  • May be if they had stopped for a while, like SOAD, or gone back to the road..maybe they would still singing today.

  • Strange how 10 years before this he was playing Shea stadium.

  • @Burnzi2 Uau..thats true..

  • I loved Paul when I was young because I thought he was "The Cute One'". As I became a Beatles Fan, I understood John' s brillant ability to express himself. He is truly the most amazing man in life experiences. He changed the face of music, peace n how we look at life. I miss John so much.

  • I almost wish John had been deported from the States. If he had, he might be alive today. I guess it was just fate the way it worked out...

  • @typhon3808 Idk, that loser that shot him would have just gone to wherever he was. :(

  • @crocetti1984 Well, you may be right. Anyway, I guess it's a moot point now. Unfortunately...

  • @crocetti1984 That "loser" that shot John Lennon was a mentally handicapped man who was on drugs. He had barely any control of what he was doing. I love the Beatles, John Lennon is my hero and Im very sad that he had to have died so young, but you should probably get your facts straight before you start judging people.

  • @Legodudette He had complete control of what he did. He made the choice to go out there and stake out the Dakota for hours. He made the choice to pull the trigger. He wanted to be famous for shooting someone famous. That, in my book, makes him a loser.

  • @crocetti1984 I agree, and he likes to talk about his place in history too

  • Compare lennon's sincerity with Bono's bullshitty attitude, or with Liam Gallagher for example.

  • @gnossticc So true. Liam tries to be Lennon but turns out more like Axl Rose.

  • STOP BLINKING!!

  • Fortunately they in spite of being "bored" did really great music til the end...A great feat in itself to channel such negativity and to convert into great music!

  • @gnossticc Well, that's why they were geniuses...their life experiences channeled into creativity. Remember that many of the great composers were in greater distress, Chopin and Beethoven for example were very ill when writing their most majestic musical pieces.

  • I really like him in this interview. So natural and relaxed, like he's not trying to prove anything, he's just there...talking. And I'm glad that he's alone, finally, in an interview, without Yoko.

  • I remember in April 75 waiting for 1 am to come so I could see this show , instead there was a program interruption , man was I pissed. They didn't show it until a week later. I didn't see it again until Dec 9 1980 , it was hard to watch that night, all I could think of was how I had met him a month before the show was taped and how great those times were and how fucked up the times were now. Just like millions of others I took his murder verry personal.

  • just another fucking musician guys,,,,

  • This interviewer is absolutely abysmal - the questions he is asking are ridiculous.

  • Those are some crazy caterpillars that anchor's got groovin' at the video's intro! HA. :-)

  • Just another musician? The vietnam war came to an end with thousands of protesters in front of the white house all singing/chanting "all we are saying, is give peace a chance"

He wasn't even a musician let alone just another one. John Lennon was a true artist.

  • This interview is of 1980. DOUBLE FANTASY was released that year.

  • @Nostalgico80

This interview was in 1975. 5 years before he died.

  • "We didn't try and change our accent which in England were looked down on and probably still are". John Lennon you make me proud to come from Liverpool and have the Scouse accent. 19 Years of age and my taste in music is impeccable - John Lennon.

  • Not making a judgement here ...but john seems very different without yoko around ....a bit looser perhaps ....he seemed to defer to her a lot ...interesting to see him look so relaxed ....i think this was just after his " lost weekend " ....right Paul - get Georges boy and johns boys and ringo - and do a " tribute to the Beatles " AYE .

  • I feel like I know him and whenever I read comments or people talking about his assassination I can't help but cry... :'(

  • Finally, an interview without Yoko!!

And look, we actually get some words from John without Yoko butting after every sentence.

  • This is a great interview. Tom & John play off of each other quite well. I remember watching this when it first aired. Thanks for posting it!

  • I'll never forget that night. My friend called me up to tell me that John had been shot. I had never heard him cry before.

  • Beatles cleaned up the image of rock as fun for the whole family. A mixed blessing.

  • EAT ONLY VEGAN FOOD

  • @soskisoskisoski Perhaps Burger King may rule?

  • So nice to listen and watch John: Thank you for this piece of history .

  • Can you imagine if a singer said what he says at 2:30-3:05 today? I'm just thinking about how the media makes such a huge deal out of everything now... I can see it now "Singer says if you don't like his music, you are racist!" I'm just jokin about how it's impossible to be "politically correct" now lol... Can't say nething wo offending some1 these days

  • Yoko is a dragon lady

  • I like John and Yoko no matter what hair cuts and grows they got. What they tried to achieve is beyond time.

  • @momox4isfunny just john, yoko didn't do shit

  • i miss tom snyder, too, that wacky man

  • I miss John. I wasn't even born when he died. I have read a few biographies about John and he was definently human, It is hard to see that for many diehard fans. He wasn't a good father for awhile, but he was HUMAN. He was also VERY VERY intelligent.

  • asshole interviewer

  • My mother whipped my ass good when I stood up late to watch Tom Snyder. God bless you both Tom and John.

  • '' And those silly haircuts, yeah''- Tom Snyder. What a silly comment, Tom. Yeah.

  • "you know the girls see him, ooh ooh." Haha, girls still do that when they see him.

  • 'I can't go anywhere' The terrible price of fame.........became even worse in it's tragic and violent conclusion on 8th December 1980. Fame is an illusion. It is but a recognisable face amongst many others regardless of the reason. Some - such as The Beatles - deserve their adulation and admiration, but so many do not. Fame can be a fleeting and fickle mistress preying on the passing desires of others. It is not worthy of our regard.

End the cult of media-driven celebrity.

  • even to this day - my heart breaks when I think of his death

  • Tom Snyder was one of the biggest boobs on television. He looks like he lived in his own ass.

  • The BBC Interviewer is so much better then this guy

  • Sad that he could not enjoy his alloted free time at last only to have some whacko take him down instead....

  • Did he just distractedly look into a little screen at 10:04 and and say "I look funny from the side?" :) Too cute.

  • It's interesting that the host mentions there is no filter to "filter out her southern accent" but ironically today we can do that pretty easily.

  • hypocrite

  • is yoko still with sam havodtoy?

  • 09:26

holy shit lennon talking about george carlin

  • Tom snyder was super gay... u guys should see the bowie's interview !!!

  • all single "wacko's" failures in life but one thing ,succesful asasinations.Right!!Forgot possibly Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix.Bullets make more money then records trust me.Records last forever bullets can only be used once, then need to be replaced.

  • To hear IF LENNON WERE HERE type in my name at itunes or any download! Thanks

  • Snyder acts so much like Dan Akroyd

  • This is gonna sound horrible but George Carlin (RIP) once said the wrong two Beatles died first. I can't help but feel the same way. It's not that I'm not a Macca fan and Ringo's cool too...but MAN I wish John Lennon still lived. Paul don't speak about politics. John woulda been all over whats going on today.

  • @bones22j Do you by chance know where that was said? As terrible as it is, I really do tend to agree with his statement wholly and completely.

  • If he'd just taken the car all the way inside the building alcove instead of getting out at the curb he'd likely still be alive today.

  • Snyder isn't that good an interviewer.

  • Lennon would have been the first to say, "I'm not a saint. Don't make me into one." Yet, because of the way he died, everyone treats him like one.

  • @fuckscum just remember there are two sides to every story.

  • Anybody that has the conception that John Lennon was a complete peace loving person should read Lennon by Cynthia Lennon. He wanted nothing to do with his first son, refused to pay support, punched his wife to be in the face...yep 'imagine all the people...'

  • @fuckscum I was just about to post something about that. I find it really interesting how imperfect John Lennon, the man, really was. He's become a legend and no one really wants to hear about that aspect of John. Lennon fans, don't get me wrong.I am a huge Beatles fan. I love John's work and "Imagine" is arguably the most important pop song ever written. But he beat his wife, cheated on both wives and abandoned his son. He did bad things, yet inspired so many people and was incredibly talented

  • I remember growing up with the Beatles music when I was 5 -15 when my brother would play the LP's and my father would play the 8 tract tapes at the Movies he ran at the drive in. By the time I was older, I asked my brother about the Beatles and he told me that John was the genius of all.

  • min 2:50 "Our nice white WASP (kids) are gonna go crazy with this (rock)"

Parents were right...Look at out country today. Rock = Rebellion = counterculture=drugs= Hippies=Commies=Obama. Nice fu%$in job boomers!

  • Your version is correct also though, the wedding bells certainly did break up the fabulous four. In return it all says the same thing mostly, all you need is love, and in the end thats mainly what happened. Thanks for your time in discussing this with me. You have a great mind and great knoweledge for The Beatles. :)

  • the eyebrows of that guy move like crazy

  • i talk to john lennon and him and i are best buds. he really appreciates all you guys out there and he loves all of you and wishes he could still be with yoko so yoko if youre ever reading this PLEASE come to me and i will tell you more if you'd like cuz john truly misses you he came to you every anniversary and would talk to you he stays with me now except when he has to do something but yeah please if you have any more questions about john lennon please subscribe and comment on my page, THanks

  • @h2ollie aslk john why he doesnt recordd much music anymore. sadly he hasnt done much the music scne today with crappy rap could use his wit maybe him and paul could record together but I know that lennon is a bit of a recluse if you work for him please tell him we need new music! thanks

  • @known12 sadly he is not alive...but i do work for him as a psychic. I talk to him every night. But i will tell him your concern anyway. ^.^ lol its ok its not your fault for not knowing he is not alive. We all wish he was still. ='( may he R.I.P.

  • @h2ollie OMG that is so sad!!please please pleae ask him if he hangs out with paui ringo in heaven and do they make wonderful music up there?

tell them that after they dieed their jusic lives on forever I hear stairway to heaven played on the radio all the time they must be proud nodby writes music that good now! thanks!

  • @known12 ringo is still alive. George is dead though he died of cancer. and yes George and John play beautiful music. Its quite amazing actually. And John said that he appreciates everybody that cares and did care about him. I hope everybody can love John Lennon as much as i do. And known12 take care :D

  • =''''(0000 miss you an george so much...

  • This is great,Thanx!Miss ya John

  • at the beginnng the interviewer is trying his best no to cry... i dont blame him... sad moment in history

  • that interviewer is a prick and knows fuck all!

  • The cult of personality..............

  • john is just not frank saying "the girls mostly went for paul" -

just expresses his jealousy that he did not attract every single of them - typical lennon remark

lennon always judged paul by his face and believed he is simply superficial, i really think he did

  • @MoveOverCasanova Paul took over the band when John was the one who started The Beatles. Believe me I talk to John. And John only quit because of 2 things Yoko and Paul being an ass. Sorry to all the Paul fans

  • @h2ollie

thank you for the compassion, but i guess i will get over this bitter truth

  • @MoveOverCasanova we all have to unfortunately...john said this.

  • @h2ollie

john said much when the day was long ))) i love his music, but i don´t care what he says -- btw, it was paul who ended beatles

  • @MoveOverCasanova you are completely right Paul did end The Beatles definitely but John just quit lol

  • @h2ollie

in reality, paul sued the other three to protect them from an enslaving contract with manager/vampire allen klein, and after all "those wedding bells broke up the old gang" --- but i do not wanna spoil your vision, that lennon is the smartest, the best, the very greatest human being in the whole universe

  • John is so honest about how Paul was the good looking one, no nastiness at all. It just shows the love that was in and around The Beatles, no matter what.

  • 8:12 LOL! I love it! "....are we on or what?"

  • love you john lennon

  • Of course he's superior. What, you don't think it's possible for one human being to be superior than another? I dunno, I've met a lot of shit stains in my life who I'd say Gandhi was superior to. Lennon is one of the most talented artists ever. Not just musicians - ARTISTS, in general. He kicks Picasso's ass.

  • That's the kind of attitude to that fuels the celebrity factory. Mark Chapman was a diehard fan that shared some of your fervent views and look where we are today. Amen

  • those silly haircuts THAT YOU HAVE NOW!

  • Liverpool made Lennon so can someone tell me why he fucked off to the USA, complained a lot about the vietnam war and seemingly never did anything to help regenerate Liverpool in the 70s which had people living in terrible run down areas?

  • i agree with emile235

  • Noooooooooooooo I like John moreeeeeeeeeeeeee jajaja Is true

  • Tom Snyder reminds me of a dog.

  • reminds me of your mom: Give that dog a bone!

  • I like the "imagine" picture at 6:54

  • Strange and sad that peacemakers like Lennon, Martin Luther King, JFK, Bobby Kennedy, Gandhi, Sadat, etc. were all assassinated.

  • @capricious71 he was murdered in cold blood though, he posed a threat to no one. Its a fucking shame that his killer gets to live, even if only in a prison

  • @capricious71 its because they had the guts to stand up to whats wrong and try to do something

  • @capricious71, how were JFK and Bobby Kennedy peace makers? They got America stuck in the Vietnam war. And John Lennon was no saint either. Tired of the myth making...

  • @modifiedcontent

I was talking about how people are perceived. I'm not talking about saints. Lennon was staunchly anti-war and well known for it.

  • @herbal1971, right, such a brave stand to be against war, lay in bed and claim you're a peace maker. What about standing up to oppression, or fighting fascism? All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. And in his private life, where it counts, Lennon was a bit of an asshole, who abandoned his first son and may even have kicked a close friend to an early grave.

  • @modifiedcontent Very good point. The myth making is getting a little out of control.

  • @capricious71 Well, check out Bill Hicks about that :-)

  • @yellowpepper9

I think that's probably where I heard it to be honest. :)

  • @capricious71 "Reagan... wounded" ;-)

  • @capricious71 They didnt get Yoko

  • @capricious71 Yes, I agree that it is strange. The problem is, a simple, but deadly fact - John Lennon's fame was such that it would only take one determined 'whacko' out of the millions of those following him, to end his life.

This is something celebs are more aware of these days and are far better protected. There are always any number of sick, evil bastards ready to cut down the Great and the Good. Since good people don't go around murdering people for fun, evil scumbags seem to live forever

  • @capricious71 dont forget the attempts on Pope John Paul and Reagan.

  • @williwo As if either of them were peaceful men

  • @stfwho WOW.....What a Jackass thing to say....I can see Reagan not exactly being "peaceful"...at least in the purist sense. But PJP?.....He's one of the most loved men thats ever lived. And one of the most PEACEFUL. If you think Lennon was truly peaceful....consider that he beat on his first wife and cut off ties with his son...who himself called Lennon a Hypocrite, ouch. Lennon SPOKE the Peace thing....but PJP lived it.

  • @williwo

Sorry, williwo. John Lennon is certainly more "loved" than any Pope.

  • @grands1am Sorry Grands, hate to disappoint you....But the worldwide popularity that Pope John Paul II had was unprecedented and matched the popularity of John Lennon or any other celebrity of the 20th century. He was seen in person by more people than ANY other person in history. Thats a fact. Look it up. The man WAS LOVED worldwide and adored whether haters like you like it or not. He was the "People's Pope." He had the draw of a Rock Star without being one. Loved and adored the world over.

  • @williwo

So, the amount of people that saw him in person is the measurement you're using? How about we compare the number of Youtube views for videos of either of them? A pope is the head of an enormous and largely evil politico-religious conglomerate with many centuries of accumulated influence. The Beatles were just nobodies from Liverpool. There is no comparison here.

  • @grands1am You're right, no comparison. The Beatles were a Pop/Rock group that PURPOSELY tried to become popular. The Pope was Chosen by the Vatican. He did not want to become Pope nor did he seek popularity. He spent much of his youth and young adulthood hiding for his life from the Nazis and then the Communists in Poland. He was struck by a Nazi vehicle at one point and nearly killed. And Largely Evil Religious conglomerate? An Anti-Catholic bigot I see

  • @williwo

I'm not going to get into a huge debate with you. I am not anti-Catholic in the sense that I have anything against an individual that happens to be Catholic. Nor do I even have anything against Pope John Paul II.

You can continue to turn a blind eye to the actions and positions of the larger institution.

  • @grands1am I'm not turning a blind eye. I realize the Church has made mistakes like ANY OTHER Religion or Belief System. But that doesn't make the entire thing corrupt or Evil. If it weren't for the Church, almost every writing from the B.C. period(including the Greek philosophers) would have been destroyed by Barbarians in the Dark Ages among other things. The Church didn't cause the dark ages. It was probly the ONE institution that guided Western humanity through it.

  • @stfwho BTW, I AM a Lennon fan, and thought he was a terrific songwriter. "Dear Prudence", Across the Universe, Strawberry Fields, and Nowhere Man are favorites of mine. But personality wise?......In terms of peacefulness he doesnt even compare to the likes of PJP and Mother Teresa....not Even Close. He MADE MONEY off it....But did you ever see him walking the streets of Calcutta?...Or travelling to virtually every African Country?...NO...he did a Frickin Bed-In

  • @capricious71 Not all of those guys were peacemakers, Bobby wanted war w/ Cuba, Sadat led the war w/ Israel but they did have a vision later in their lives.....

  • @capricious71 Nothing offends the war machine like the concept of Peace.

  • @capricious71 JFK, peacemaker!?!? Wow, read a book my friend. Rethinking Camelot by Noam Chomsky is a good start

  • @capricious71 ive never noticed that :\

  • @capricious71

you're comparing Lennon to Martin Luther King, JFK, Gandhi??

you Beatles fans are really delusional when it comes to John Lennon

  • @BlueLeopard200 Not really comparing them exactly. All I'm saying is, they stirred things up, were anti-establishment and popular... "They" (those people in the shadows who don't appear on any rich list, though would probably be at the top) wipe these people out.

I'm not particularly a Beatles fan, though I admire their music.

  • @BlueLeopard200

The Beatles pretty much defined the 1960s and transformed popular culture. Lennon's solo work inspired the global peace movement that continues today.

  • @wjfox2006

Lennon was just one of the many musicians, celebrities and others who helped the global peace movement

you can't say that HE was responsible for inspiring the global peace movement

it would still have happened without "imagine"

lots of artists make pro-peace songs and pro-peace statements and continue to do so today

that doesn't mean they are on the level of Gandhi or Martin Luther King

    that's nuts

i'd say he was an excellent musician who promoted peace but leave it there

  • @BlueLeopard200

Oh come on. Lennon did more for the peace movement than anyone else. To call him "just another musician" - now THAT is nuts.

  • @wjfox2006

I didn't call him "just another musician". I think he's one of the best songwriters of our time but you can't compare him to people like Gandhi, Lincoln, Martin Luther King

  • @capricious71 King was not a peace maker, he was a civil rights activist,

JFK was not a peace maker at all, Neither was bobby, Gandhi didnt want peace (entirely) he just didn't want the british up his ass.

So only 2 peacemakers were assassinated.

  • @efiasi If Ghandi just wanted away from Britan, John just wanted to look insane. You can look at everything like an asshole, when you decide to, do it for everything.

  • ".. in those silly hair cuts."

"In those silly hair cuts -- THAT YOU HAVE NOW."

  • @sanfrancisco1967 ahahahahahaha great answer!

  • Man, Snyder was a colossal clueless asshole.

  • Must have felt like one after John was killed too

  • I think he was clueless, but that is a little harsh.

  • LucioCantone - keep necking the lsd you delusional Twat!

  • is it just me, or does the newsperson at the beginning have usually twitchy eyes and eyebrows..?

  • you spell it Marilyn*

  • 2. the matter of the disgusting way of John against Cinthia and Julian (with the intent of that witch of joko) it's a good spy-light to understand A LOT of things EVEN and MORE concerning, for example, Paul (the bad one in the group and in the truth a terrible, terrible person...) ...

  • 1. bigrussthefusss ...I'm very thankfull with you reading things like that... YOU ALL KNOW WHAT? THAT'S ABSOLUTELY THE TRUTH. John Lennon, and more Paul McCartney were not the persons they maybe used tu appear... there's EVILNESS in the history of Beatles so much many people even just can't immagine... Black Magician, Rituals, Secret Deals and Secret Societis, AND MORE AND MORE untill murders and blood...

  • hehe you're funny.

yeah the beatles weren't perfect... sex, drugs, infidelity, fighting, a little bit of brainwashing etc. But black magic? secret societies? murders? pfffffffffftttttttt. ridiculous. they were just a band of bad bad boys, and they aren't anything to do with you anyway so what does it matter? why get worked up? why does it MATTER to you? black magic and stuff happens, we all know that. although most of us think it's crap anyway. the beatles wouldn't have cared what you thought.

  • Alot of people are praising this man, and he was a great musician songwriter. But to say he is god, he has so much heart, is very untrue. IMO he is a very selfish confused man. He blames whiskey and not having birth control pills for Julian Lennon being an accident, when it was his choice to have sex with his wife. Sean Lennon was planned, therfore he was Loved and Cared for. when john and Yoko were strung out on drugs, they forgot their responsibility as parents for johns first child. Terrible!

  • that's true but john did love julian.

  • He was deeply flawed, and knew it. His courage in not covering up his warts (neither in his art nor in how he described himself) is part of why he touched so many lives.

  • i so agree. but i don't think he was blaming just the whiskey and lack of birth control! he knew it was his decision to shag his wife... yeah the drugs fucked him up completely and he treated his son like shit which was inforgivable, especially considering how much he resented his own father for abandoning him... but he was rebuilding a relationship with julian at the end, and i think he was sorry about what he did. he loved julian, but he was a selfish guy. he admitted that himself.

  • John owns this guy. He is so privileged to be asking questions to a true genius....

  • thats kinda stupid......lennon isnt superior to the interviewer...hes just a man

  • @randomtoastlover yes he is.

  • no he isnt

  • @randomtoastlover um yes he is.

  • Woah. Got a bit confused there; the guy talking after John, I thought he was the interviewer - so I figured John would feel pretty put out when the guy he's sitting next to is announcing his death in front of him.

  • regardless of how the beatles became a pollitical influence, its a fact... paul could say we need help in iraq and 10 million 55 year old women from the beatlemania days would storm the middle east!! theyre awesome without even trying haha.. and yes, yoko was pregnant, but she had miscarried twice before, so im sure he wouldnt want to say anything untill they were sure he was gonna make it.. she was about 3 months allong i guess

  • It's hard to believe the Beatles were uninspired and bored for the last couple of years, given the quality of the albums they put out--I never get tired of listening to Abbey Road. Though if you watch the documentary Let It Be, you get a good sense of what John is talking about.

  • I think this guy asks genuine questions. Polite and allowing John some interesting responses.

  • Come on dude, he said beatle songs didn't send out any political messages or messages about social injustice etc, it obviously threw John for a loop and he obviously was tense and slightly p'd off, what about Revolution? What about all you need is Love? So many of their songs make bigger statements than anything that have come before or since IMO

  • I think I agree with you. The idea that the Beatles -- and especially John -- were not political is nonsense. In John's case, if he wasn't political, why did the U.S. government hassle John so much? Tap his phone etc? John was a political force. No doubt at all in anyone's mind of that.

  • john dpesnt appear uncomfortable at all..and the interview is very good.. dont know what you are talking about...

  • You are out of your mind, John is visibly uncomfortable on many of these dumbass questions. Look when he asks him about Beatle songs not sending out any kind of political messages. John would probably rather be a piece of carrot ready to be pureed inside a food blender.

  • Howbout this guy shuts the fuck up, and john talks for a whole 10 minutes...

  • the same silly haircuts that you have now, hahaha, john had such a quick wit

  • walrus

  • what a great interview by tom snyder ... of tom snyder. this asshole never lets his guests speak, answers every question for them, and can't wait two seconds for the guest to relate a story before, guess what, ole' tom himself wants to impart something even more interesting. how this jerkoff ever got on national t.v is a mystery, like the plains of nazca or the pyramids.

  • I don't know-I kind of like his style...he's very direct and doesn't pull punches. Too many times have I see interviews that go like this *ahem* "So...when John died...um, like, did that make you SAD, Paul?" He just acts like an adult on the same level as John, and not like a stupid schoolgirl. But I guess after watching Larry King interview Paul and Ringo, an inbred mule would even seem better XD

  • Great post of lennon and I miss Tom Snyder puffing and laughing with the camera....my fav talk show

  • He looks a little uncomfortable and annoyed when The Beatles are broght up. Thanks 4 posting. I enjoyed it :)

  • "We didn't break up because we weren't friends...We broke up out of boredom, and boredom creates tension." That is a really interesting answer from John. Because I honestly never looked at it that way. I'm going to have to wrap my mind around that one for awhile...

  • What was your original thought regarding the Beatles? Thanx.

  • Well, the reason I believe they broke up is because they weren't young kids any more-they were becoming men. And as they got older, their individualites became more obvious. They realized that they were very different people, and while I think they loved one another in their hearts, they just couldn't sit in the same room together forever.
