners got an comments?? Im edging towards the VXR tbh

@90danwill I would go with the VXR or the Megane, the new Type-R isn't Honda's finest work, the MK1 focus Isn't bad at all but I think the others are more stylish, and the focus ST is a very fun car but the others are faster!

VXR is probably your best choice for speed but mainly day to day use because they are built very well! Renault are a massive bad of fun but tent to be more lightweight than everyday use.

@90danwill I own an FN2 civic type r which is the current model civic type r. Its far from the best hot hatch in standard form However Having owned the older civic aswell I can tell you the new one is much better looking and to drive. There is a cure for the ruff ride. Eibach springs. You can also have a fast road set up done which gives the car a complete transformation. But Fact. If I could go back a year when I bought my civic I would have now went for my 2nd choice A Megane R26.

I drive a Mégane RS: great quality, amazing car, impressing speed ! But there is no doubt that the Focus is a great car too.

The Mégane R26R is the fastest front wheel drive car ever, so respect !

@TheWarninger it's not the fastest. they say civic mugen type-r is even sharper on the track and there's also focus rs500 which may not handle as well as mugen and r26r do but it has a huge power advantage

@QuiteSpyrtY Actually the R26R used to hold the fastest lap record in Nurburgring for FWD cars with the time of 8:16.90 but that was taken down by the newer Renault Megane RS Trophy which did the lap around Nurburgring in 8:07.97. So these two are the 2 fastest FWD cars at the moment.

P.S. Ford Focus RS did the lap in 8:26, so it's power advantage didn't help much.

@Khazar01 ok lets not make this a stupid internet argument but just to tell you the EP3 type-r that did that time on Nurburgring is slower than the FN2 type-r (no matter what Clarkson says, it was proven times and times again) + i was talking about a much sharper mugen. and not to mention civic type-r has 100 hp less than focus. im out

@QuiteSpyrtY Maybe you're right, I was looking at the overall statistics on Nurburgring, the statistics were divided by several categories, production/street-lega) cars, Competition cars, Non-series/non-road-legal vehicles and motorcycles. And I didn't see the mugen's time recorded, but I guess It wasn't updated. Could you provide me with a link where I could see It's time?

And just to be clear, I don't want to start an argument eithet but I'd like to exchange information about these things :)

@urbanproof96 clarckson owned one for 11 years and never gone wrong once, renult break down all the time wid its cheap plastic glass replacement and it has to have scaffolding in the back so there is no room for the chicks after the club!!!! no radio, stereo or any thing!!!!!!
