Saw them at Qstock open air 2007 or 2008. Don't remember which. Went to see them out of curiosity just before I was supposed to be heading out, but the dark melodies and pressing atmosphere sort of just hypnotized me right in that spot and I had to watch the whole damn thing. Gonna see Triptykon next month \,,/
I don't get that. They use a crude, raw sound and admittably the song isn't exactly the most technical metal song ever written, but the guys obviously can play.
T.Warrior----------The Doomfather. Sounds like he must play this a full step below original now, I like it!
And Celtic Frost were never anywhere near what is now called "goth". More like Visigoth if anything.....although they did have a brief lame sleaze glam period with some horrible lead guitarist. Monotheist was a return to FULL brutality and again with the very weird passages, just what I expect from a Celtic Frost album!!
how are they fathers of doom? i never thought of CF to be doom. don't get me wrong im a big CF fan i just never saw them as doom. besides Pentagram started doom metal

Mark 1: 14 Now after John was put under arrest Jesus went into Gal´i•lee, preaching the good news of God 15 and saying: The appointed time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Be repentant, YOU people, and have faith in the good news.
what i would have gived to have been there I missed seeing them just barely in 1985 because our ride didnt show for the concert and i was crushed. regretted it ever since
I see what you're saying but when you said there was "nothing goth about them" that just isn't so. Some songs off of Into The Pandemonium and Monotheist are far more goth sounding than metal. I guess Celtic Frost is much cooler to me than any of those genre labels because they have the elements of many different styles but never let themselves be pigeon holed by any particular style. I don't care much for Cold Lake but I respect Tom for having the balls to do it
Any style of music can have everything to do with any other style if the artist in question is creative enough & intelligent enough to make it happen. You obviously don't know anything about Celtic Frost . Tom & Martin told me when I met them how big of an influence Goth was & is to them. It doesn't take a genus to connect the dots
guitars sound downtuned... he once said in an interview that they didn't downtune on their early classics... But the monotheist stuff was downtuned; and this is monotheist-tour footage
bought this record in 88/89 ,went to my girlfriends house with record in bag.her mum asked to see wot i bought, she nearly had a fucking heartattack.makes me smile even now.
even in the old 80's clips where they look silly with the spikes and everything they are still cool because of the intensity of their music and overall style.
i dont know what your talking about he looks like some lame mall goth dork now. They looked much cooler in the 80's. Since when was wearing spikes in metal silly?
Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus & Christian Death were and still are very big influences on Tom and Martin. You could hear that in the "tragic" vocal style on "Into The Pandemonium" & they have always wore eye make up. Differing opinions I guess but I think you're not seeing the bigger picture with what they were doing. I agree with you that "Into The Pandemonium" is better than "Monotheist" but "Ain Elohim" & "Os Abysmi Vel Daath" are two of their most powerful songs since "To Mega Therion".
Anyone making fun of the way Tom looks needs to grow up & quit being so shallow. Aside from being immature it's also an insult to what ultimately matters here which just so happens to be the music. Celtic Frost has always been different & unique with not only their music but their image as well. They were always experimenting & even though I don't care for their "glam period", I respect them for all that they've done. They never became cliche like so many metal bands do.
Id take the glam years over the newer goth years. Fact is they haven't been good since Into the Pandemonium. They should have quit after that album Monotheist was a joke such a lame wannabe attempt at black metal. I like when they dont try they put out some of the best black metal ever but when they make an actual black metal album it totally sucks.
I love Monotheist myself and I don't think they were trying to make a "Black Metal" album either. They've just been Celtic Frost from day one and were experimenting all the while. They had the "goth" thing going on during the 1st three records as well so I don't get the negative "goth" connotation either. Furthermore, who really cares how they dress anyways? I wouldn't have cared when they went glam w/ Cold Lake if the record was still powerful and heavy the way Frost should be.
An excellent performance of one of their best songs, but I do wish Tom G. would lose the hat. It just doesn't fit. Short hair, long hair, bald, who cares, I don't like the hat. Only complaint. The silly hat. Hat. Drives me crazy.
i don't understand why they think the lead singer needs to make himself look like a fucking douchebag in that outfit. looks like a marylin manson loving methhead. just fat.
Can't understand why the feel the need to downtune so freakin' low. This song was heavy enough back in the day without dropping the tunning to the floor.
Hear! Hear! "Apocalyptic Raids" kind of set the stage for the first three CF albums. It has been re-issued (mine in 1997). To see the CF and Hellhammer discographies, read their histories on wikipedia. Enjoy....
@CelticFrost1992 they have 6 studio albums&3 eps wich is similar to an album i think the only difference is theres not enough new songs to make a full album so they called them eps.(im pretty sure thats what an ep is ) look up celticfrost/bio &look under albums&eps it will tell u all the namess&dates of everything..mattp///.;
Read about their discography before diving in. Celtic Frost is VERY frustrating and uneven, but if you start w/ the Hellhammer demos and work your way forward to Monotheist, you'll get to experience a band being born, attaining greatness, losing their minds and finally reclaiming their throne with their best album ever. It's hugely rewarding.
Also, I can't recommend enough the Hellhammer book out on Bazillion points. Shows what four kids with some ambition can accomplish.
@CelticFrost1992 Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion are amazing. Just get those two albums and forget the rest. Cold Lake and Vanity Nemesis blow ass chunks and Into The Pandemonium sounds more like Metallica than CF.
Into the Pandemonium... like Metallica? Hmm..... have you ever heard it?
