  • WOW!

  • JIMMY PAGE CARRYED THIS

  • Goddamn.. never saw this til now.. It's like Page had the whole Zeppelin thing in his head and was already way ahead of the other dudes. It almost feels like he came from the future and got stuck with a high school band and was trying to teach them how it goes. the vocals are embarrassing

  • Awesome ... You ass clowns

  • This is a really interesting clip. I guess this was pretty much the moment at which the penny finally dropped that Page had outgrown the Yardbirds. They just can't keep up with him, it really feels like he's pushing the material towards the place it wants to be, and the rest of the band either don't get it or just don't have the musical chops to go with him. Its actually frustrating... but as a pre-Zeppelin artifact, it's really very cool.

  • enter awesome guitar riff. then "ya",...stop..."ya"..plz.."YA".STFU.

  • Wow! Even back then Jimmy was bowing the guitar...

  • after the set the drummer was put ina space capsule and shot to the moon

  • After the gig, Jimmy was due to have an early dinner of Claret and Prime Rib with the Queen.

  • altough I prefer the led zep version its still nice to see how the song evolved from jake's holmes verison into one of rocks finest songs one thing I dont like about this version is keiths singing I prefer roberts

  • I think Page had a vision. It was working itself out. He stuck to it until it came to fruition. Nothing would have stopped him.

  • Is this guy serious? Plant was badass!!! Page is always awesome... But wow this guy cannot sing!!

  • The Yardbirds were a great pop/blues/rock band with Clapton and Beck....imo not so much with Page. Not Page's fault he just wanted to go in a different heavier direction...and he finally found his players.

  • Im glad Jimmy realized he was going nowhere with those losers....thus...Led Zeppelin!

  • @ARVINABATT Losers? Mate are you a fucking moron?

  • @ChocoKidd11 Mate???? Who uses that word ? Anyway, that singer sucks and you know it! So I should of said LOSER!!!!!!!

  • @ChocoKidd11 Mate????? Maybe I should have just said Loser!!!!!! That singer sucks!

  • trippy

  • The singer is doing whatever it takes to be noticed when it's not his time. He should have left Jimmy to do his amazing solo. He didn't need to play harmonica or make stupid noises (Robert made noises, but they actually sounded good).

  • I assume Jimmy Page is on guitar as it sounds just like Zeppelin. Also he is the only one who plays with a violin bow !

  • that french guy is so freakin annoying

  • He does not suck,,,he just is not Robert Plant,,,nobody is

  • Yea he did suck for the most part..Listen to the body of work? I bough those albums when they came out . He cut it on some stuff but mostly he was a pretty lame singer. Beck agrees by the way .

  • @omstrat Yup, I agree with you. His singing is generally a bad joke.

  • Keith Relf really sucked

  • @omstrat Keith Relf sucked? You are really showing your ignorance. Try listening to the body of work.

  • It looks like a White Album song.

  • What a British accent! But pretty song.

  • jake holmes also went on to be a very successful jingle writer.

    Thanks for the post.

  • "I Can't Quit You Babe" was Willie Dixon's

    "Killing Floor" was Howlin' Wolf

  • @THEGREENV1 you know your blues dude outstanding!

  • Jake Holmes wrote this song. You can find the original on his album "The Above ground Sound of Jake Holmes"

  • The songs that were plagiarized were White Summer (0n the Live at the Anderson Theater Yardbirds LP -- this was note for note Davy Grahams arrangement of She Moved Through the Fair), Black Mountain Side (note for note Bert Jansch's arrangement of Black Waterside), Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Anne Bredon was not credited as composer) and Whole Lotta Love (lyrics by Willie Dixon who collected 15 million for that from LZ). Jones was/is a brilliant arranger -probably the best musician in the band.

  • @Aviv52 Jimmy Page was the real wizard in the studio. Jimmy did all the production work while Glyn Johns did the engineering. Page had the vision and direction for the band…

  • Led Zeppelin did not steal this song. Jimmy Page, the guitarist of the Yardbirds and then Led Zeppelin wrote this song and when the Yardbirds broke up, he brought it to Zeppelin. It was always Page's

  • this was Page's song he took to LZ when the birds broke up.

  • in other words,,, if I took a Ford Mustang, and modified it to be the winner at a racing event,, Is Ford Motors due a portion of the prize ?

  • @rrfann Yes, but you wouldn't put your name and logo no the grill in order to claim you 'made' the car to begin with. LZ, as fantastic of a group as they are, did put their names on some songs obviously written by someone else. Vanilla Ice never gave credit to Queen for "Ice Ice Baby" until the lawsuit -- and Led Zeppelin didn't give proper credit until the lawsuit. I love LZ and if it wasn't for them I'd have never heard of the original artists. So you were definitely correct there.

  • @jtmichaelson the vanilla ice thing was an unpaid for sample, totally diff concept.

  • even if this or any other LZ song was brought to court for plagarism,,, where would the lawsuit be filed? The U.S. or G.B.? For me, personally, I could not deny LZ the rights to any of the monies due, because they were the ones that brought this to where it is today. Without LZ's version, who would ever give a second thought to the original source? The original source would have remained in obscurity, without obtaining any sort of credit or fame,,possibly.

  • this videos great but when you compare it to when robert plant starts singing in the zep version... "BEEN DAZED AND CONFUUUSED!!" there's just no comparison :)

  • John Bonham !! really rocks :D !!

  • @dnlmusic2 that's not bonzo :/

  • Dat Page!

  • Relf was 33 when he died from electrocution, at his home, while playing his improperly grounded electric guitar.[2] At the time, Relf was rehearsing new material for the regrouping of the original Renaissance line-up, called Illusion.

Relf's posthumous 1992 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction with the Yardbirds was represented by his widow April, and son Danny.

  • The Yardbirds credit Holmes on their version.

  • Those are the original lyrics written by Jake Holmes

  • video director to cameraman - "On the kick ass solo you should hold on the profile of the singer's mustache!"

  • @pspiddy I love that the camera pans away the exact moment the solo starts.

  • Man, this was stolen directly from the true songwriter: Jake Holmes. They didn't evn change the lyrics nor the name of the damn song. Page was one of the greatest guitarists ever - no doubt. But he had the musical integrity of a snake.

Oh, if you are interested, you can find the original here on youtube. Jake Holmes dazed and confused.

  • @meilankev They actually changed the lyrics completely.

  • @meilankev how can we be sure he didn't sell the rights?

  • I think Page made a wise move when he decided to form Zep.

  • This is kinda good, interesting even...... But oh how Plant, Jones, and Bonham breathed everlasting life into this.....

  • fk this is painful

  • these guy know anybody in Led Zip or vise virsa

  • @djlegand Jim page is the guitarist for Zepplin before they called themselfs Zepplin they went by the New Yardbirds

  • everyone has a bad day once ...hahaHa

  • 10 veces mejor la versión de led zeppelin

  • Tele's my choice...

  • that fag who intoduces the yardbirds in the beginning is annoying and speaks horrible english. what country is he from anyways?(just give it a guess)

  • @LedZepMan97 he is not speaking english you moron, he's speaking french

  • @aaabbbccx he wuz saying english words though and it was horrible and i knew he was speaking french so im not a moron

  • @aaabbbccx No French there...Who's the Moron?

  • @Edster52m Nozzle: the announcer is TOTALLY speaking French... His name is André Weinfeld, the show (on French TV) was called "Bouton Rouge".

And, for what it's worth, Led Zeppelin was originally named the New Yardbirds. Although the musical idea was conceived of by Page, he couldn't have pulled it off without the unique and marvelous collaboration of Plant, Jones, and Bonham.

  • @jtmichaelson you are probably right. if youre a zeppelin fan (like me) youd probably think this version sounds like shit. the song would be worse if jimmy page wasnt in it. thank God Jimmy Page started led zeppelin and they made their 1000x's better version of this song

  • @LedZepMan97 ive never been a huge zeppelin fan . but i go to hold my hands up at the awesomeness of jimmy page. one of the greatest guitarists of all time..

  • @davyboy62 at least you appreciate jimmy page

  • Keith Relf was a fine singer in the day, but he must've shit two bricks when he heard Robert Plant cover this.

  • @jtmichaelson dido Bonham/McCarthy!

  • @Emilyplays1 As a drummer (just not old enough to remember the first three Zeppelin albums in their original release days) I'd have to say many musicians must've shit bricks when they heard what these guys could do. John Bonham still holds up today as a great drummer -- even in a world that has emulated his style and even perfected his style. He still remains up there in the top of his class. I just wished more people would see John Paul Jones' contributions to the band.

  • @jtmichaelson I'll take the Yardbirds body of work anytime, anyday over Led Zeppelin and so would many others. Zeppelin did a good job on the song.

  • @jtmichaelson Well keith relf knows he didnt write it and knows jimmy didnt either Jake holmes is the original writer of dazed and confused

  • Anyone who dismisses the Telecaster has probably never played one. It is still available in 1952 spec with pretty much no changes at all, because the basic design has never really needed improvement.

Many guitar players believe that Leo Fender got it right first time.

  • 2:13 lol

  • He has recorded "Since I've been loving you" from LZ III using this telecaster. It sounds not bad, isn'n it? And moreover he used it throughout all early concerts and tours of Led Zeppelin until he bought Les Paul for $500. But also after that purchase he used this telecaster on recordings. He had also another gibson guitar that he played with The Yardbirds, it was some ES-335. You can see him playing it in "Blow Up" movie with The Yardbirds. But during that period he used telecaster as well.

  • loll,,weird

  • Bonzo drums this one WAY better. Jus' sayin

  • Was Paige still in The Yardbirds in 1968?

  • @StevenTalks1 Zeppelin formed in 1969.

  • @racefan32 1968

  • @Voughtrazer Right late '68it was Zeppelin 1 that came out 12 January 1969.

  • Love it - did then, still do. Perhaps I'm just Dazed and Confused. Thank you for sharing.

  • Singer-songwriter Jake Holmes wrote and recorded Dazed and Confused for his debut solo album "The Above Ground Sound" of Jake Holmes, released in June 1967. When the Yardbirds disbanded in 1968, the song "Dazed and Confused" was re-worked by Page yet again, this time while as a member of Led Zeppelin.

  • sorry but this doesnt even come close to led zepplins version!!!

  • @donguitarra93 Well it wouldn't. It was an early version. The song was re-worked many times before Led Zep put on an album..

  • It's totally diferent of Led Zeppelin's version, but it's a fuckin' great song! I'm sure this should call Psychedelic Blues!!

  • 134 people are still just 'dazed and confused'....

  • Who knew, I thought it was a original Zepplin song!

  • Is the singer having an off night or something? Hes completely lifeless, like hes half asleep.

  • The original song was made by Jefferson Airplane, then the Yardbirds covered the song and called it "I'm Confused" not "Dazed and Confused"

  • wow so many negative coments...a song has to start from somewhere

  • Wow, I never knew this existed. I am pretty torn...

  • That singer was absolutely dreadful!

  • no mystery why Page started Zeppelin....

  • cant wait for the new yardbirds to relase their debut album the bands called ...lead zeppelin something like that led zeppelin

  • @funcooldrew2 They could go far.

  • lol singer w/ hangover

  • I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

  • can someone who knows please tell me what the current line up of the band performing this song here is ?... thanks

  • @arealOpia1991 Keith Relfh, Jimmy Page, Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty

  • shitty singing, worse than a karaoke nightmare

  • hahahaha, the yardbirds were shit, lol. no imagination as a band, Page is playing the same riffs almost as the Zep version, but the band aren't there with him, just goes to show how important it is to have a good drummer in a band, (+ JPJ and RP)

  • This sounds like a bad cover version in comparison with the later monumental Zep version. Thank-the-lord Jimmy Page went on to form Led Zeppelin with Plant, Bonham & Jones.

  • O'hhh shiiitt!!! First time I ever seen this kicks ass big time

  • I hear a car alarm....

  • I've seen a couple of other clips from this show (French television, "Bouton Rouge", maybe? I think one of them was with Pink Floyd) and I find it hilarious (and somewhat disturbing) that the "host" sits behind the band (at, what, a reel-to-reel tape recorder?) while it performs...I can't imagine a more awkward role, unless they'd put him in go-go boots and a cage, and had him dance...

  • Really silly idea to play the geetar with a violin bow

  • Really miss John Bonham's drums on this . . . .

  • @13thlaw But imagine if Bonzo had looked like that guy and still played like Bonzo....oh man.... ;)

  • this song fits better to robert plant

  • I honestly didn't know that this was Page's Yardbirds tune until now......

  • TRULLY SARCASTIC N AWESOME IN IT'S EXSISTANTS!!!!

  • what an ugly telecaster guitar

  • @juanmanueltorress It's sexier than you, ugly boy

  • @juanmanueltorress its beautiful

  • @juanmanueltorress NO such thing as an ugly Telecaster!! :P

  • @juanmanueltorress Ugly like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Last I heard it was valued at over $100,000. Quite a bit for an "Ugly" guitar don't ya' think?

  • @Jakexx01 Lol agreed, but come on, have you ever seen a FAMOUS guitarrist with a telecaster?? i mean a really rich and famous guitar player does not use a telecaster, they always use stratocaster (wich to me seems way more beautiful) or a gibson guitar, you have to admit it

  • @juanmanueltorress Keith Richards uses a telecaster

  • @juanmanueltorress Keith Richards. Clapton in Blind Faith. Watch the Hyde Park Concert video. Whether or not you like the genre, there are a multitude of smokin' session players in Nashville with Teles. Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan. Rich Robinson - Black Crowes. Prince. Wealth nor fame should enter the equation. The simple truth is there are certain tones only found in a Tele. A guitar is a tool nothing more. Musicians use various guitars for sonic texture. That's why Page taps his LP p'ups.

  • @juanmanueltorress yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

  • It's interesting how songs mutate into their final form, and even further the more they're played live. Page had envisioned this song but the members of the YBs were lost to execute the vision The thunder of LZ's rhythm section, more modern amplification, along with Plant's searing voice and darker lyrics seems to complete the idea. A year can be like a life time. The world wasn't ready to accept this until 1969, giving Page time to work the magic. Soul of a woman was created below! Spooky...!

  • @Jakexx01 spooky? it sure is! remember Plant was married when he changed the lyrics. He knew from experience!!!

  • @goshawk1974 Spooky, You bet. Now I've ten children of my own. I got another child on the way that makes eleven,,,but I'm in constant heaven. BRRRRRR. Later it he began singing, Call back some month when I send you to hell. Now that's creepy!

  • Well.....the lyrics and the lead vocal are just a bit more, ummmm ......angry in the Zeppelin version aren't they?

  • Very interesting....

    Love the Yardbirds and Zepp!!!

  • Wow, what an historic piece of footage.

"You know, there's no escaping our roots."-Robert Plant

  • This is great stuff. If this would of not happened Leds version would not be and just think how that would suck.

  • Pretty cool

  • I know Plant's version is better. But please understand the historic value of this piece.

  • Wow I had no idea! awesome, wish I had someone to share this with!

  • @toprobone Agree! ;o(

  • I luv the douche bag VJ. Too Fab!!

  • jimmy rullz even when he was in this band the other members suck though

  • wow the Led zepplin versions about 1000 times better

  • Does anyone know if that resonance on the guitar is through a leslie speaker, if not what is it? Cheers,

  • Comment removed

  • MAN!!! Plant does this with 1000000000000000000000000000 times more soul!!!!

  • @MrAndreSChr My fucking ass , I love Zeppelin but this is by far the best version of this song . So raw and Keith is a much better harp player then Plant .

  • @stairwaykyle Congratulations for you!!

  • the song is just a skeleton. without plant's vocal and page's solo, not to mention, violin solo, there is not much to distinguish it from many other blues songs.

  • in terms of "misappropriating" other people's songs, there is a legal theory called "transformative use", which is to say that if you add enough artistically to it, that at some point, it becomes a new original work. whatever Jake holmes did was certainly a building block for LZ, but is light years behind. as is this yardbirds version. in any case blues singers commonly played all sorts of blues interchangeably. you couldnt be a blues singer without actually playing "blues" or songs in the genre

  • Jimmy Page ripped this song off from Jake Holmes, as they did with some blues songs. The were real rip offs. It is ironic, but try to borrow something from a Led Balloon song and they will have their lawyers all over you like stink on shit.

  • It seems like he can't keep up with Page. I still love it although I prefer the Supershow 1969 version.

Oh, who cares, just enjoy the music!!! -.-

  • I was looking up "dazed and confused" because I'm learning the bass line, I was surprised to find this version, but It does make sense, Jimmy was in the Yardbirds, When the Yardbirds broke up, Jimmy had sole control over the name, Jimmy reformed the band calling themselve "The New Yardbirds" with Keith Moon on drums, Keith told Jimmy "This new sound you got will go over like lead zepplin" Hence Led Zepplin was born.

  • @wiley2068 Page didn't have control over the name, hence when he started calling his band the New Yardbirds he was forced to change it due to a lawsuit. THAT'S why he called his new band Led Zep.

  • @DocWyoming Hey doc you should see the history of Zep. honestly

  • @wiley2068 Hey Wiley, I do know their history. That's why I know for a fact that you're wrong. Honestly. Look it up. Read. Learn. Then come back and concede that you've bought into mythology. They were billed either as the Yardbirds or Yardbirds with Jimmy Page. Any attempt to keep the name after the Scandinavian tour led to a lawsuit.

  • @wiley2068 When Chris Dreja found out that manager Peter Grant was sending the group out to tour England (October 18-19) under the name "Yardbirds", the ex-Yardbird informed Page and Grant that he did not want them to use said name. The name change to "Led Zeppelin" was announced in the October 19, 1968 issue of "Disc" magazine. Dreja's request caused the name change - Page has never owned it.

  • @DocWyoming That isn't the reason! Get your facts right.

  • @WEBERisAbadCOACH What are you even replying to? My facts are straight. You're one confused mother fucker, you can't even demonstrate your claim.

  • @wiley2068 Dang dude, your whole paragraph is "CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR" Listen to your old bud DocWyoming, he's spot on!!!

  • Thank god for Robert Plant !!

  • I'm confused and dazed...

  • Thank the heavens they faltered and Page readjusted the line-up.

  • @E139486 Imagine what it would be like if they didn't fall apart :)

  • People slagging Relf off should keep in mind a few things:

1-The audio set up for this performance is terrible anyway.

    2-He only had one lung.

3-At this point, he was burnt out on the Yardbirds as was the drummer. Why put the effort in if you've stopped enjoying it?

People should check out the Armageddon album he did in 1975. Or the "Five Live Yardbirds" album.

  • @theredraven Point well taken. I think this version of the Yardbirds broke up not long after this program aired. Page would end up with putting together another band to finish their tour commitments in Scandinavia. . . . and the rest, as they say, would be history.

  • @theredraven I would if my ears were'nt bleeding from Keith's singing!

  • In America you're playing guitar and touch mike plugged into reversed polarity you get your lips zapped. In England you could end up dead. RIP Keith

  • @ronnieguitar99 Which, if memory serves me correctly, is exactly how Keith died.

  • Robert Plant's just a "tad" better :)

  • @MrAlienMachine funny MR. Machine, if "TAD" means " A MILLION TIMES BETTER" I agree.

  • boogie nights?.....what ? ....yardbird.......its all about home depot

  • now i know why the yardbirds broke up, the singer!!!

  • @goshawk1974 No, the singer (Keith Relf) is great. I agree that Robert Plant's voice may fits better with this song, but Keith does some great work on other Yardbirds songs.

  • @0PERAT0RPLEASE I feel bad now, I did'nt keith died while getting a sex change operation!

  • @goshawk1974 He didn't die getting a sex change operation, he got electrocuted while playing a badly plugged in electric guitar.
