I went into the Woody Hayes center at Ohio State wearing my App State T-shirt and was escorted around like a special guest. It was funny, but I'm not sure OSU would've fared much better against App under similiar conditions. They played a great game against a Michigan team that went on to defeat Florida in their year end bowl game.

When UF beat OSU in the 2007 championship UF was more prepared, I will give you that. OSU, as always, had an extremely long break between the regular season and bowl games. All SEC fans can complain about that comment but its the truth, our guys get out of shape during that time and out of practice. This is one of the reasons why I would support a playoff.

Florida blew out a lot of teams, because at that time they were the best team in the country. Kentucky still won their bowl game, and still finished with a winning record. Although, I agree, Kentucky wouldn't have been able to beat them in 2008, but in 2007, UK would have beaten OSU, just like they beat the national champions LSU.

I have a feeling that App State will beat LSU. Right now nobody is taking them seriously, which is surprising, since last year the exact same thing happened. If the football team takes them as lightly as they fans are, expect App State to win by two touchdowns.
I think we're going to see the difference between Big Ten "powerhouses" and SEC dominance. The difference between Michigan and LSU is huge. Michigan might be good in a schedule of cupcakes like Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, etc, but they would get eaten alive in the SEC. The Big Ten gets by on a reputation from 30 to 50 years ago. It's not the grand conference it once was. LSU should have no trouble with Appalachian State.
The only real cupcakes in the Big Ten are Northwestern and Indiana usually, but nowadays you can add Minnesota to that list. Michigan State is good sometimes, same with Purdue, but they're usually just mediocore. OSU, Michigan, PSU, and Wisconsin are usually the "Big Four", but it's not exactly stratified, since sometimes Iowa and Illinois are good. It's actually a more competitive conference than given credit for. Every now and then, lowly teams give top teams a scare, or even beat them.
The only top Big Ten team that's had trouble with the SEC historically is Ohio State, with a modest 7-11-2 record against the conference. Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa actually have pretty good records against the SEC (bowl and non-bowl). I'd actually say that the Big Ten and the SEC are equals, and at most the SEC gets a slight edge. The SEC has cupcakes too, such as Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss State, and Kentucky. But one thing I will admit is that unlike the Big 10, there is no Big 4.
I think the App State vs LSU game will be a close game, there won't be a point difference beyond two touchdowns, I can almost guarantee that. I won't be shocked if LSU wins, but if it's some score like 49-14, that will shock me. But I have to admit, I respect LSU for scheduling them. Most teams would rather schedule someone like Coastal Carolina, who is one of the biggest cupcakes I've ever seen scheduled by a Division I-A team.

In 2006, Florida beat Ohio State, but who's to say if they were in the Big Ten that some twerpy team like Northwestern wouldn't have toppled them? Remember how in 2005 Wisconsin lost to a measely 7-5 Northwestern and got killed by Big Ten champ Penn State? They mauled your "mighty SEC" Auburn team. And in 2006 Ohio State was not the best team, just the luckiest, look at all those close games.

Lets do your 3 to 4 year prestige. Since 2006 Ohio States record is 34-7, 6 of those losses were to teams ranked in the top 3, the other loss was to #18 Illinois. In that same time Texas is also 34-7, with 5 losses to unranked teams, 1 loss to #1 Ohio State, and 1 loss to #7 Texas Tech. Going with your 3-4 years I would say Ohio State is the better team. Not because of the loss to Ohio State, you beat us in that time period too, but because of who each team lost to.

Notre Dame is an independent, they are not in a conference therefore they can not be in a weak conference lol. The reason they are ranked high is because of their prestige, NDs all time record is 831-284-42 with 12 national championships, third place only to Yale and Princeton who are both no longer division 1 schools.

I would also like to mention something about non conference schedules. SEC fans always say that Big Ten teams play cake non conference schedules. Well this is true for SEC teams also. Everyone complained when OSU played Troy but UF will play them next year, and App State, LSU will play App State. Whats the difference??? When UF beat OSU in the 2007 championship UF was more prepared, I will give you that. OSU, as always, had an extremely long break between the regular season and bowl games. All SEC fans can complain about that comment but its the truth, our guys get out of shape during that time and out of practice. This is one of the reasons why I would support a playoff.

Arizona state? hawaii?are they even taken serious as a football team? Im sure they(florida) could but not in november. also you act like west coast and midwest aint shit...thats why utah stomped alabama who was #1 for a long time also USC could beat any team in college football right now garunteed. Florida blew out a lot of teams, because at that time they were the best team in the country. Kentucky still won their bowl game, and still finished with a winning record. Although, I agree, Kentucky wouldn't have been able to beat them in 2008, but in 2007, UK would have beaten OSU, just like they beat the national champions LSU.

I have a feeling that App State will beat LSU. Right now nobody is taking them seriously, which is surprising, since last year the exact same thing happened. If the football team takes them as lightly as they fans are, expect App State to win by two touchdowns.

I think we're going to see the difference between Big Ten "powerhouses" and SEC dominance. The difference between Michigan and LSU is huge. Michigan might be good in a schedule of cupcakes like Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, etc, but they would get eaten alive in the SEC. The Big Ten gets by on a reputation from 30 to 50 years ago. It's not the grand conference it once was. LSU should have no trouble with Appalachian State.

The only real cupcakes in the Big Ten are Northwestern and Indiana usually, but nowadays you can add Minnesota to that list. Michigan State is good sometimes, same with Purdue, but they're usually just mediocore. OSU, Michigan, PSU, and Wisconsin are usually the "Big Four", but it's not exactly stratified, since sometimes Iowa and Illinois are good. It's actually a more competitive conference than given credit for. Every now and then, lowly teams give top teams a scare, or even beat them.

The only top Big Ten team that's had trouble with the SEC historically is Ohio State, with a modest 7-11-2 record against the conference. Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa actually have pretty good records against the SEC (bowl and non-bowl). I'd actually say that the Big Ten and the SEC are equals, and at most the SEC gets a slight edge. The SEC has cupcakes too, such as Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss State, and Kentucky. But one thing I will admit is that unlike the Big 10, there is no Big 4.

I think the App State vs LSU game will be a close game, there won't be a point difference beyond two touchdowns, I can almost guarantee that. I won't be shocked if LSU wins, but if it's some score like 49-14, that will shock me. But I have to admit, I respect LSU for scheduling them. Most teams would rather schedule someone like Coastal Carolina, who is one of the biggest cupcakes I've ever seen scheduled by a Division I-A team.

The overall SEC vs Big Ten record is pretty close to equal, with the Big Ten having a slight edge. In 2006, Florida beat Ohio State, but who's to say if they were in the Big Ten that some twerpy team like Northwestern wouldn't have toppled them? Remember how in 2005 Wisconsin lost to a measely 7-5 Northwestern and got killed by Big Ten champ Penn State? They mauled your "mighty SEC" Auburn team. And in 2006 Ohio State was not the best team, just the luckiest, look at all those close games.
