  • my 18 month old is still rear facing in the graco comfort sport and if she outgrows it before 3 i will buy her a taller seat to rf longer

  • I have the same car seat for my child. It is a safe car seat. You can clearly see in the video that the car seat is not being used correctly.

  • I am in agreement with the others, while the child may meet the MINIMUM laws in your state, it isn't safe. My youngest is 3.5 years old, 37 lbs, and the size of a small 5 year old. I have her rearfacing still because it is SAFEST. She was in that same seat in this video (appears to be a MyRide 65 but I could be wrong) when we were involved in a serious accident a year ago. She was rearfacing when we were hit by a driver going 65 MPH w/o slowing. She was uninjured while I was seriously injured.

  • Rear facing as long as possible is better than risking internal decapitation.

  • Great to let people know this if they have this carseat. Just FYI they recently changed the safety standards and now it is strongly recommended to rear face your child till they are at least 2 years old but even longer if the car seat/weight requirements allow it. I suggest looking at some videos online as to why...it will show why it is so important. Not to feel bad, My husband and I didn't know either but after doing research it truly is significantly safer to rear face child as long as pos

  • I hope that when you got a new car seat you purchased an extended rear facing one and turned him back around rear facing.

  • wow

  • the baby is so cute

  • That child should be REAR facing! He is too young to be FORWARD facing. Since you took the trouble to make and upload this video, you should take the time to research the subject. My son is 15 months 31 inches rear facing, and will stay that way till age 3.

  • I do not like Graco anyway. Britax is the best and safest. Your son is so cute.

  • @skknight1971 Britax is not best and safest. A Graco is just as safe as a Britax because they both pass the same exact testing. The safest car seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and can be used correctly every single time!

  • @carseatmama688 the NTHSA only does minimum testing. Most indepent testing centers rate the Britax high due to additional safety features.Yes Graco meets the minimum government requirements and not much more. Yes the car seat needs to fit the child & automobile but that by no means makes it the safest. Britax has many more safety features than Graco. I do not know about you but I will not rely on minimum standards for my child's safety.

  • is this a graco comfortsport?

  • @ganja090604 Yes, it is.

  • Calm down everyone! this video was from 2010, car seats and regulations have changed since then. just be glad that someone warned you in case you have that same car seat!

  • In my country we don't have that upper clip because of safety regulations.

  • @sandravals what country is that?

  • He isn't big enough to be FF... RF for as long as the seat allows.

  • we have a graco nautilus and my daughter started being able to unclip it at a year old as well, eventually she figured out how to slide it down and get her arms out as well, we replaced the seat with a cosco now she can't unclip but can still slide the clip down and get her arms out

  • Oh, also this particular seat only goes rear facing to 30lbs, so this child was better off in a different seat anyway.

  • His straps are also supposed to be at or above his shoulders for forward facing (which he should not be) and they appear to be below his shoulders here. Also, you are just reinforcing the behavior by encouraging him to do this on camera. Did he stop unbuckling with the new seat? Sometimes you just have to distract them, and they will get bored with that and not mess with it.

  • Since you seem to be an expert you should know once is dangerous. If this child is able to unlatch then another child can.The seat is defective. I didn't see them encouraging him. Babies will play with anything that they can get their hands on. Should you really be trying to distract your baby while driving? Doing dangerous because you are distracted from driving and the chances of being in a wreck just went up 50%. I am not going to rely on my baby getting bord with it.

  • @skknight1971 Actually, yes I'm a certifed Child Passenger Safety Technician, so I do know what I'm talking about. This seat is NOT defective. The problem is the parent just needed to make sure the child didn't do that. Taping the child doing it is encouraging the child to continue doing it. Also, if the child was properly buckled into the seat, and he's not here, then he wouldn't be able to unbuckle the clips.

  • @carseatmama688 getting certified only cost 75 dollars and anyone can do it. The seat is defective. If a child can unlock it then it is defective. The chest was low in the video but if it was higher the child can reach it. Unless you have some type of degree not a certificate that anyone can get, I do not know how you can justify your opinion. Taping it was to make the public aware.

  • ohh my that is dangerous!!! ,,btw your son so cuteeeeeeeeeee .. a new car seat? YEAH!!! :D

  • I really hope you have him buckled in the right way in his new seat. The CHEST clip needs to be armpit level, not falling of his shoulder and you should only have enought space for a hang to go between the child and the straps.

Regardless if he was 27lbs and over a year it's MUCH safer to be RF'ing. My son was 30lbs on his first birthday and he is now almost 2 and I will not turn him until he outgrows his seat. Carseat safety is SO important.

  • Have you ever heard of carseat(dot)se? Under "webshop", you can import a swedish carseat. Swedish carseats go up to 50-55 lbs! They can be used until the top of the ears hit the shell. This isn't allowed in American carseats because if the kid is too tall then there is too much force on the carseat, which swedish car seats can withstand due to their footprops and tethers. I would seriously consider buying one. I would trust a Swedish seat to keep my kid safe.

  • This child does not appear to be buckled in correctly. His harness looks loose-fitting. It is sliding off his shoulder.

And while unrelated to the defect in this buckle, your should indeed be rear facing.

Children should rear face well past the age of 2. As long as their convertible car seat allows per weight and height.) A good car seat will rear face to 40 lbs. A 27 lb 1 year old is still teeny tiny. He is still 75% more likely to be killed in an accident when forward facing.

  • @xsunshinegirlie I agree...I have just been reading up on this. Our son is 17 months old and I was just researching how long we should keep him rear facing. On another note I am really glad that Graco got this couple a new carseat (so scary) and your son is super cute!

  • Wow, that is scary! I'm glad Graco gave you a new seat!

  • This video was posted to show that this particular car seat was unsafe. My son was 27lbs and over 1 year of age which meets criteria to be in a forward facing car-seat according to the local DPS. I was contacted by Graco and they bought me a brand new seat due to the de-fect of this certain model. It is not supposed to come undone according to the Manufacturer.

  • @rhinomaneighteen I agree that the buckle should not be able to be undone by the baby and it's good you sent it back; but the APA has changed their recomendations and children should remain refacing untill at least 2 years old age. Check out crash tests with forward vs rear faceing

  • @rhinomaneighteen Your child would be SAFER rear facing, Why wouldn't you want that? You had time to post a video about the chest clip, but wont consider rear facing? Check out videos on here about the importance of rear facing.

  • A one yr old should not be forward facing!!! This is not a defect of the car seat either. Some kids can just do this. It's just a precrash positioner anyways. It's actually supposed to break open in an accident

  • This is not the norm for graco seats.... All brands have defects!!! I had similar problem with an evenflo infant seat..I hope you were refunded!!! What seat did you go with after? Just curious!!

  • Why not distract the child, or correct the behavior instead of allowing the children to unfasten the clip. Both of my children can unfasten their clips, not only in Graco, but in Evenflo and Cosco seats. They don't do it because from the time they were discovered doing it they were corrected and distracted to focus on other things. Children love repetitive games, and that's what unfastening the clip is.

The clip is also not a safety device, it's designed to break in an accident. It is only

  • @castorsamantha intended to help with positioning the straps correctly. Other than in North America, car seats around the world do not have chest clips. In this country, they often do more harm than good since they are rarely used properly.

  • I have had the same issue with a similar seat. I hope you got a refund for this seat. It has been such a headache trying to contact Graco, and the retailer I bought this seat from. Graco has claimed they will reimburse me for the seat after I send it back, but in reality, shouldn't this clip be recalled???

Search this if you would like to see my daughter in her seat:

  • Yikes! I have a little strong man, too, so I guess we will be watching out for that!

  • it is model number 1762268

  • @rhinomaneighteen I had this same thing happen to my daughters car seat and she was 15 months old and able to get the car seat buckle undone. Had nothing to do with improper usage because I am very particular about having the kids in a car seat the right way.
