The War could NOT have been about slavery, since the South GAVE UP their claim to the territories by seceding; and there was NO QUESTION of federal law ending slavery, since the 5th Amendment prevented doing so without just compensation-- which the North had NO intention of paying, and would have been THREE BILLION DOLLARS. They also lacked the states to end it by amendment, which would require more free states than we have TODAY.

So the North COULDN'T end slavery even if they wanted to.

The ultimate hypocrisy is the fact that the war was simply waged purely for POWER-- not emancipation-- and yet the North continues that shameless LIE of the reverse!

This pertains to Uncle Remus in "Song of the South," i.e. how slaves were better off before the war-- which is true, since the political and economic situation was much better, and so the slaves fared better as a whole.

So by simply throwing the whole nation into chaos and civil conflict, made things much worse for them.
