  • Great vid! I have a Kenwood TH-f6a how did u make your holder for the f6?

  • @MarvinMcGill tnx, I made it out of ally sheet, nice and easy to fold etc. Its rivited to the boom extension which is also ally folded into an L shape.

I am lucky as I am a qualified Welding and Fabrication Engineer/Lecturer, so its just a bit of playing around with metal hi hi.

Good Luck and all the best

  • Way cool! Amazing that you need so much gain to receive, but you can sometimes hit the sats with with a rubber duck!

  • Thx again call sign is kd0iqr, truck'n round the country need'n better antenna, wiped out last one on tree wanna try a beam on top of some mtn's 73.

  • Great vid, I see that you are using two HT's wouldn't the TH-F6A (using a duplexer?) be able to handle SAT Comms by itself? I only have TH-F6A, the other half won't let me get two ;-)

  • Tnx, you can use the one rig but it is easiest when you can TX on one and RX on the other. You hear when your in to the bird as well as changing down freq adjusting Doppler same time as TXing. But single unit and duplexer will do the job but not for me!

  • great job just getting into working satelites my self 73's de M6PIP

  • Tnx Paul, will listen out for you. G L

  • Thanks for all your videos. Just fyi a compass works better when used parallel to the ground.Great spot for the inclinometer though.

  • Thank You, and I know what you mean about the compass working properly hi. I set up horizontally and go through the pass before the sat get here.

    all the best 73

  • Very interesting, something that really interests me, but never tried, YET! But after seeing this video, I think I will put an serious effort into it.

    Thanks

  • Hi all, specially 2E0HTS Simon,

Can anyone explain me what does "5 by 9" signal report means ?

    Thanks !

  • Hi there,

It comes from morse code when short sentences a bit like sms was used to save time.

    these days It now means

    audio quality measured 1 - 5

    signal strength 0 - 9

    good copy would be 5/9

    73 good luck

  • Thank you !

  • Once again..great vid SI, I like the way you used the cam looking down the set-up.

  • Ok, maybe one of this days. Tell me were i can cath your signal... same times i am on 20 m on 14189.00. 73 from Portugal

  • I have sent you an invite to Twitter where we can arrange sked ;-)

  • i ve been listening on ao-51 and ao-27, so-50 etc... but only have a 2 meter beam, still in the plannign stages for a home made Arrow antenna, got a wouxun Udv1 off ebay ( dual bander for 108.00 US )

  • Sounds good, you could do with a 70cm beam as well and you should be able to get in no problem. I made an Arrow type yagi a while back but still like the IOIo as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide to build.

    73 and thanks again.

p.s the UDV1 should be good - nice price.

  • Very good Simon. Your tripod is FB! I was just wondering if you can put the arrow in vertical polarisation with your HB tripod?

  • Thanks J.P, and yes it will go vertical or horizontal very easily with the moveable mount on the tripod.

I liked the MM mobile operating you did in your video. Keep up the good work and 73

  • Should have known of course. Okay, 73 es CU on the bands or birds if we're lucky nuff

  • this video needs about 100% more dudley

  • No problem, next time I'll do the filming and Dudley can do the radio stuff.

Thanks again and He will be back soon!

  • One hell of a rig up.....tell your a fabricator Simon.....very nice video......DAVE (M0OGY)

  • Tnx Dave, glad you like my bits of aluminium ;-)
